Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 110 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by henryd1 on 3/17/2024 & rated 89 points: No signs of premox. Nice colour. I was expecting a lot but overall I was very disappointed. Oak and gunflint dominate. Little fruit left. Powerful acidity but no elegance or softness to the mouthfeel. Not my style of Puligny at all. I like his Volnays a lot more. (420 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/4/2024 & rated 89 points: 2010 Was a Good Vintage in France (Jordan's Place - Chicago IL): Rich with very good depth, but dark color and more fully mature than I would want at this age. (735 views)
Tasted by acyso on 1/14/2024 & rated 90 points: Good, but I honestly expected more from this esteemed bottling. This came off a little sedate and muted, and lacking the concentration and excitement that I have come to expect. It's mildly waxy, with decent richness and acidity, but in general lacks a more expressive flavour profile. This was better the second day, but not by that much. (1284 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 12/24/2023 & rated 94 points: Three and a half years on from my previous bottle of this and this feels a decade younger. Rapier like in its elegance, line and cut. After 48hrs this is starting to be a little less aloof, but still so poised and focussed. Come back in a decade! **(**1/2) (899 views)
Tasted by LB88 on 12/1/2023 & rated 92 points: PNP beautiful fruit driven nose, but still quite closed on the palate. Decided to decant and the wine started to open. While delicious I felt the palate could be more integrated. Not quite as fresh or balanced as the more recent vintages. 92 points not sure if it ll get any better with more cellaring. (928 views)
Tasted by devraj on 6/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Light gold in color. Reserved aromas of yellow citrus confit, almond skin, hint of truffle, wet stone and minerals. Extremely refined and linear in the mouth with savory dried yellow citrus fruit, savory spice and hint of truffle, high acidity and a very long intensely mineral finish. (1327 views)
Tasted by Richard P Howden on 2/4/2023 & rated 93 points: Very classy, rich and opulent. Intense reverberant long finish. Fine to drink now, but decant if possible. (1707 views)
Tasted by weezie on 11/29/2022 & rated 93 points: Similar to prior notes but this time there was just a bit more tension and balance. Really great Mouchere with many great years ahead of it. (1650 views)
Tasted by Geoff7777 on 11/11/2022: Corn/wheat flour tones to the bouquet. A richer, fuller and more classic Mouchère palate with a very faint botrytis influence. A Puligny Grand Cru equivalent on this showing. A great wine 19.5 (1634 views)
Tasted by jmoore431 on 7/14/2022: Tasted blind: Looks like I had this six years ago and wasn’t crazy about the style then (I’m no fan of this producer’s oak, acid, strict and austere type WB). Much like Bonneau du Martray, they’re very slow to evolve, integrate the ample oak (which literally gags me when it hasn’t yet done so) and gain complexity. I score it fairly at 93 for what it is; would I buy it? No thanks. (2349 views)
Tasted by Xavier94 on 7/11/2022 & rated 94 points: Grand Cru authority and concentration with very evident oak signature still. Plenty of flinty/smoked minerals, strong "pain grille" scents with mostly lemon custard-type fruits. There is plenty of Puligny minerality coming through, past the oak on the nose, alone. Long, ripe, but with good energy and freshness through the finish. Cetainly nothing shy about this but this should hold and may even blossom into more, if the oak harmonizes! Loved it. (2018 views)
Tasted by devraj on 6/22/2022 & rated 93 points: Light-medium yellow in color. Initially shy on the nose which over time reveals underripe yellow pit fruits, yellow citrus, lifted herbs, wet stones and nuts. A very linear and focused palate reveals a beam of earthy, savory orchard pit fruits, citrus oils, good acidity and a long stone/mineral laced finish. (1393 views)
Tasted by enthusiastic_amateur on 5/21/2022 & rated 95 points: Perfectly balanced. Intoxicating floral nose of lemon, stone fruit, light oak treatment. Full bodied mid palate. Long delicious finish. In great shape right now. (1425 views)
Tasted by DCHawkeye on 4/15/2022 & rated 93 points: Popped'n poured with the tasting menu at Bresca in DC. There's always some concern with premox and I thought the first wiff to be slightly oxidative. But this shower nicely - great acidity, lovely nose and fruit. (1509 views)
Tasted by weezie on 3/10/2022 & rated 93 points: Consistent with prior notes. Flinty mineral character dominates, with citrus notes. Linear in character, almost (but not quite) chiseled, versus much rounder, full bodied versions of Mouchere I’ve experienced in older vintages. The citrus and flint made this a surprisingly good pairing with oysters tonight, in addition to vichyssoise soup, garlic clams and seafood gnocchi. (1443 views)
Tasted by ducster72 on 12/4/2021 & rated 96 points: With first dungeness of the season. Fabulous wine. Has the color of a 3 year old wine, not an 11 year old one. Lively, fresh and only just the first hints of early maturity. My wife wanted to make sure we had more. We do. :-) (1789 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 4/3/2021 & rated 94 points: Similar to previous notes. Cruising in the cellar, developing well, another fabulous bottle. 94+ (2534 views)
Tasted by Rogershkg on 3/6/2021 & rated 91 points: Fully mature. Good Puligny. Flint dry, with citrus secondary notes. Don't drink too cold (2411 views)
Tasted by Brolawa on 2/27/2021 & rated 92 points: Update 6/29/22: Had another bottle of this and it was much better on palate and finish. I think we had a few bad bottles on 2/27/21. I still don’t think it is otherworldly, but classic and consistent puligny.

From 2/27/21: The nose on this wine was spectacular - just classic Puligny. However, this bottle really died on the palate. It was odd and unsatisfying. Might have been the bottle, but drank as part of Chevalier Zoom dinner and others (with different bottles) agreed. (2180 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 2/18/2021: Pop and pour. Another fabulous bottle. Soaring aromatics accompanied by mineral and citrus on the palate. Excellent density and acidity. In the zone and reverent that the pre-mox gods spared me. (2465 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 1/28/2021 & rated 94 points: The End of the Golden Weather: a pre-COVID-19 Visit to Central Otago in Autumn 2020: Served double blind as a pair with the Jadot. I preferred the Mouchère over the Jadot. Classic Boillot reduction on bouquet and palate. Honeycomb and grapefruit. Well balanced. Sparkling, beautiful acidity. "Tight", noted Rudi. Attractive now, but the vintage could use another 2-3+ years. (2943 views)
Tasted by palbe on 12/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Brilliant light yellow. White fruit, lemon curd, a hint of dried flowers, butter, firmly mineral bacbone. Very fresh, airy, quite detailed, long and graceful. (1831 views)
Tasted by amnon on 11/27/2020 flawed bottle: Drank with LLink. Totally premoxed. (1927 views)
Tasted by llink on 11/24/2020 flawed bottle: Another premoxed 10 Mouchere. So disappointing, worse than the previous bottle. (1891 views)
Tasted by llink on 11/21/2020 flawed bottle: Popped and poured. Deep yellow color. Premoxed nose, sherry elements overwhelmed the meager citrus spice aromas. Flat, watery palate with zero energy or lift. So disappointing. (1865 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
