| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.6 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Moloko on 4/18/2020 & rated 86 points: I have enjoyed drinking these of the last 5 years, however the wine is starting to fade and show its age in a bad way. A bit past its peak now. (644 views) | | Tasted by Moloko on 11/24/2018 & rated 90 points: Great balance, still showing primary fruit. Ripper for the price. Should go another few years at least. Like. (1066 views) | | Tasted by nulla on 3/1/2018 & rated 89 points: Was a little bit tight a year or so ago but has opened up now. Good cool climate cabernet fruit, good body, balanced and nice length but probably a bit short in comparison with the usual heavy hitters. Very enjoyable mid week quaffer with food. 89 (1514 views) | | Tasted by DanCulpitt on 11/10/2016 & rated 89 points: Not showing as much age as I would have thought. Good dark berries, full flavoured, relatively short on the finish (2322 views) | | Tasted by nulla on 5/4/2016 & rated 89 points: Good cabernet fruit (red & dark berries). Good colour and body, nice length, lingering taste, grippy tannins, a touch of licorice in the aftertaste. Good for 5 plus years imo. Good value for the dollars. (2410 views) | | Tasted by Rayden on 12/18/2014 & rated 90 points: My last bottle. Needs time to open up and stabilise. Probably was a bit critical on the last bottle. Strong tannins making a firm dry, lengthy finish. Wouldn't throw out in the wash water! Good drinking right now. (2484 views) | | Tasted by Rayden on 5/25/2014 & rated 88 points: Rich dark colour. Nothing exceptional by nose but solid fruit upfront and long dry finish makes up. A reliable Hilltops vintage (2203 views) | | Tasted by Lijmes on 2/18/2013 & rated 85 points: Deep dark crimson hue, bright nose of dark cherries, lined with strong backbone of vanilla oak. Slight undertones of plum & earth which transitions to peppery notes at medium length upon decanting. Firmly medium body, medium to heavy tannin with slight fruitiness. Savoury on the palate, nicely balanced with a pretty smooth mouthfeel. Long dry finish with a slight vegetal, liquorice aftertaste. Good wine for the price, however not overly impressive. (2598 views) | | Tasted by Avid Wino on 2/17/2013 & rated 91 points: Ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and mulberry, plus herbs and chocolatey oak. Well balanced, tannin structure spot on, and decent persistence. (1681 views) | | Tasted by startinoz on 2/16/2013 & rated 88 points: Rather disappointing given the brand/hype. (1295 views) | | Tasted by deanmillson on 10/16/2012 & rated 85 points: Pretty simple. Blackberry & raspberry nose. One dimensional palate. Simple berry fruit, fairly good acid structure but not really much tannin or structure. Drink now, won't be long lived. (1089 views) | | Tasted by StewartWent on 9/30/2012 & rated 85 points: Not up to the level of the 2009. A bit simple, straightforward and doesn't really speak of purpose or place. Doesn't lack punch for what is a medium bodied wine but the red fruit don't really have any character. Nice powdery tannin to finish. (906 views) |
| Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonAustralia Wine Australia (Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation) | Australian Wines (Wikipedia)New South Walesd we’reSouthern New South WalesI |
