Tasted by TJ Kroehle on 8/17/2022: Great flavor (416 views)
Tasted by TJ Kroehle on 11/25/2021 & rated 85 points: Thanksgivings with the Stevens family
Light fruit with a smooth finish. Great with Turkey (648 views)
Tasted by ersmith on 12/20/2020 & rated 91 points: This has aged very well. (975 views)
Tasted by bg3034 on 10/3/2020: PnP through Nuance wine finer. Reddish brown color. Light cherry, little soda on the nose. On the palate, soft cherry with a little dirt and grit on the palate. Medium finish. Aged well. 88+pts. Aloha! (973 views)
Tasted by Glenn Gilbert on 4/23/2020 flawed bottle: 13.9% alcohol; heavy foil, real cork -- which broke while I was using a screw opener, but with 1 mm of wine penetration or less; long, long legs, medium red/brown; nose with a bad drumbeat in the background, but also telling me that the wine is not completely gone; vinturied and tasted at room temperature, 25 degrees C; has a strong metallic taste in the background, especially affecting the back of the tongue, giving it an undesirable finish; at this point, I'll probably have to say its corked and that I waited too long to taste this 10 year old Pinot: tant pis, schade, the tasting latches on to traces of having been something very much better (1073 views)
Tasted by dachesler on 12/1/2018 & rated 85 points: May be past its prime. Dark ruby color with fast legs. Nose of sour cherries, little bit of minerality. Sour cherries continue on the palate but are muted. Mild tannins there as well. (1138 views)
Tasted by Gen NY on 12/6/2017 & rated 88 points: Pleasant enough. Nice sour cherry, strawberry and cola flavors. Not over the hill but no where to go but down. (1412 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 12/23/2016 & rated 87 points: Muted sour cherry fruit with an earthy all-around taste. Could be past prime. (2262 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 11/16/2016 & rated 88 points: This is a good daily drinker. Reliable but not stellar. (2292 views)
Tasted by jweedin on 4/9/2016 & rated 90 points: Similar to prior note. Drink now (3017 views)
Tasted by jweedin on 1/16/2016 & rated 90 points: This is the third bottle I have had. Very good but may have passed its peak. The fruit has softened so not as flavorful. Would recommend more recent vintages (2892 views)
Tasted by tadams66 on 11/1/2015 & rated 90 points: This is ready but not past its prime. Wonderful fruit with nice complexity. (2816 views)
Tasted by Suede on 6/24/2015 & rated 90 points: members- drink this now. It is still very good but fading, it was even better about two years ago. Very smooth and nice blue fruits, but it doesn't have the structure (acidity, tannins, etc.) to go the distance. Whoever wrote this tastes of strawberry has a very different palate than me- this is not a Oregon or Macon wine. (2495 views)
Tasted by kcsteve on 5/9/2015 & rated 90 points: Cherry and cinnamon. Earthy with a bit of earth and leather. Very nice pinot. (2398 views)
Tasted by Mark Brandon on 4/26/2015 & rated 90 points: Very Good, High Quality. Not special, but solid. (1758 views)
Tasted by whitmanlholt on 11/1/2014 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured. This is a medium ruby wine. It has a nose of cola, cinnamon, and earth. The wine is smooth and well-balanced. This is pleasant and ready to drink now, but not really memorable. 88 points. (2523 views)
Tasted by vinovin on 10/26/2014 & rated 90 points: Big and bold pinot! Gobs of cherry fruit and well integrated ripe tannins. Long finish. Hint of vanilla on finish. New house pinot? (2041 views)
Tasted by MMiazga on 10/19/2014 & rated 90 points: Dark red, dark cherries, earthy Santa Lucia highlands flavor. Seems ready to drink now, it got only a little better after an hour. For a pinot under $30, this was a great value and worth holding a couple years. Paired well with chicken. (1769 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 10/7/2014 & rated 90 points: Good. Full bodied pinot (1821 views)
Tasted by Wink on 8/3/2014 & rated 91 points: Little to add to previous notes. Served at cellar temperature to guests with hors d'oeuvres on the terrace. Everyone loved it. (2275 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 8/3/2014 & rated 90 points: A nose of cherries and spice, medium garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Pinot, with black cherry, blackberry, good acidity and mouth feel, a easy drinker, drink now. www.winelx.com (1429 views)
Tasted by cuffthis on 7/27/2014 & rated 90 points: Consistent with the first few bottles I've tasted, this wine was also dark ruby in color and revealed blackberry, cherry and smoke on the nose. The mouth feel brought dark red fruits and spices. The finish was bright and medium in length.

This was a very enjoyable bottle of wine. At $28US, I wish it cost less so I could enjoy it more often. It paired wonderfully with my GF and my dinner of curried chicken thighs, brown rice and steamed vegetables. (1473 views)
Tasted by cweiner on 7/9/2014 & rated 92 points: Wink's description is dead on. (1517 views)
Tasted by Wink on 5/13/2014 & rated 92 points: Translucent dark garnet. Nose of black cherry, cola, cinnamon, and smoke. Ripe, juicy, spicy palate of darker-than-typical-Morgan Pinot fruit. Superb length. Delicious, focused acidity. Sweet tannins. Silky texture. Beguiling complexity. This wine is finally showing its potential. (1984 views)
Tasted by rhpolk on 3/22/2014 & rated 84 points: 2010 Morgan Pinot Noir Twelve Clones. I've had this wine before (in July 2012?) and I remember it being pretty decent. This one, now anyway, tasted weak and watered down. Some mild cherry flavors, but a severe disappointment. It's not corked. It's just not there. (1764 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
