Tasted by Endodr on 7/3/2016 & rated 88 points: This California blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, and Muscat has a golden yellow color and a nose of white flowers, honeysuckle, pineapple, and citrus. It tastes of ripe green melon, zesty citrus, tart apple, sweet honey and oak. I agree with other tasters that the sweetness of Viognier is very prominent on the nose and palate. The last time I tried this bottle, it tasted overly sweet. This time, it paired better and was a real crowd pleaser. This wine has a creamy mouthfeel with plenty of acidity and a lengthy finish. It is complex, mature and fully integrated. (2080 views)
Tasted by Endodr on 6/12/2016 & rated 88 points: This is the next to last of my 4 bottles and I seemed to like it less this time. It has aromas of apple, pear, pineapple and honey. This blend tastes very fruity with citrus, pineapple, apricot, lychee, and vanilla. It is medium bodied with a moderate finish. Unfortunately, It seemed a little too sweet. Maybe it didn't pair well with teriyaki salmon. (2089 views)

Tasted by bjamesclark on 10/5/2014 & rated 92 points: Drinking fantastically right now.
Aromas and flavors match with poached pear, clove, nutmeg, canned pineapple, lemon zest with touches of white flower, stone fruits, and well integrated oak expressions. Weighted, round and balanced with moderate plus acidity and alcohol. Smooth through the finish that lingers harmoniously on the clove, nutmeg and barrel notes. (3849 views)
Tasted by Endodr on 2/2/2014 & rated 90 points: This blend of 5 California white grapes has a golden yellow color. It's nose is very aromatic with honey, apple, pear, and pineapple; and it tastes of citrus (especially lemon and tangerine), pineapple, apricot, lychee, and vanilla. The wine has a rich, creamy mouthfeel and has a nice moderate finish. It is a little off dry, which makes it very agreeable with many types of food.

This is not the kind of wine that everyone will like, and it is easy to get lost in it's many different flavors. I understand how some may think that it is a bit chaotic, but with this type of blend, you have to focus on the entirety, not the individual parts. I buy a few bottles every year and always get complements when I serve this white wine.

I prefer this blend to "Conundrum", which is probably it's closest competitor (but Mannequin is almost twice the price). (4938 views)
Tasted by St.Alton on 11/2/2013: Awesome (3971 views)
Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 8/8/2013: Huge but balanced white blend. Easy to drink despite the alcohol level. Went great w BBQ (4264 views)
Tasted by KennyandMarcie on 6/17/2013: At first blush, with its panorama of limbless mannequin torsos on the label and description of the contents within as a "California white wine...15.5% abv", this wine appears to be an abomination. Yet this is an Orin Swift wine so pre-judgment is reserved and for good reason. The varietal mix here is a varying combination of Chardonnay, Viognier, Semillon, Muscat, and Marsanne - the Viognier and Muscat theoretically providing the aromatics, the Semillon and Marsanne the body, and maybe the Chardonnay for all the nuances that the disparate parcels from which the fruit was sourced (Napa, Sonoma, Santa Barbara) can express. Who knows, really, and I can't say that everything comes through or serves its purpose, but taken as a whole this wine undoubtedly works. Off-dry and creamy, tree fruit (apple, pear) and honey notes are prominent, with more tropical fruit on the palate and a waxy finish. A big wine this is and it doesn't strive to be anything else, but it remains in balance (although I wouldn't call it crisp) and never becomes a chore to finish as wines of this sort sometimes degenerate into. You may expect a novelty but you will be rewarded with a unique but very worthy white wine. Pick this one up as an analog to an Alsatian white and give it a shot.
It tastes like Apple, and Pear. The body is Medium/Full. The wine finishes Medium. (3514 views)
Tasted by Endodr on 6/16/2013 & rated 88 points: This blend of five white wine grapes has a golden yellow color. It's nose has aromas of citrus and tropical fruit. The wine is very busy with many flavors permeating the palate, including lemon, pineapple, honey, pear, and lots of butter. You kind of have to "go with the flow", and take it all in. There is a lot going on and I tried not to over-analyze it. It is medium bodied and complex. Each drink gives you something new to taste, and it may not always be harmonious (this sometimes makes it interesting). Mannequin may not be for everyone (or me?), but David Phinney certainly knows how to blend varietals and mix things up. I agree with other tasters that it is a bit pricey. (3086 views)
Tasted by Scot Russo on 2/20/2013 & rated 89 points: Great white! Nice blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Muscat, Semillion and Marsanne. Rich gold color full body. I drank it from a coffee cup at work, still rad with finish for days. (2921 views)
Tasted by Mtpisgah on 1/21/2013 & rated 88 points: I liked it and it was much better than the OS Veladora but I am not sure I will buy it again at this price. The Nose was nothing special but the palate was nice, a little buttery. Dave should stick to red wines. (2698 views)
Tasted by klanham on 1/1/2013 & rated 85 points: Drank right after a 2002 Dom. Not sure this is fair but did not taste anything of interest. (2428 views)
Tasted by ERx on 12/23/2012 & rated 91 points: Straw to gold yellow; pineapple & apricot with subtle vanilla undertones- wonderfully full & forward, but smooth. (2446 views)
Tasted by Rich.Herbs on 10/30/2012 & rated 84 points: This wine has all the elements to be excellent or outstanding, but the elements don't combine into a satisfying result. The nose is great, with tropical fruits, lemon and a slight tartness or saltiness. At first the taste is similar, but it progresses to a cacophony as if the different flavors are pulling in their own direction. The resulting finish is ambiguous. I applaud the wine maker for trying something so bold, but it needs some fine tuning and focus. Note: This wine gets an Awkward Bottle award. It is so wide that it does not fit in my cellar, and at 800 grams when empty, one of the heaviest. (2576 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 7/22/2012: Consistent notes. The Muscat element really seems out of place here, adding an unwelcome tension, taste, and ultimately, finish. Highly overpriced. This was just slightly more appealing on the nose than previous bottles, but again, the palate is just a mess; more so when considering the price. (2918 views)
Tasted by j3w on 5/29/2012: Whenever I read 'subtle' to describe a wine I think watery. In the case of Mannequin, however, there is no more apt word and there's not a hint of it being watered down. Mouthfeel is amazing, coats every bit of your tongue with goodness. A little overpriced, IMO at the $35 I paid, but a fantastic wine. Much more accomplished than other recent Orin Swift wines.  Tasted by chuckreece on 5/6/2012 & rated 88 points: A grand experiment that mostly works, this blend of five white grapes is kind of a circus in the mouth. Won't be everyone's fave, but I loved the ride. (3003 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 5/1/2012: Consistent with previous bottle. Good not great; one-dimensional, unsatisfying finish. I'm not a buyer. If this is your style, it's pretty good, but anything over $20 is criminal. I think people will rate it higher based on the fact they paid as much as they did, which happens all too often. Cool label though ;D . (2786 views)
Tasted by NancyJoan on 4/28/2012 & rated 91 points: The wine looks Greenish gold colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Orange, Grapefruit, Peony, Jasmine Leaves, Honey, Biscuity, and Stoniness. (2958 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 4/22/2012 & rated 91 points: Gold color is bright and clear. A high level of viscosity leaves legs very slow to form and slow to fall.
On the nose aromas of fresh pineapple, lemon zest, and honeysuckle with nice touches of salt water taffy. The palate offers the same with beautiful oak expressions, that are pleasantly restrained, but plays its role just loud enough! Additional flavors of pear, salted butter, and lemon chiffon. Long finish with good acidity! A good wine to pair with food

If I would have tasted this blind I never would have guessed it was Orin Swift. Bravo! stylistically different even from Veladora. A great blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Muscat, Semillion and Marsanne (2998 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 4/22/2012: PnP. Light-medium straw color. Aromas of candied stone fruits, dark spice, white floral, saline. Neither complex nor compelling, just a blend. Medium-bodied, insufficient acids, too much heat. Linear fruits, disjointed acids, too much wood influence. Perhaps a year of rest will help this along, but if this bottle is representative, there isn't the structure for ageing more than 2-3 years - at most. Recommended at $15 or less. I liked the label though :D (3012 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
