Drinking Windows and Values
Drinking window: Drink between 2012 and 2024 (based on 9 user opinions)

Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 102 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by R.Ervin on 6/8/2018 & rated 90 points: A little fuller style; tropical: guava, passion fruit, lychee, pineapple (1057 views)
Tasted by juffer on 4/24/2016 & rated 88 points: Has become quite a bit more rounded since I recall from previous tastings. Nose has turned much more toward tropical, with pineapple, coconut and a bit of melon. Mouth is a bit heavy and finish is a bit hot and desperately needs more acidity. Overall, though still enjoyable, has definitely declined and, unless this bottle is an outlier, I would disagree with the community suggested drinking window for this wine. I think it needs to be consumed now, if not two years ago. (2827 views)
Tasted by Winey Old Man on 12/28/2015 & rated 90 points: Well balanced with creamy texture. On the nose I get green apple, pear and a hint of vanilla. Finish fades quickly. All in all a good Cali sav blanc. Enjoyable. (3031 views)
Tasted by ddsolomon2000 on 10/24/2014 & rated 90 points: Still going strong (3967 views)
Tasted by rickspicks on 1/30/2014 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Nose of grass and (surprisingly) some caramel. Citrus, pear and vanilla with some sweetness. Bright acidity with a slightly creamy texture and a medium body. More fruit, richer and riper than a typical Sauvignon Blanc. I am not a big fan of green/grassy/tart Sauvignon Blanc, and this was much more to my liking. (4811 views)
Tasted by Paul_Stagg on 8/24/2013 & rated 93 points: Pale Yellow.

Nose is minerals and tropical fruit.

Citrus, tropical fruit, and minerals. Great acid. depth and richness unusual in a Sauv Blanc, you can tell this has semillon in it. Spent some time in oak. Delicious. (5107 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 6/26/2013 & rated 84 points: Good balance but is thin and disappears on the palate. I bet the winery will blame it on the vintage. (3885 views)
Tasted by Chris Ryan on 6/21/2013 & rated 89 points: Pale green-gold appearance. Ripe melon and a bit of lemon aroma. A bit of sweetness, presumably from the Semillon; slightly less than expected acidity, light-ish body. Tropical fruits, citrus, spice, floral. Medium length; nice finish with a bit more acidity coming through. Really enjoyable. (3736 views)
Tasted by Mylesorchard on 6/4/2013 & rated 92 points: Excellent Sauvignon blanc, fresh, clean, very drinkable. (3311 views)
Tasted by Scottlmatthews on 6/2/2013 & rated 90 points: Elegant and smooth on a sunny afternoon in Seattle. (2293 views)
Tasted by sunalsorises on 5/19/2013 & rated 92 points: A very lovely wine. Great clean finish with plenty of fruit upfront. Goes well with food. Favorite California SB. (1734 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 5/8/2013 & rated 86 points: reasonably tart and citric, this was a solid, if unsuprising, sauv blanc (1515 views)
Tasted by Jason Rzutkiewicz on 1/27/2013: (13.5%) 76% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Semillon - I started excited as I am a big fan of the Sauv/Sem blend but didn't find what I was looking for here. For starters this started off much fuller with tropical fruits leading the way even showing a touch of sweetness. The back end showed some floral and spice which were of more interest but all in all just not my style of wine. It lacks the crispness I desire. (2247 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 1/15/2013 & rated 91 points: Clear, crisp and clean. Apple and pear notes with well balanced acidity that delivers a refreshing finish. Much more than a summer sipper, it will liven up shellfish and sushi. Worth the price. (1971 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 12/6/2012 & rated 88 points: Holiday Tasting at Gibby's (Gibby's Wine Den, Geneva IL): Pale color with aromas of grass, quince, citrus and tart apple. Softened acidity with subtle citrus and grass notes on the palate. Nice, easy finish. 88-89 pts for me, 90 for Domino. (1572 views)
Tasted by Halfeel on 10/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Excellent Napa Valley SB. (2356 views)
Tasted by juffer on 10/21/2012 & rated 90 points: I found this to be better balanced than many Napa Sauvignon blanc's in this price range. Slightly tropical nose, with also some honeydew melon and grapefruit. Excellent acidity on the long finish. Not detecting much grassiness or minerality. (2227 views)
Tasted by Vince92673 on 10/3/2012 & rated 91 points: Yummy! Citrus, pineapple, minerals...it's been hot in southern CA so this is great! (2271 views)
Tasted by BigBoy_Sonoma on 9/30/2012 & rated 86 points: Crisp acidity, citrus, honey, tropical fruit B/B+ (1913 views)
Tasted by Vince92673 on 7/24/2012 & rated 90 points: Very crisp, as a Sauvignon Blanc should be...pineapple, grapefruit & grass, nice fresh aroma. Perfect for a hot summer evening. (2047 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 7/13/2012 & rated 89 points: Pale yellow color. Grapefruit nose. Tastes of melon, lime, and caramel. Rich finish. (2215 views)
Tasted by Vince92673 on 6/14/2012 & rated 88 points: Very nice with crisp citrus, pineapple and mango (1971 views)
Tasted by Vince92673 on 6/14/2012 & rated 89 points: Very nice. Crisp citrus with pineapple and mango in the forefront. (1986 views)
Tasted by AlexHop on 5/18/2012 & rated 91 points: Nose has a touch of grass and toast & honeydew melon. Flavors are nice and balanced without any grass. Both rich and crisp. Beautiful- in the past I haven't been a fan of the Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc but this is maybe the best ever? (1962 views)
Tasted by fdizzy on 4/11/2012 & rated 86 points: Tasted at Duckhorn. Smoother and not as acidic as some sauv. blanc's (1937 views)

Sauvignon Blanc

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
