Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.5 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 45 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jenniaa on 12/2/2020 & rated 89 points: so fresh, like this morning. Maybe the wine wouldn't improve much more, but it seemed very stable. crystal appearance. delicate apple and floral notes, plenty of apple skin and some subtle nuttiness on the nose. asking for oysters, goat cheese and hazelnuts. marvelous with duck rilettes. The bottle emptied too soon. (991 views)
Tasted by jenniaa on 3/11/2018 & rated 88 points: Peaking, will drink another bottle within the year. Blowsy aromatics, but terrific focus on the palate, green apple, terrific acidity and good length. (1622 views)
Tasted by eluebchow on 7/8/2017 & rated 82 points: Not a very compelling bottle; The palate is quite oily and waxy, with a heavily concentrated palate of stone fruit and mineral, but without the acidic lift that can at times make this wine much more approachable (1824 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 5/31/2017: Glad I popped this. A touch of sulfur at first, then wet wool, and loads of lime and some leafy notes. On the palate, the acidity seems a bit less electric than before, and this falls off a little quickly. Still enjoyable, but definitely fading fast. (1862 views)
Tasted by guribh on 9/12/2016 & rated 90 points: Clear pale straw color, floral nose of acacia, white peach and almonds. Classy. (2203 views)
Tasted by guribh on 7/27/2016 & rated 89 points: Beautiful wine. Clear, light color. White peaches and a hint of Magnolia on the nose. Rather full bodies with good length. Bought at close-out and happy I did (around $15/bottle I would buy a couple of cases if I can). Classy. (1881 views)
Tasted by sastewart on 2/22/2016 & rated 89 points: A bit closed at first, better after it warmed up and got some air. Nose of pear, flowers and minerals. Medium bodied but with good acidity, a bit waxy with white fruits and nice minerality. Better on day 2. 89+ points. (1875 views)
(1788 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 7/19/2015: Unilke the previous times I've had this, it took a few days to finish it. I was very pleasantly surprised that this was best on its third day open. Great body, nose and concentration. I think the drink-by dates are way-off. If this bottle is any indication, this could definitely improve with some additional time in bottle. (2003 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 7/4/2015: Drank alongside a Cheverny and a Chablis (village). Fullest-bodied of the bunch. My favorite showing of this wine so far. Notes very similar to before, but no unpleasantness on the finish. (1646 views)
Tasted by Bruce 1er on 6/10/2015 & rated 90 points: Second tasting. Exibits minerality with moderate fruit and a crisp acid structure. Quite good. (1693 views)
Tasted by Bruce 1er on 5/22/2015 & rated 90 points: Bouquet is slightly funky, showing the terroir. The various elements are nicely integrated, with the fruit and minerals more understated. Best only slightly chillled, to allow the flavors to show. (1461 views)
Tasted by Ning on 3/1/2015: preferred the '09, a little bitter of an aftertaste on this one (1487 views)
Tasted by David Paris (dbp) on 2/27/2015 & rated 87 points: E&R's 1st Annual Salon des Vins de La Loire-egon et La Dive Bouteille (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Smells like tar and rubber. Weird. Interesting richness on the palate, with a lovely attack of evolving fruit; melon and cantaloupe, with puckering acid present. Really rich attack on the tart finish, also showing some metallic notes. (2090 views)
Tasted by DSR on 2/23/2015 & rated 87 points: Honey, citrus, white flowers on the nose. Dry, medium+ acidity, medium body, moderate finish, oily texture, moderate complexity. Decent wine. (1451 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 1/27/2015 & rated 89 points: Round and juicy with nice acidity. (1432 views)
Tasted by Billigan on 1/17/2015 & rated 89 points: Lovely, entry-level Savennieres, with plenty of waxy and floral qualities, crunchy minerals, and a nice hint of bitterness on the finish. Took a while to open up, was definitely better closer to room temp than cold, and tasted best with food. (1517 views)
Tasted by qtsam11 on 1/11/2015 & rated 90 points: This goes better with food than on its own. (1405 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 12/7/2014: Last bottle, should buy more. We opened this yesterday, and had a couple of glasses today at just above refrigerator temperature, which seemed just too cold for this wine. The nose and body were disguised. It showed itself (as described in my previous notes) after warming up a bit. Still very nice, this bottle had a bit of sightly unpleasant bitterness, but very consistent otherwise. (1412 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 11/27/2014: Notes similar to last time. Great nose with some citrus notes and loads of minerality. Great body and stoniness on the palate...nice long finish. (1345 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 11/17/2014: Very nice nose with excellent minerality (seashell, chalk, limestone) and citrus/sour apple notes. Nice zippy acidity, and surprisingly full bodied with a hint of creaminess. Nice mineral clip at the end, but a nice clean finish. (1361 views)
Tasted by eluebchow on 11/1/2014 & rated 87 points: Palate is quite full-bodied, with loads of pear, apple and seashell notes, although this needs more acidity to keep it in balance; Enjoyable, but I've had better experiences with other vintages (1473 views)
Tasted by Robert Walters on 10/15/2014 & rated 90 points: - Light gold color and has flavours of orange blossom - Full in the mouth nice thicker texture. Pear and flowers. Mineral finish. Bouquet makes you it would be sweet but finishes pretty dry. (1377 views)
Tasted by JVG on 10/8/2014: WSET Level 3 Class.

Clear, pale lemon. Clean, medium-intensity, youthful nose, with aromas of lemon, smoke, ginger, and stony mineral. Dry on the palate, medium body, medium(+) acid, medium alcohol, medium intensity, and flavors of lemon, smoke, flint, stone, and white pepper. Medium(+) finish. Good, drink now. (1309 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 9/27/2014 & rated 86 points: 4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Rich & Dana's): Aromas of sweet melon, florals, honey and citrus blossom. Flavors of tin, melon and white fruit. Lean. For just a split second, melon notes and Savennières crossed my mind but I dismissed that as quickly as it came up. I thought perhaps our host tossed in a Greek white in light of the upcoming Geja's event. (2075 views)

Savennières

Savennières is a small, relatively well-known Loire Valley region producing wines made from the chenin blanc grape.

They are not conventionally fruity, and benefit from extensive aging.

Savennieres often have smells like white truffles and animal notes, even when young. They can last for a tremendous amount of time, and some people mistake the evolved aromas after 10-20 years with oxidization, but I have yet to taste an oxidised chenin blanc, since the amount and type of acidity (many g/l and tartaric) preserve the fruit in a much more effective way than e.g. chardonnay.
