Community Tasting Notes (average 94 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 218 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Trent Walker on 10/30/2020 & rated 91 points: Such a stark difference with the 2010 Boillot Bienvenues drunk alongside. This is buttery and rich but for my tastes flabby. The over fatty style of californian/australian style. I don't need to describe it because you know what I mean. The California palates loved this. The aging process has made it fat but not oxidized. Points though for lasting 16 years old without going off the cliff! (1527 views)
Tasted by Lockareff on 4/27/2019 & rated 93 points: Nice but on its last legs. Almost Montrachet-like now... (2196 views)
Tasted by jwebtx on 3/18/2019: Viscous. Hot on the front. Sweet on back. (2178 views)
Tasted by andolini on 8/7/2016 & rated 91 points: Enjoyable, but probably past the optimal time for consumption. Some signs of oxidization but acidity, minerality, and lemon/petrol/oak all still present and in good balance. (4723 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 7/10/2015 & rated 92 points: Chardonnay Taste-Off (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Crisp Nose: A-. Palate: B++/A-
My #4, Group's #1 (51 pts). Tasted Blind. (5975 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 3/8/2015 & rated 97 points: RICH FRUIT IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR, MELONS AND EXOTIC FRUITS, NICE ACIDITY AND COMPLEXITY. LONG FINISH. (2957 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 9/24/2014: maybe best aubert since 02 Ritchie. stopped buying aubert 2-3 years ago after being underwhelmed with a number of bottles and price rising. this one shined. really good lift from solid acidity and structure, flavor profile was complex with tons of layers and this wine was long on the finish. surprised this wine was this good after 10 years. (my last few 04 kistlers have seemed past their best) (5528 views)
Tasted by M DU VIN on 9/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Still very, very good, but time to drink up. (5539 views)
Tasted by Fid on 7/15/2014 & rated 93 points: Drank with Chinese food at Hakkasan. Nice lemony, oily texture with good fruit and perfect balance. Got better as it edged up in temperature. Aubert Chardonnay rarely disappoints. (5273 views)
Tasted by M DU VIN on 2/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Nice minerality and acidity. (4581 views)
Tasted by llink on 10/9/2013 & rated 88 points: Dark yellow bordering on light brown. Pineapple mixed with sherry/oxidized notes. The palate is rich but fairly flat. This bottle is very advanced. (4542 views)
Tasted by the_art_of_drink_ing on 6/21/2013: dark straw color. slight petrol notes on the nose. Very rich, viscous wine with a touch of heat/oak on the palate. (3827 views)
Tasted by M DU VIN on 6/17/2013 & rated 94 points: A wonderful, rich Chardonnay that compares favorably to the great white wines from Burgundy. Nice acidity and still has plenty of life in it. (3738 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/17/2013 & rated 94 points: Aromas of mango and papaya with lots of sweet spice. Exotic and enticing aromas and flavors. Great length, density and concentration, while this would never be mistaken for white burgundy, it is a sensational example of great Chardonnay with great balance and textures. (4859 views)
Tasted by pismo45 on 12/21/2012 & rated 92 points: Not much on the nose. Definitely mellowing but still has nice fruit and great balance. Yellow fruits with a hint of lemon. Could go several more years but I kind of think it was more enjoyable a couple years ago. (3965 views)
Tasted by DougLee on 12/15/2012: Barely got a taste. Pineapple. (3507 views)
Tasted by sbbulldog on 11/3/2012 & rated 93 points: Rockin juice. Still there after all these years. Viscous, tropical, and long. I think this is the last of them. Sniff. (3368 views)
Tasted by clayfu on 8/25/2012: note is pretty much the same as when I had it in 2010. Age has not made it any better

With every Aubert I drink, i just get loads and loads of pineapple and other indescribable tropical fruits, this was no exception. But for me, more often than not, Aubert is too big , too round and too oily. It's not flabby but it's certainly fat with noticeable alcohol and oak on it. Some 05's I've had didn't have the alcohol/oak so the fattiness of the wine didn't deter from the wine but this was just too much of that harsh oak on the back end. (3819 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/16/2012 & rated 93 points: Aromas of mango and pineapple with good baking spice. Same fruit on palate, lush and very fat with very powerful concentration. This is just starting to lose its freshness, which is sensational for a 2004, but to me that means the almost 16% alcohol is starting to seem more pronounced. Might have been better in the past few years, but still holding up great. (3274 views)
Tasted by winotoo on 2/11/2012 & rated 93 points: Served with Corvina en papillote. Very similar notes to previous bottle. In no danger of fading. Too bad its my last bottle. (3274 views)
Tasted by cartime on 11/19/2011 & rated 93 points: CT Texas III Offline (Galveston, TX): Absolutely loved this. Like GG, I also got apple pie on the nose along with lemon cream and vanilla. A rich, mouth-filling palate with amazing balance and excellent acidity. I will definitely start buying some of this. (4388 views)
Tasted by ckinv368 on 11/19/2011 & rated 92 points: CT Texas Offline III; 11/18/2011-11/19/2011 (Galveston): Buttery citrus on the nose and on the palate. Grapefruit, lemon, a hint of orange perhaps, pear, and some peach, along with some real zest. Some good acidity on the palate as well coming from the after-effects of the citrus. Well balanced though. Somewhat cloudy. May not have been filtered? Did not affect the taste of the wine. Actually may have helped. (4864 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 11/19/2011 & rated 94 points: CT Texas III; 11/18/2011-11/21/2011 (Galveston, TX): I had high expectations for this and it did not disappoint, Clean nose, of green apples, pears, star fruit, white flowers. On the palate, apple pie, pears, star fruit, fig, peach. Long finish, not as much oak as expected. Great stuff. (4914 views)
Tasted by KenK on 9/2/2011 & rated 96 points: Wine Flock does Great Whites (My House): Ripe sweet, concentrated aromas reminiscent of freshly made apple pie, impressive stoney adds to quality. Screams Aubert even blind and with some age. Sweet dense toasty big wine that maybe at its pinnacle, but who knows? impressive flavors and good length. This thing is Packed and would win over new and old world palates. 96 (5083 views)
Tasted by jbro on 8/21/2011 & rated 96 points: The last bottle, sadly. Served to chardonnay loving friends who could not get enough.Drinking perfectly, consistent with prior notes. Wish I had more. (4170 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
