Tasted by bigdogflow on 6/24/2018 & rated 91 points: Drank from 3 liter. (1315 views)
Tasted by dmcella on 12/29/2013 & rated 88 points: Significant sediment; licorice, black currant, smoke driven; still pronounced fruit on palate; good acidity remains; tannins still medium plus, but better integrated than when young; enjoyable, but likely on downward trajectory. (3021 views)
Tasted by cbbrown3 on 3/2/2010 & rated 89 points: Pop and pour. Deep ruby color. Cassis, cherries, vanilla, blackberries, licorice, and a bit of green herbs on the nose. Medium to full body with ripe, integrated tannins and very good acidity. A bit more subtle on the palate then the nose led me to believe, but still very nice fruit with a bit of spicy oak. Good length on the finish with the spicy oak outlasting the fruit. This is in prime drinking window and should stay there for a couple years. (4737 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 2/11/2010 & rated 91 points: I paid $20 for this. I'm floored by this wine. Cab typicity on the nose with a hint of perfume and wood. On the palate, MUCH richer than the bottle I had 6 months ago. Some cassis, spice and a slight pleasant hint of green. Not a ton of structure, this one seems to be on a fast path. Approachable, smooth - maybe those are characteristics of the '04 vintage, as this reminds me quite a bit of the '04 Keenan, both in style and QPR. Both leave me thinking "I could have a 6 pack of this for the price of 1 cult bottle". (4701 views)
Tasted by cmr on 12/16/2009 & rated 91 points: Excellent qpr that has come around really nice. Currants, herbs .. really nice vegetal flavors and I'm not one to like them but this was just perfectly integrated with excellent structure and balance. (4914 views)
Tasted by Patches on 11/30/2009 & rated 91 points: Could not ask for more for the price. Ripe yet restrained aromas of plum, black currant, olive, oak and pencil shavings. Wonderfully balanced structure with classic cabernet flavors that are already developing. This wine could hold for a while I believe. Worth buying a couple bottles each vintage. (3979 views)
Tasted by kennyg on 11/26/2009 & rated 89 points: Very nice somewhat uncomplicated cab. Interesting contrast to an 94Phelps Insignia, which we enjoyed side-by-side. Remains a very solid QPR (2659 views)
Tasted by NPWolfe on 9/10/2009 & rated 88 points: Three additional signs that the wine recession continues unabated. First, Wine Spectator reviewed a wine cube in the latest issue, don’t think they have ever done that before. Second, I was admitted to the Quilceda Creek mailing list after an absurdly short wait. Third, I received a “special” email offering of a well respected Napa Cab of a recent vintage at half off. Seems like cheaper prices will continue for awhile longer.

Still a nice ruby color, with just a faint hint of purple. While there were some blueberries on the nose I found the herbaceous aromas more prevalent – primarily ripe green olive. Pleasant mouth feel with flavors of cherries, redwood, and herbaceous green olive. Not a big wine, but tannins, acid, and fruit aplenty. A finish longer, fuller, and richer than any $25 cabernet should have. This wine is better than any score I can reasonably assign. (2908 views)
Tasted by sichuanpeppercorn on 7/13/2009 & rated 90 points: Dry, not real big, 4 hour decant, somewhat thin but concentrated. Nice fruit flavors, not jammy, just solid concentrated fruit. (2344 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 7/9/2009 & rated 89 points: Sweet oak and cassis on the nose which carries to the palate joine by cassis and not quite enough fruit. Good QPR, and probably better in 12-24 months. (2274 views)
Tasted by cbbrown3 on 3/10/2009 & rated 90 points: Decanted for an hour. Deep, dark ruby to purple color. Blackberries, cherries, vanilla, licorice, and a nice subtle earthy element on the nose. Medium to full body with persistent ripe tannins and good acidity. Blackberries, cherries, vanilla, and a bit of dried herbs on the palate. Very good length on the finish with spicy blackberries slowly giving way to dried herbs and a little bit of spicy oak. Drinking very nicely now but no hurry on this wine. (2525 views)
Tasted by stoly dog on 2/22/2009 & rated 89 points: Really great Cab for the price. Not sure how much longer this will hold, but I will hold my last for another year or two. (2635 views)
Tasted by crickdog25 on 1/19/2009 & rated 89 points: Excellent cab for the price -- just the right amount of oak and vanilla notes and nice peppery sensation. (2749 views)
Tasted by dnaknc on 10/30/2008 & rated 90 points: I think a year or two would be a little better for this bottle but this was great... Decanting this for an hour and a half or so would be great but we were out to dinner and did not have that available. (2581 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 9/19/2008 & rated 90 points: Tasted blind. A deep bluebery nose. A full-bodied palate with raspberry sticking out and coffee showing up on the finish. Finish was long. This wine did shut down some after a couple of hours. (2646 views)
Tasted by AZ Cat on 9/9/2008: (1) Totally different from last bottle. This one had a very nice nose and finish and was tasty, but not outstanding, on the palate. Perhaps the first was a bad bottle? If they’re all like this then this is an outstanding QPR. (872 views)
Tasted by BordeauxNut on 8/9/2008 & rated 86 points: Saturday Club at Larry's -- August 9, 2008 (Larry's): Simple, yoghurt-y dark berry fruit. Simple, pleasant, a little sweet -- not really deserving a note. Not bad at all -- just not especially interesting either. (3455 views)
Tasted by caplone on 3/2/2008 & rated 87 points: Decanted for about two hours prior to drinking. By this time the the tannins had mellowed leaving a smooth velvety mouth feel. Lots of berries and lasted on the pallate for a good 30-45 seconds. Overall a good value for the price. Would buy more and lay it down a bit longer (3286 views)
Tasted by brucerob on 1/1/2008 & rated 90 points: Perfect CA Cab!!!! Drank at New Year dinner and the next morning I bought another CASE. (3508 views)
Tasted by PDD on 12/24/2007 & rated 88 points: Very nice, lots of fruit, but nothing overly interesting. Good, but at $20 there are lots of better options in CA Cabs (Bennett, Oberon, Thomas Halby) (3513 views)
Tasted by Wegs on 12/10/2007 & rated 85 points: It was a nice bottle. Better once we let it breath a bit.
A little hard on the first sip, but a nice, long finish.
I would buy it again for the price. (3888 views)
Tasted by cbbrown3 on 11/14/2007 & rated 87 points: Deep, dark purple color. Vanilla, blackberries, dried herbs, earthy mushrooms, and a bit of cherry on the nose. Medium to full body with solid, ripe tannins and good acidity. Blackberries, vanilla, dried herbs on the palate with some oak. Good length on the finish with the dried herbs and berries giving way to a bit too much oak. Some additional cellar time will hopefully allow the oak to better integrate, but at this time, it gets in the way. (3651 views)
Tasted by AZ Cat on 11/9/2007: (2) CostCo. Outstanding vintage. Drink now through 2011. Thin and not very interesting. (861 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 10/25/2007 & rated 90 points: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards at the base of Howell Mountain aged in 80% new French oak and 20% old American oak. Dark inky garnet color. Notes of black cherry, blackberry, along with mushrooms, fresh herbs and earth. Flavors of white pepper and dark fruit. An elegant style of Cabernet. (3723 views)
Tasted by whynblog on 9/30/2007 & rated 89 points: Consistent notes from previous bottles. Getting better in the bottle. (3873 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
