Tasted by peolsf on 5/28/2023 & rated 90 points: Decanted this. It’s tawny with medium legs and while it had quite a woody edge on the nose at first, that gave way over a few hours and it really opened up. Still a lot of dark cherry, blueberry, cinnamon, and the finish is decently long. While it’s undoubtedly past its best, I’m really enjoying it. (317 views)
Tasted by paulg936 on 10/5/2018 & rated 92 points: Cellared at proper temp since release. Decanted and aerated before serving. Lovely color and nose. Smooth and medium body. Great in the mouth. Served with roasted duck. Outstanding. (1860 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 10/16/2016 & rated 90 points: This bottle surprised by the amount of structure compared to the impression of the last taster. The gorgeous cherry fruit of its youth has given way to more savoury notes. Nothing sweet yet about this as for instance the Clos des Papes 2001 demonstrates. (2589 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 6/3/2016 & rated 90 points: Tasted during our monthly "diner francophone", tonight's topic: CdP. Expressive nose of strawberry rum pot. The wine is lactic on the palate, quite sweet an palate filling. Good aromatics but I wish for more structure and freshness. (3058 views)
Tasted by AtoZ on 3/22/2016: Yuck. Dried and yet overripe. Tannic. Maybe a bad bottle. Cork stuck / broke. Not a fan. Bottle states 15.5 %. That could be the issue for me. (2856 views)
Tasted by bluefrog on 2/9/2016 & rated 90 points: Some wood, mushrooms, prunes with raspberries in the background on the nose.
Palate shows age but still descent tanins which a bit woody finishing in mixed spices rather than pepper. Medium length (2673 views)
Tasted by Stevey on 9/6/2015 & rated 92 points: Pulled from 13C cellar for about 6hrs and BYO'd to restaurant. Brownish-purple color shows the 14 years age of the wine. On opening, robust fruit aromas, palate of fruit forward black fruits, med-full bod, not terribly complex, good finish. Showed better and gained some weight after about an hour of air in bottle, tannins appear on finish that's perfectly integrated and finish was longer. Very little (practically none) sediment.

Very good wine overall, in mid-to-late drinking window, no need to wait any longer. (2218 views)
Tasted by CHINACAT on 7/10/2015 & rated 91 points: This bottle was a little different from the one I had a month ago. The color was purple, without much cloudiness. Expressive nose. Tasted fresher and had more fruit, a bit less complex, but a smoother finish. A nice CNP that is still in a pretty good place, but I would drink up. (1592 views)
Tasted by CHINACAT on 6/19/2015 & rated 91 points: Purple color and a bit cloudy. Pleasant nose, although a bit restrained. At first it tasted a bit tired and harsh. After about an hour it evolved into a nicely balanced, mature CNP. The wine is still in a good zone, but might be starting to slide from its peak. (1465 views)
Tasted by yaki on 6/5/2015 & rated 90 points: Not decanted. The wine has a pale red/garnet hue in the glass with a slight, noticeable haze. The bouquet is moderately intense, dominated by red cherry and leather. The palate is very traditional in style, showing cassis, red cherry, leather and cigar box. There is a gamey, animal character to the wine. It is definitely showing advanced age and just beginning to come down from peak. Acidity is medium and overall the wine is balanced although a bit hot. Definitely best to drink in the next few years before the alcohol overpowers the rest of the components. I really like the moderately long, classic finish. (1433 views)
Tasted by Vinacull on 10/20/2014 & rated 92 points: P&P to decanter, serve. Color intense cherry red with some dark hues, clear, surprisingly little sediment and no sign of bricking although difficult to tell for sure in moderate restaurant lighting. Beautiful albeit restrained CDP bouquet of kirsh, red and black plums, flowery violet notes, a bit of saddle leather, and licorice. On the palate we have lovely dark sweet cherries, black plums, licorice, herbs and earthy nuances stretching into a long graceful finish of cherries, inner perfume of violets and lavender, black tea and earth. Excellent complexity in both nose and taste shows this as perfectly aged, and a real treat. Acid is still medium and keeps the fruit lively, while the tannins are fully integrated and soft. Outstanding pairing with traditional French preparations of seared duck breast over lentils and roasted lamb loin. I would have scored this a 93 had it not been for the touch of heat in finish. A wine like this reminds you why you buy and lay down CDP from excellent vintages and pedigree. At peak now, drink in the next three years. (1982 views)
Tasted by Too much practice. on 11/2/2013 & rated 88 points: Everyone commented on it, served with lamb. Really very good, very mature. Takes a lot of effort to enjoy Chtnf de Pape - price, age, etc, but this was worthwhile. Delighted everyone else really noticed it. (2466 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 9/18/2013 & rated 90 points: Transformed over three nights. Day one started out light cherry, silky with some creaminess, mineral and slight spice - almost pinot-like. Over the next two days it got progressively darker, with fruits moving to black cherry and slightly stewed. Texture got fuller and brightness faded. Tobacco and spices more pronounced but this was not as pleasant. Overall a very interesting bottle that I think has years left. (2497 views)
Tasted by Rickfell on 1/12/2012 & rated 93 points: Opened up after 1 hour, spice and blackish red fruit, no oak that i could detect, great mouthfeel and very enjoyable overall. Noticed it was 15.5% ABV (3934 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 11/6/2011 & rated 92 points: 15th Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (Chez Lyon in Eugene, OR): Similar to the one tasted 2 days prior. But this bottle was from Hugh and leaned more towards black fruit w/ some add'l iron mineral notes. Some typical CdP spice gave it away as a "non-ringer". Has a few years left. Iodine more obvious on day 2: 92 pts. (4931 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 11/4/2011 & rated 92 points: We liked this a lot for the price and pedigree. Medium garnet color, it has all the usual CdP spice, anise, saddle, underbrush notes along with red > black fruit. The texture is plush almost opulent. Balance is great; this is on plateau, but certainly no risk of dying soon. A great preview to an upcoming 2001 CdP tasting! (3696 views)
Tasted by charbo on 6/2/2010: wonderful. silky, pure and semless. cheryy fruit with tobacco and spice. Lenthy finish (3870 views)
Tasted by Bradford on 1/10/2010 & rated 91 points: Surprisingly tight. Started to come around after two hours in the decanter. Needs 5-6 years. Medicinal cherry, licorice, cassis nose. Beautiful, clean, silky structure. Meaty, with dark, dark berries and black licorice coating the mid-palate (No oak in sight!). Developed sticky brown sugar component after 2.5 hours. Medium finish. This will certainly gain complexity. (3833 views)
 Tasted by d'Artagnan on 11/27/2009 & rated 89 points: Lunch O'Thym. Offrande d'Olivier.
Tasted by WetRock on 8/12/2009: Some reduction on the nose smelling like this was Syrah heavy. Darkly fruited on the palate again reminiscent of Syrah or maybe some heavy Mouvedre with some animale characters. The spice characters spoke of CdP to me. This would need more time for my palate or plenty of air. Wish I had another bottle to let sleep. Very good. (3482 views)
Tasted by ras2006 on 7/26/2009 & rated 89 points: cork broke into pieces as I opened it, but the wine was very nice (3721 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/7/2009 & rated 92 points: nose: really good and intriguing dark profile with roasted meats, black fruits, garrigue, dark red cherries and berry tones. There is an understated nature to the nose as well that draws you in

taste: excellent medium feel with tasty tones of black licorice and meaty tones upfront that then move well into balanced tones of garrigue, anise, black fruits, and slight hints of perfumes emerge as the wine opens up more

overall: just starting to drink. Good complexity and depth with a very intriguing understated style that is cool and laid back. A slight bit of ligher color at the rim and nice concentration towards the middle, this should be a fun wine to track over the next 10-15 years (3686 views)
Tasted by cseanb1 on 12/7/2008: Decanted 1hour and consumed over 3 hour period. Everything you want CdP to be. Still plenty of lfe here and should age quite beautifully. (3907 views)
Tasted by Li6 on 11/9/2008 & rated 92 points: Beautiful nose of plums, cherries, and garrigue, especially lavender, with caressing tannins, pure fruit, and a medium-length finish that adds a bit of lead pencil shavings. (3939 views)
Tasted by foodandwineblog on 5/28/2008 & rated 93 points: Great aroma’s of violet, cherry, and soiled mixed with sweet berries and tobacco. On the palate the wine is very elegant with flavors of sour cherry, subtle black tea component, and fresh soil. Tannins are soft and well matched with the acidity, cherry and earth reappear on the 30-45 second finish. Very nice wine. foodandwineblog.com (4068 views)

AOC Red Châteauneuf du Pape
Cuvée Hautes Brusquières

Grape varieties :
This cuvee is made up of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%)
The vines are between 30 to 50 years old.
Situation and soil type :
All the grapes come from the Brusquières plateau, in the north of Châteauneuf du Pape, where we can find the famous round pebbles and a clayey subsoil
Vats :
Wood and stainless steel with temperature control

Vatting :
Since 2000, we have decided to destem and to crush all grapes
Vatting lasts 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the vintage at a temperature between 25 and 30°C
A release or a punching of the cap is done every 2 days and pumping over every day.
The malolactic fermentation happens in barrels and vats.
Ageing :
Ageing continues in barrels and big oak tanks during 12 – 18 months depending on the vintage.
Tasting :
This is an atypical cuvee in terms of its complexity of aromas: deep spice, black fruit flavors and chocolate notes are overlaid with leather and a wild complexity.
This complex nectar needs a long cellaring to 15 years from vintage.
Further information:
The cuvee bottled without filtration is stocked in our warehouse air-conditioned at 16°C.

2001 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix

Blend: 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
