Community Tasting Notes (average 95.3 pts. and median of 96 pts. in 614 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by dream on 3/12/2024 & rated 95 points: Excellent bottle of this showing a fully mature flavor profile but with plenty of richness and acidity in the style of the vintage. Really complex and satisfying on the finish with notes of clove spice, caramel and minerals. Plenty of vigor and plenty of life left in this gorgeous vintage of Krug. (1207 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/2/2024 & rated 93 points: Some nice Burgundies (Chicago, IL): Been quite a long while since I had this last. For my palate, this is starting to get long in the tooth. The old-school Krug weight is here for sure, but there are lots of browning notes to the fruit here. Plenty of acidity to cut the richness on the palate, but also a bit of nuttiness from the age. (1561 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 2/29/2024 & rated 97 points: blind
nailed it. Far away from his peak but nice drinking window. All Krug elements you neeed. Power, freshness and great concentration. 97-98 (1247 views)
Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 2/22/2024: Opened and served over next 2 hours. Gold colour. Minuscule bubbles. Nose of oyster shell, honey and a hint of curry powder. Uniquely silky palate. Rich, elegant and precise. Creamy. Simply perfect. I could bathe in this. (1390 views)
Tasted by etyc on 1/26/2024: Very good. Liked it very much. Detail notes may yet follow... (1163 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/19/2024 & rated 96 points: not blind
Stunning again, still on the fresh side. Some nuts and still lemon notes. 96 (1682 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 12/17/2023 flawed bottle: blind
For me defective, no rating, (1757 views)
Tasted by Bigtuna on 12/4/2023 & rated 95 points: Beautiful aged Champagne - gold color, good energy, fresh (1746 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 11/28/2023 & rated 95 points: blind
I guessed Krug 3rd label from Magnum. It was more complex than a "regular" Millesime and less acidity than a 1996 Krug but I was wrong. Still an amzing champagne. 2 decades ahead. 95 (2171 views)
Tasted by Throughthegrapevine on 11/11/2023 & rated 94 points: Holding beautifully at 27 (1849 views)
Tasted by RobinTeo on 11/3/2023 & rated 93 points: Pardon the brevity, I don't drink enough champagne!

Single blind but bottles pulled at random.

Apple soda, chinese pears and popcorn dominate the bouquet. This had much more development on this and I felt this was in a good place today. (49 views)
Tasted by palfr2 on 11/3/2023: Liz's B-Day Dinner at Singapore Swimming Club - Krug Vintage Vertical (Singapore Swimming Club): Krug Vintage vertical spanning Collection 1988/1996/1998/2000/2002/2003/2004/2006. Blind tasting. This came up second on the night. Deep gold colour. Honeyed notes. Wax, curry and zaffron. Pleasant oxidative notes on the nose. Together with the 1998 and 1988 Collection this showed some proper evolution while all post 1998 vintages (with exception of 2003 likely on a faster aging curve) were still infants and not yet breaking from 'general' Krug taste, i.e. one I associate with primary Krug NVs. Can drink now, no need to wait (1924 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 10/29/2023 & rated 96 points: Ojai Food + Wine Festival; 10/26/2023-10/29/2023 (Ojai Valley Inn): Could definitely tell the age on this bottle. Color was a dark honey/caramel with oxidized flavors to match and effervescence has diminished. Still a lovely bottle. I wouldn't call it over the hill like some have said, but I certainly wouldn't guess it will get better with more age. (1794 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 9/13/2023 & rated 88 points: this bottle was off, not as fresh as usual and not as many bubbles (2258 views)
Tasted by daved on 9/2/2023 & rated 94 points: Exquisite and well rounded, the effervescence has diminished somewhat but the flavor profile was extraordinary. I would say it's a touch past peak, imo. (2018 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 8/13/2023 & rated 96 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a light gold center with moderate effervescence. The moderate intensity nose generated citrus, egg cream, white stone, and some brioche notes.

In the mouth, this wine was rich but with a powerful citrus tang that made it very long. There was no hint of oakiness, oxidation, or excess lees, that sometimes appear in Krug wines.

While this will last for a while, I would be looking for excuses to pop the cork on these bottles. Impressive! (2146 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 8/6/2023 & rated 97 points: not blind
So fresh, the acidity is mindblowing. Some roasted almonds, red berries Unbelievable elegant. 20 years ahead. 97 (2520 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 8/3/2023 & rated 94 points: Hasn't budged an inch since our prior bottle at the end of '15...and that's all to the good. Love that apple/flint profile. (2267 views)
Tasted by essenceofreal on 7/28/2023: Followed over 2 hrs. A kaleidoscope of flavors. Morphed into an acid bomb in a good way which only Krug can do, perhaps some Henri Giraud a close second.

Still had heaps of life and bubbles. However, I get the feeling this bottle was on the back side of peak and I should not wait long to consume my remaining bottles. Had nice mousse at first opening. This then transitioned into great yeastie orange lemon zesty yummines. Yeast then dissipated to leave simply a blast of super tart lemon orange zing. Was this a sign its past its prime? Hard to say. Even more hard to assign a score, think I'll have to drink a few more bottles to determine!!!! Regardless, I loved this bottle and Krug! ))

This was like liquid steel! (1900 views)
Tasted by Vas19 on 6/9/2023 & rated 94 points: From mag. Rich and complex, with a streak of lemony acid to keep it fresh. Very good. (2512 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 5/26/2023 & rated 96 points: Golden hue and some development, but good acidity overlay. (2379 views)
Tasted by The Guzz on 5/2/2023 & rated 96 points: Purchased and held since release and this was stunning tonight. Massive sweet orchard fruit. Almost overwhelming in size and ripeness but the acid on this wine is piercing (in a good way) keeping it all together. The density and length of this is off the charts and it never feels heavy despite how much is packed in. Really hard to imagine a better example in this style. (2679 views)
Tasted by jhngo on 5/2/2023 & rated 92 points: didn't show well when drank along side the ambonnay!!! (2668 views)
Tasted by Eric on 4/15/2023: ESTG does Champagne (West Seattle, WA, USA): Yeasty, mature, quite soft and silky, especially in contrast to the NV 164 next to it. (3142 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 2/25/2023 & rated 94 points: Yvelin's farewell: Fairly tight at first, wasn’t showing much with a worrying golden colour. Fortunately it came around after a couple of hours, old-school Krug with expressive ripe orchard fruit, but not as imposing as I would’ve expected from a wine of such pedigree. Rich but insufficient tension / interest. (3479 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
