A perfect match, needless to say. This was very nice, and in perfect condition, though not my favorite rendition of a Kistler chard with some age. Tending toward a New World profile. Still quite bright. Lemony. When Kistler is at its best IMHO I am transported to Meursault. Maybe too young? Amazingly, my friend guessed Kistler "mid-aughts", and he was only slightly off with "McCrea Vyd". (2224 views) | | Tasted by KenK on 11/23/2018 & rated 89 points: Nice and quite drinkable. Yet muted flavors, a bit past prime. (2739 views) | | Tasted by jsebiri on 5/9/2017: excellent wine (4236 views) | | Tasted by essconsults on 4/16/2017 & rated 95 points: Sorry for the delayed note. I can't remember the flavor specifics, but it was an exceptional bottle of wine. We were drinking it with a rich, spicy Italian meal, yet it worked perfectly. As the evening went on and as the wine opened and came close to room temperature it got more and more complex and perfumed. Sensational. (4075 views) | | Tasted by Caveman999 on 3/31/2017 & rated 91 points: Smooth and good (4294 views) | | Tasted by CRUSHER on 8/7/2016 & rated 97 points: tasted in blind tasting with 3 other high end whites. it won best in show. loved it. tropical fruit, butterscotch notes, great balance (1758 views) | | Tasted by Dave77 on 7/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Beautifull aged chardonnay, buttery, full bodied, tropical fruit on the pallet. Lacks a bit of fruit in the nose but I guess that's the age of this stuff. Nice effort, rather hard to find in Belgium. If you have any of this, drink up will not get beter (3876 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 10/20/2015 & rated 92 points: Similar to the last 2 bottles except no longer in peak drinking period. Still delicious but fruit is starting to fade. (4659 views) | | Tasted by M DU VIN on 11/27/2014 & rated 92 points: A beautiful, aged California chardonnay. Drinking wonderfully, but it mistime to drink up. (4282 views) | | Tasted by mclanew on 11/18/2014 & rated 95 points: This was the best bottle of this wine I have had of this in a while. A couple of the recent bottles were over the hill or had lost some of their verve but this one was like a stunning old corton Charlemagne. Great mineral definition with fruit flavors of tangerine, nectarines and flowers. Very fully bodied and long finish. (3926 views) | | Tasted by Peech on 8/18/2014 & rated 91 points: Very ripe on the nose with some lemon citrus, and good amount of oak. Ripe and sweet on the palate. (483 views) | | Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 5/20/2014 & rated 93 points: See prior note from 2011 (4643 views) | | Tasted by Peech on 4/15/2014 & rated 92 points: big, ripe nose of toasty corn. Sweet and buttery. (490 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 3/29/2014 & rated 93 points: Same as the 7/13/13 bottle. (3919 views) | | Tasted by mclanew on 1/3/2014: Another bottle over the hill. Drinkable but shades of former glory. (3560 views) | | Tasted by mwanasheria on 12/25/2013 & rated 94 points: Spices, anise seeds, chalky minerality. Crystal clear fruit and acidity. Really nice. (2896 views) | | Tasted by mclanew on 12/25/2013: Bottle at end of its rope with hints of oxidation (2738 views) | | Tasted by Peech on 12/24/2013 & rated 91 points: very ripe on both the nose and the palate, toasty, marmalade, and a little buttery on the finish. (491 views) | | Tasted by Richard M on 12/21/2013 flawed bottle: Unfortunately oxidized. (2208 views) | | Tasted by hsacks on 7/13/2013 & rated 93 points: Very similar to the 8/14/11 bottle except in peak drinking period. (3214 views) | | Tasted by eudora on 7/4/2013 & rated 96 points: Superb - exemplifies the heights that a mature Kistler can reach. We enjoyed it before dinner with a variety of rich appetizers - deviled eggs, salmon, olives. I would not want to drink this wine with dinner, because it overwhelmed all food and demanded sole attention. (2922 views) | | Tasted by NY Wino on 6/29/2013 & rated 95 points: Surprisingly fresh and delicious. Golden color but not over the hill at all. Excellent fruit, good acidity and long finish. (2904 views) | | Tasted by NY Wino on 3/17/2013 & rated 94 points: Deep golden hue, bouquet of tropical fruit and stone. The wine opened up beautifully over the 2 hours it was drunk. It showed excellent fruit at first, then a nice slate/stone flavor and the finish was initially full of almond and then smoothed out and took on some salty caramel flavors. It is certainly at peak and not going to get better...drink up now. (3232 views) | | Tasted by uffedaniel on 1/15/2013 & rated 93 points: Nose was not as big as expectet, sesame seeds, butter, honey melon and toasted oak, the pallet still had good acidity, melon, peach and a long smooth finish. Drink now for sure! (3703 views) | | Tasted by Melli on 1/6/2013 & rated 91 points: Came up short, 3-5, in Chardonnay tasting vs Xavier Monnot Puligny Montrachet Folatieres. | Kistler Producer website2005 Kistler Chardonnay Kistler VineyardMARK BIXLER NOTES FROM MAILER: Pale yellow. Compelling aromas of ripe stonefruits, flint, and acacia flower. Extraordinarily dense and tactile on the palate, with great clarity and energy to the flavors of white peach, honeysuckle, and wet stone. The strong minerally acidity gives the wine’s fruit a distinctively firm edge. A wonderfully intense and precise wine. Delicious now.Chardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma ValleySonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.
Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries. |
