Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 66 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Herb K on 9/10/2021: Pleasant but not generous on either the nose or the palette. Somewhat restrained and lean in the “Vincent Girardin” style. Glad I only have 1 bottle left. (1431 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/9/2020: Henri Boillot Clos de la Mouchère Vertical with Bonus Bottles (My home - Chicago IL): Drinkable, but clearly long in the tooth. (2690 views)
Tasted by winequant on 8/27/2020 flawed bottle: CORKED (1637 views)
Tasted by Herb K on 12/14/2019: Drinking beautifully. Fully mature with pineapple and apple notes. Drink up. Not sure how long it will hold. (1837 views)
Tasted by xwine on 4/27/2019: A gorgeous premier cru, and I imagine it can go on for many years. Fresh white flowers and well delineated orchard fruit (like white nectarines?), excellent cut, persistent finish. First rate. (2066 views)
Tasted by sanjay2 on 2/15/2019 & rated 93 points: Wow! Acacia flowers, hazelnuts on the nose. Long length and beautifully balanced acidity. Wish I had more! (1198 views)
Tasted by grossie on 11/22/2018: oxidized (1078 views)
Tasted by ccn on 6/1/2018 & rated 93 points: Spectacular. Probably the best white burgundy I've had in the last year, this wine is at the absolute peak of its maturity. A strongly terroir-driven wine with focused minerality, stone fruit, richness without being phenolic or oaky. Wish I had more! (1650 views)
Tasted by Cheval of PR on 3/24/2018 flawed bottle: Oxidised (1443 views)
Tasted by markydb on 6/27/2017 & rated 92 points: Another 2004 Clos de la Mouchere...another example of great long lasting white Burgundy from Chez Boillot. Fresh, chewy, broad and just plain delicious. Plenty of life left. Cheers (2013 views)
Tasted by BradE on 1/27/2017: Very tasty. Very. (2326 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/24/2016 & rated 93 points: Wine Lunch Before Christmas (Happ Inn - Northfield IL): Floral with peach and ripe apple. Excellent concentration. This has been a perplexing and frustrating wine over time, with so many oxidized bottles, but not today's beauty. (2820 views)
Tasted by Herb K on 6/7/2016: Definitely could taste some maturity, but still lively and very enjoyable. (2399 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/12/2016 flawed bottle: Corked. (2449 views)
Tasted by xwine on 3/4/2016: Last had a bottle of this about four years ago (which was beautiful), and with a number of reports of premox I thought I should open another bottle. No worries here, as this is drinking very young and seems like it could go on for many years. While the previous bottle was decanted, I decided to simply pop and pour this one. Gorgeous nose of fresh flowers and yellow fruit. Lively palate, yet has a smooth, easy drinking texture, with zippy fresh fruit. It then seemed to shut down for a short while before opening up again to its initial gorgeous state. I'll add to this note on day #2. Not much to add, other than it's holding up just fine. (1662 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 1/24/2016 flawed bottle: Another 375 past its drinking window. 750s have been much better. (2018 views)
Tasted by BurgAndy on 1/3/2016 flawed bottle: Sadly premoxed. Last bottle. (1557 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/26/2015: From 375 ml bottle that I kept too long. Still enjoyable enough, but advanced for the vintage and not nearly at the level of pleasure when younger. But I've also had oxidation issues with this wine in 750 ml format. (1782 views)
Tasted by AtoZ on 8/9/2015: Nice. Ready. More loose than the 2007 Perrieres from Carillon but still a great wine. (1471 views)
Tasted by AtoZ on 8/2/2015 flawed bottle: Corked ! (1478 views)
Tasted by markydb on 6/2/2015 & rated 94 points: What beautiful juice! Youthful, vigorous and long. Great balance between fruit and minerality, wonderful mouth feel, rich, but not cloying. Many would ID it as Montrachet, and they would not be wrong. I hope it remains a hidden treasure forever as it has gobs of life left. (1499 views)
Tasted by BurgAndy on 5/17/2015: Light yellow in the glass. Flinty yellow fruit aromas on the nose followed by seamless flavors of matchstick, mineral, white stone fruit, and yellow apple on the palate. Youthful with exceptional balance. Lingering finish. This put on some weight after an hour or two. This is very Puligny, if not Grand Cru-esque. Tremendous juice. Clearly a pristine bottle. First of two bottles purchased - for my taste, this is at its apogee but I imagine it will hold for a bit. (1537 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/30/2015 & rated 88 points: From 375 ml bottle. Clearly mature and not showing at the same level from 5 years ago, but still showing good concentration of mature fruit that we can still enjoy. Didn't drop off further for the full hour open. (1730 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/3/2015 flawed bottle: Very oxidized. (1597 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 12/9/2014 & rated 93 points: Really enjoyed this wine. Citrus, mineral notes. Very good acidity and depth, with nice finish. (1749 views)

Burgundy-Report (7/1/2006)
(Boillot Jean Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère) Medium lemon-yellow. A nose of baked bread and higher, more diffuse tones. The palate has lovely smooth acidity and a depth of soft but concentrated high-toned fruit. There's just a quick flash of something that shouts 'Puligny' in the mid palate, followed by a long savoury, slightly spicy - perhaps ginger - finish. As usual this is an excellent wine and it's certainly a 'buy', but to drink today I'd put Amoit's 'Vergers' a little ahead based on its fresh citrussy purity and joie-de-vivre.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
