Tasted by RyanWu on 1/14/2022 & rated 90 points: Pnp. Mine was perfect. Nothing odd was found in here. The wine was pure and straight forward. It’s a great wine to share with newcomers in wine. The bright sides of wine can be seen easily. (1561 views)
Tasted by JCaress on 5/15/2021 & rated 90 points: Past its prime, but still tasty. Saving a bit for sampling today. (1903 views)
Tasted by tanglenet on 2/26/2021 flawed bottle: A horse jumped out of the bottle on opening the brett was so strong. Decanted for about 15 minutes but it went from watery to undrinkable pretty quick. (2110 views)
Tasted by JCaress on 12/27/2020 & rated 95 points: The best Merlot I have had in 2020. Fruit was well integrated and drinking flawlessly. Only got better throughout the evening. One more bottle left of this excellent vintage. (2151 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 3/29/2020 & rated 93 points: I don't understand the negative posts here...This is a California Merlot folks! Not a French Merlot from St. Emilion. For what it is, this is spot on winemaking, embodied
by its richness and noticeable oak influence. Its also note worthy to say that in 2006 heavy extraction was in style and it continues today in Napa for many big producers and cult wines. Yet this wine was not over extracted and reminded me a bit of a fleshy old world wines as it warmed up and started flaunting a bit of terroir of its own in the form of dark soil tones.

Maybe its because my bottle was a Magnum from my cold cellar, but it was just delicious. At perfect maturity, yet in no danger of near future fading. The wine was rich and had noticeable levels of oak, but the harmony between the fruit, soft tannin, and oak made things balanced and very nice drinking. Great length....As I was getting down to the last part of the magnum I was thinking...This wine will blow the mind of California Merlot drinkers and open the minds of French Bordeaux drinkers....This is the longest note I've written in a while. I felt the wine deserved a different point of view. Drink (3145 views)
Tasted by Lipsman on 11/23/2017 & rated 85 points: Portlike, heavy California merlot. Plenty of alcohol in the taste, cherry and gobs of jammy berries bury the merlot. Tastes like any other heavy handed red wine, pretty much a well made and balanced Zinfandel. (3523 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 11/14/2017 & rated 70 points: Served side-by-side with a 2006 Beau Sejour Becot which was clearly WOTN.
This Paloma was not what I had enjoyed with previous bottles of the 2001 and the 2007. This bottle was very disappointing - think stewed dark fruit. Did it suffer from a period of heat at some point? Possibly. (3102 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 9/17/2017 & rated 88 points: My last and caught just about in time.
The core of vey ripe blackcurrant/dark berry fruit is taking on a jammy brûlée character and getting somewhat out of balance as the liquorice, spice and acidity has started to fade and the deadening truffle element starts to come to the fore. Almost sweet feel as the grippy elements dissipate with age.
Still good but well off its excellent best and for drinking up yesterday. (3254 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 7/24/2017 & rated 91 points: Much as my two recent notes. Fully mature and for drinking over the next twelve months.
One more to go. (3405 views)
Tasted by briquette on 3/13/2017 & rated 90 points: Still drinking well. (3771 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 10/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Lovely notes of black cherry, red plum and dark chocolate. Very well balanced with clean finish. (2514 views)
Tasted by kcp on 10/18/2016 & rated 92 points: A lovely Paloma Merlot this time around. Balanced, well fruited, a pleasure. (2427 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 10/16/2016 & rated 91 points: Whilst essentially as earlier notes, just starting to show its age with truffly hints (that I like) coming into the mix. Still enough grip but see no point in holding for more than a couple of years max.
Excellent but for drinking up.

Looking forward to a couple of weeks+ break from next Wednesday in FLA for a friend's son's wedding (Ft Lauderdale) then touring: (The Keys, Everglades, Orlando - NOT Disney!, Cape Canaveral) and, in a wonderful coincidence, watching No.2 daughter playing polo at The Villages.
Restaurants being booked online! (2174 views)
Tasted by winejnky on 9/25/2016 & rated 90 points: Inky purple black, intense blackberry fruit, with oak and vanilla, strong backbone and somewhat over the top alcohol showing through. Would score higher if fully balanced but this is not quite fully qnit together and has a few harsh edges. (2058 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 9/17/2016 & rated 92 points: CHERRIES, BLACK RASPBERRIES, CURRANTS, AND HINTS OF LICORICE AND CHOCOLATE IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH. (1550 views)
Tasted by kcp on 9/6/2016: This bottle was flawed, unfortunately. (1487 views)

Tasted by Paytondogger on 4/15/2016 & rated 93 points: Wonderful black cherry nose. Great currant backbone and flavors if black cherry and mocha that explode . Long 30 second finish of cherry fruits that coat the mouth . Wow. (1985 views)
Tasted by Tpety on 4/15/2016 & rated 88 points: Drank in honor of Barbara's passing. Some tannins remain, mostly dark purple fruit of plum and spice. Certainly ready to drink, but in no way going over the hill. Very good to excellent. 88 (2119 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 4/11/2016 & rated 92 points: WIML92

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of berries, plums and flowers. Flavors of berries, plums and cassis. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold. (2155 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 4/6/2016 & rated 92 points: Inspite of an unintended 4+hr decant due to a late return of hers indoors and eldest daughter from competing in the National Dressage Championships at Hartpury this held up very well to the high standard of my noted bottles. A slightly more velvety feel was perhaps the only addition to my earlier observations.
Drinking beautifully now and for at least another couple of years with this structure. (1508 views)
Tasted by winejnky on 3/20/2016: Tainted bottle; VERY DISAPPOINTING! (1485 views)
Tasted by NapaInBaltimore on 12/18/2015 & rated 94 points: a truly outstanding Napa merlot! (1870 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 11/15/2015 & rated 92 points: Continues to impress as per my January '15 note. In a perfect place.

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
