(574 views) | | Tasted by jmcafee on 5/27/2014: Very fruit forward, a bit over ripe, but enjoyable nonetheless. Nothing to be gained by further cellaring. (2033 views) | | Tasted by tc from santee on 6/16/2013 & rated 80 points: This Zin. has past it peak and is heading in the wrong direction. A diminished fruit short finish and a brooding uncomfortable mouth feel. (2588 views) | | Tasted by jmcafee on 5/21/2013: Ugh. Way to heady from the get-go. A bit of an off and distracting taste with an ugly oak-like hint, I wonder if it was a bad bottle. This was unlike the previous consumed. (2620 views) | | Tasted by circadumonde on 5/19/2013 & rated 75 points: super sweet and cloying (2841 views) | | Tasted by JuliannaD on 12/29/2012 & rated 89 points: Classic Paso zin. Blackberry nose with rich dark fruits on the palate. Smooth, integrated tannins, smooth finish. (2651 views) | | Tasted by EvanJB on 3/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nice wine. Smooth, not overpowering (2246 views) | | Tasted by TSTEW22 on 1/22/2012 & rated 90 points: Spectacular wine. I'm going on a quest to grab more of this vintage for sure! (1772 views) | | Tasted by ddsolomon2000 on 3/1/2011 & rated 91 points: Let breathe 30-45 mins. It opens nicely. Well constructed, full flavored dark rich ftuit. (2661 views) | | Tasted by Kkravche on 1/2/2011 & rated 89 points: Smooth, fruity, hints of sweetness (2788 views) | | Tasted by Leejgreen on 12/24/2010: Gift (2538 views) | | Tasted by jcbrand on 9/2/2010 & rated 70 points: Pop and poured this bad boy and it has this really funky bouqet that was nothing like a zinfandel. The best way I can think of to describe it is almost fishy. Avoid... (2785 views) | | Tasted by Jdyessman on 3/13/2010: Very good wine. (2995 views) | | Tasted by anotherwino on 1/15/2010 & rated 90 points: Paon with Russells. (2977 views) | | Tasted by CWilliam on 1/3/2010 & rated 90 points: Quite enjoyable. Decanted for 1 hour (although not a huge change from the 1st taste pre-decant to post decant). The nose for this one is not nearly as strong as the fruit on the palate. This is a classic, jammy zin. Not a lot of complexity but plenty of blue & black fruits - some heat on the finish but not bad with food (excellent with chili). Would buy again. (2981 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 6/30/2009 & rated 88 points: – popped and poured – – tasted non-blind over 3 hours –
NOSE: dark fruits and blackberry liquer; white pepper, spicy oak, and a bit alcoholic.
BODY: magenta-garnet color of moderate depth; clear; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: very ripe fruits - a bit artificial tasting; some oak; this reminds me of the Dover Canyon Old Vine Zin, but this is not as complex; round; the 15.3% alc. causes some hotness on the finish (approx. 40 sec. in length); darker fruits than most Paso zins, and better than most Paso zins. I’ve had some better Zins, and many worse. At $16, this is a good QPR, but the lack of excitement will likely preclude me from buying again.
B: 50, 5, 11, 15, 7 = 88 (3189 views) | | Tasted by wcacern on 6/30/2009 & rated 88 points: 15.3% alcohol. deep dark purple garnet color. kind of tight on the nose. led to hints of red and blue berries, plum, spicy notes, cocoa, and vanilla custard. full bodied and full of ripe and juicy sweet fruit on the palate. | Sextant Wines Producer websiteZinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
