Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 1036 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jmoore431 on 4/14/2024 & rated 94 points: Full straw/yellow with vigorous fine beading; clean style with white orchard fruit with a nice lemon creme overlay; very complex and well-integrated; excellent vinosity and length. Super showing! Disgorged 5/14 (482 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 4/14/2024: From a bottle disgorged way back in November 2018, this was spectacular from the very first sip. Still vibrant, fresh and longer than a Phish concert. I thought I had grabbed a 2020 disgorgement, and got a little shock when I saw the back label. Laura and I like our NVs to get time time in the cellar, and this was a very happy result. (1171 views)
Tasted by Theodore S Butts on 4/13/2024: Paired with Halibut and sous vide potatoes
- disgorged Feb. 2023
- underripe strawberry, apple nose
- zinging acidity, feels a bit unbalanced at 45min open. However this definitely improves after capping and sticking overnight in the fridge.
- love this and knew it was still finding its stride with such recent disgorgement. (1016 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 2/28/2024 & rated 92 points: Any Rhone (A Side Public House): Drank a small glass over 45 minutes. Crispy with brisk minerality, pear and a touch of yeast. Another great bottle! (2882 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 2/25/2024 & rated 92 points: Monthly Tasting Group: All the Rhones (A - Side Public House, St. Paul, MN): Light gold color. Small glass over 20 minutes. Crisp green apples, toasted, burnt sugar, florals, pear, cherry, tart. Very good 92+ to 93pts. (2607 views)
Tasted by Eric on 1/27/2024: This bottle was disgorged in 2014 and cellared since 2015. 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir. This was as good a bottle of Vilmart NV as I have ever opened. Fabulously complex, funk, cherries and yeasty bread on the nose. Palate of silk, fine bead, white chocolate. Just smooth and delicious, lots of vigor still but really getting polished. (3699 views)
 Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 1/27/2024 & rated 93 points: Disgorgement 2019.
Day 1: Lemon, chalk, rose petals, minerals, lime, sour apple and dough. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. Outstanding effort.
Day 2: Excellent featuring lemon, pie crust, orange peel, lime, sour apples, rose petals, spice and chalk. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. A real super experience. 93+ points
Recommendation: Easy buy. (3216 views)
Tasted by JLCFan on 1/13/2024 & rated 93 points: Quince, toast and bruised apple. Quite rich, but still sinewy. Finishes saline. Very fine. (3500 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/9/2024: This, the 2023 disgorgement, shockingly delicious and right up front. Even better than its vintage cousins. (3830 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 1/7/2024: April 2022 disgorgement, the same as the bottle from last month that was not well-liked by some when I blinded it. I didn't have any issue with that bottle and neither with this one. Opened yesterday, finishing the small remainder tonight. This has a plumpness to it, of sliced apple with some pastry crust. The fruit here is less complex than some other disgorgements, again more opulent in tone with orange cream, lime, and ginger. Good bottle for drinking now, don't see any benefit in aging this disgorgement. (3996 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 1/5/2024 & rated 93 points: Disgorged Feb 2017 ; abv 12.5%
Minerally and saline, this had apple fruit seasoned with a little honey and a drizzle of melted butter. A twist of sour fruit cut through the sweetness to result in a Champagne that was racy and silky, refined and elegant. In a word, delicious. CHP 93 pts (3091 views)
Tasted by Bjweiss on 1/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Outstanding. Does everything I want in a great champagne. Layers of flavor and complexity. Mineral terroir notes. Barrel aging spice. And fresh high acid orchard fruit. Long finish. Can’t ask for more. Great QPR too. (3225 views)
Tasted by EyeDoc on 12/25/2023 & rated 92 points: I believe this must have been purchased in 2016 (one of those bottles I somehow missed cataloging.) So it has a bit of cellar age on it. This was very fresh and lively - great mousse. More the style that I prefer - brioche, light citrus. Tremendous with King Crab and Butter. I can drink this every time and be very happy (unfortunately my only bottle so time to buy more). (2920 views)
Tasted by Deadhead on 12/24/2023 & rated 94 points: May 2014 disgorgement. Amazing!! (2732 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 12/19/2023: Blind Champagne Tasting--Bring A Bottle That Represents Value: Didn't write down the disgorge on this one. Think 2022. The table seemed disappointed with the wine, with one person suggesting the texture had an oily quality to it? I dunno, I didn't mind the bottle but it certainly didn't wow the table, and it was surprising too when the bag was pulled off. Tangerine, apple and anise seed. Would have been helpful for a retaste tonight but I didn't bring the bottle home. (3745 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 12/18/2023: Served blind. Funky nose showing apple and oak. Oily and heavy with the acid not providing lift. Chalky and tart late. A real struggle from a producer we all love. This is one we should have made a point to try later on. Disg 04/22 (3180 views)
Tasted by bjlcrucrazy on 12/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Opened with the Eckler's following a bottle of Vilmart Emotion Rose. this was disgorged in 2011 meaning 12 years on the cork. very beautiful. Champagne !!! no sign of decline! (3009 views)
Tasted by philmtl on 12/14/2023: Ludwig`s 55th (Le Ptit Garde-Manger, Thoiry, France): Forgot to take a pick of the back label but I think this was 70% Chard, 30% PN, Disgorged Feb 2022.
Beautiful. Clean nose with lots of minerality and the citrus and berries jumping out behind the stones. Balanced mouthfeel with some pastry peeking through behind the fruit. Lots left in the tank. Drink with lots of enjoyment or hold for more. Beautiful champagne. (3044 views)
Tasted by Dulcie and Aylwin on 12/12/2023: Fruity with notes of apples. Couldn't really form an opinion on this: it's very nice (of course) but the price? (3111 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 12/11/2023 & rated 92 points: Annual holiday get-together (St. Genevieve): Toast, lemon and acid, none of which dominates. The pear flavor stands out. Well balanced. (3264 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 12/10/2023 & rated 92 points: Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Had a small pour at the holiday party reception. Excellent as always, taut, balanced, energetic, nice orchard fruit. Brad declared it COTN, so that's pretty good praise. 92+pts. (2711 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 12/10/2023: Brought to a large gathering, shared with friends over dinner and conversation. Forgot my notes at the venue :(

Everything was just so balanced! Pear, yellow apple, white flowers, toast, lemon. Lots going on with steady mousse. (2977 views)
Tasted by asparagus on 11/24/2023 & rated 89 points: 2015 base. the dosage was very apparent and detracted from the other elements. stil enjoyable and a good wine, regardless (3138 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 11/23/2023: A touch more vinous and sweet than the coer de cuvee. Ripe red apple and bread notes. With four drinkers the bottle didn't last long. Great cuvee and qpr. (2812 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 10/31/2023 & rated 91 points: Not blind , at the winery

The base 2019 is really convincing. Lush, balanced, refreshing acidity. Makes fun to drink. 91-92 (4214 views)

(NV Vilmart & Cie "Cuvée Grand Cellier" Brut) ($79.00) 50% ’08, and 25% each ’07-’06. 70%PN/30%CH. Disgorged 4/10. The wine has always been excellent, but it used to be more starched and not entirely knit, and now it’s silkier. This is certainly among the very best of the last fifteen years, with the clinging flower of ’08 and the warm, honeyed ’06 dancing in graceful counterpoint. Mirabelles and apple sauce against lavender and wisteria, a little more springy than usual, with a refined, incense-y finish.

Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
