Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 46 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Outplaying on 1/11/2015: We had three bottles of this. The first was excellent as it showed vibrantly with lime, tonic water, saline, citrus, light apple and some earthy minerals. The second bottle was corked and the third seemed a little fatter, with more baked apple and less mineral. Less vibrant and not as enjoyable. (3434 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 9/7/2014 & rated 90 points: Very pretty, round and flavorful with plenty of acidity. (3757 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 9/21/2013 & rated 90 points: This wine is crisp, bright, refreshing and well-balanced. The scent is citrus and fresh ocean. Lemon, green apple, mineral and a hint of sea salt are the flavors. (4548 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 1/6/2013 & rated 88 points: Tasted quite tart. (5383 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 11/5/2012: Similar notes as with previous bottles except maybe a little more oak. Salty minerals, lemon, green apple and popcorn. This one also seemed a little more salty, which I like. Good QPR. (5822 views)
Tasted by bcc725 on 10/20/2012: Well made and balanced, if lighter than I had hoped for...Didn't blow me away as much as other 2008's of the Macon have....but an effective drink with anything of the sea and air (except duck)...Won't purchase again. (3181 views)
Tasted by Blcmdpa@gmail.com on 10/7/2012 & rated 90 points: light body, short finish, sour finish (2857 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 7/11/2012: Similar notes as previous bottles; tart lemon and green apple, lots of mineral. Will be picking up more. (2434 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 2/26/2012: Similar to previous bottles: crisp, lemony citrus, minerals. Enjoyed it. (2305 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 11/6/2011: Similar impression as with the last bottle. Crisp, lemon and citrus with nice minerality. Pretty nice. (2734 views)
Tasted by wynnewood500 on 11/6/2011: Delightfully refreshing! (2962 views)
Tasted by pmk on 9/5/2011 & rated 90 points: citrus forward, with definitie myer lemon finish, nicely balanced , light bodied and straw colored, distinctive. Great with sauteed halibut kabobs. (2903 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 8/25/2011: The oak was much stronger in this bottle than in the first bottle in June. That bottle was much more integrated, and the oak took a backseat to the lemon notes and minerals. This most recent bottle showed some overt coarse wood. It mellowed out by the third night, whereupon the wine was easier to drink, showing a somewhat simple, lemony palate. Good, not great. (2876 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 8/7/2011 & rated 90 points: Minneapolis Does a Blind Tasting Part 2 (Tracy's House): Showing nice right now with spice, lemons, minerals and orange. Medium finish and balanced. (3723 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 8/6/2011 & rated 88 points: Minneapolis Wine Club - Blind Tasting (Tracy's): Pale gold color. Nose is light, with some mineral, mild oak, apple, some pear, and a touch of spice. The palate has medium light body and is consistent. Nice wine. 88+pts. (3641 views)
Tasted by joshbryer on 8/1/2011: No formal notes, drank off the list. This was pretty well put together, nose was nice, I recall floral scents and minerals and some sappy fruits. Similar on the palate with balanced acidity, good chalky fruit, decent length. Nothing special but admirable for the level and obviously striving to over achieve. (2926 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 7/7/2011: Delicious. Perhaps not quite as pure as 2007, nor as sharply acid, but lovely none the less. Lemon and mineral water and yes, a little oak which helps flesh out a bit of cream, but in the most delicately supporting sense, never overbearing. I drink this wine and I think how happy I am with this level of white burg at this price rather than playing roulette with aging the expensive wines. This delivers so much for such a reasonable price. I will probably re-up with the 2008, being skeptical of 2009 with its warm year reputation. (3315 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 6/14/2011: Pretty darn tasty. Palate is rainwater pure with a squirt of lemon. On the second night, much longer on the palate, the lemon is stronger and there are also nuances of grapefruit and minerals. The oak is also peeking out, in a good way, imparting some textural interest to the palate, and the acidity provides nice energy. Should have bought more than a six pack. Easy to drink. (3393 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 6/12/2011: Chappellet Vertical 2000-2008 (The Twelves, West Grove PA): Citrus with a healthy dose of mineral. Crisp with just a touch of vanilla. A great pairing with the scallop appetizer. I liked this quite a bit. (3937 views)
Tasted by wineretriever on 5/18/2011 & rated 88 points: Nice wine. Lemon zest, almost Napa Sauv Blanc like, but then that tiny bit of oak rounds it out. I didn't buy it, so it tasted even better. Had over two days, and shared with 5 others, and everyone enjoyed. (3360 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 5/18/2011 & rated 90 points: Refreshing, crisp, green apple, grapefruit and mineral flavors. (3150 views)
Tasted by wynnewood500 on 2/18/2011: Crisp clean flavors. Did not get the citrus that others have noted. (3727 views)
Tasted by Beavis77 on 12/24/2010: Surprisingly intense nose for Chardonnay. Stone fruits, apples and pineapple citrus aromas burst from the glass.
The palate tastes like a fruit salad of slightly unripe peaches and nectarines dashed with some lemon juice. Smoothed out with just a dash of oak.
This wine is delicious. It's a reminder of how Chardonnay can be fun and so drinkable. (4492 views)
Tasted by smkl123 on 9/30/2010 & rated 85 points: oddly vegetal nose, excessively acidic. Some mineral flavor, but limited at best. Mediocre at best. Not the strongest showing of a Montagny premier. (3884 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 8/17/2010 & rated 89 points: Crisp green apple and lemon flavors with just a hint of oak and vanilla. (4020 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
