Community Tasting Notes (average 88.2 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 94 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Lazlo Toth on 2/26/2016 & rated 90 points: Golden straw color with noticeable viscosity. Fruitful bouquet of lime, banana and a hint of flint. Dryer than the nose, but delightfully delicate green apple, peach and lime on the palate with strong mineral character. Full-bodied with a great mouth-feel. Low acidity which is somewhat unexpected, but perhaps owing to its maturity. Long finish. Very lovely for its age, but drink now. (3699 views)
Tasted by RobertVitello on 11/17/2013: Not big fans of Chardonnay, but this was nice. (6086 views)
Tasted by Motz on 10/10/2013 & rated 91 points: Just a beautiful wine! Gorgeous bouquet of sub-tropical fruits, herbs, lemongrass, and minerality. Excellent palate, mouthcoating texture, rich, ripe, and with great acid. Long, chalky finish. Outstanding! (6308 views)
Tasted by kevjenw on 11/30/2012 & rated 87 points: Nice semi-dry white. Some green apple fruit, with med-high acid, and semi-dry finish. Buy again: Yes (8124 views)
Tasted by birdman5828 on 9/23/2012 & rated 88 points: Good fruit and minerality opened up nicely with some time in the glass. Viscous mouthfeel. (8795 views)
Tasted by birdman5828 on 9/23/2012 & rated 88 points: Nice fruit and minerality. Mouthfeel was viscous. (5585 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 8/18/2012 & rated 88 points: "Go To Wines" $15 and under (Shari's house): Pale gold color. Pop and pour, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Nose shows good minerality, but was slow to reveal more, developing green apple and white flowers. The palate is fairly round, toasted, light oak, green fruits, abundant minerals. More muted than the bottle 8 months ago, fruit seems to be fading. This is probably past prime, drink up. (4203 views)
Tasted by degrandcru on 8/12/2012 & rated 87 points: Apple, grapefruit, lime and grasses. A hint of sweetness which makes it great for asian food. Very nice. (3201 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 7/8/2012 & rated 89 points: Dusty on the nose, like a good white Burgundy. Lots of acidity on the palate and finish. Drank unaccompanied, but would have been good at the dinner table. (2068 views)
Tasted by wineOK on 6/3/2012 & rated 79 points: Not feeling this white today. There is a skunky bitter component to this that I did not enjoy. Not a bad wine just not my taste. (2166 views)
Tasted by linserge on 5/21/2012: good value, fairly crisp, needs air (2326 views)
Tasted by BadOyster on 5/11/2012 & rated 90 points: It's a shame, but this bottle's steadily going down-hill, with decreasing apple intensity and more obvious/harsh acid. It's a 90 for now, but more like 89+. Drink 'em if you got em. (2352 views)
Tasted by Janstan on 4/18/2012 & rated 86 points: Good with pea soup. Medium body, very crisp not fruity. Would go with a variety of foods (2585 views)
Tasted by Evil Homer on 3/25/2012 & rated 88 points: Remembering this being very nice. Stinging acidity with nice fruit flavours mixed with minerality and slate (2606 views)
Tasted by Raul on 3/18/2012 & rated 87 points: COLOUR DEPTH: pale/medium; COLOUR HUE: yellow; CLARITY: clear; AROMA INTENSITY: moderate; DEVELOPMENT: youthful; AROMAS: fruits, citrus, floral; DRY/SWEET: very dry; BODY: light/medium; ACIDITY: lively/fresh; FLAVOURS INTENSITY: moderate; FLAVOURS: floral, tropical fruits; FINISH: medium (2686 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 2/18/2012 & rated 88 points: Green vegetable nose. Light acid, round, some lemon. Agree with sauvignon blanc similarity (2687 views)
Tasted by winegr on 1/30/2012 & rated 89 points: Nice wine. Slightly sweet on the attack versus my uber dry preference, but has a great crystalline minerality on the mid and finish. 89. Reminds me a bit of the southern right sauv blanc from s africa. (2923 views)
Tasted by BadOyster on 1/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Superb white wine - tasted like a $16 white for sure. Beautiful green apple and other fruits with a nice acid/crisp backbone. Medium finish with minerals and florals to keep your palate agile. Wish I had more for the $8 price I originally paid for it. I can't think of a better white for under $10 - if only I could continue finding it for under $10. (3069 views)
Tasted by TPB on 1/27/2012 & rated 89 points: Very good value. (2927 views)
Tasted by Fateful Destiny on 1/18/2012 & rated 88 points: Acidic. Slightly green. Some grass and hints of green apple (likely related to the acidity). Ok (3027 views)
Tasted by abqdeb on 1/10/2012 & rated 85 points: a little flat tasting compared to previous vintages and other bottles. (3579 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 1/1/2012 & rated 89 points: New Year's Day Dinner (Jan's): Pale green color. Drank a small pour over 15 minutes. Nice nose of apple, light minerals, florals. The palate is consistent, light bodied, nice acidity, medium finish. Very nice, great QPR. 89+pts.to 90pts. (3607 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 11/18/2011 & rated 88 points: Another nice showing, albeit simple. Citrus and melons. Very clean and crisp. Good QPR play. (3883 views)
Tasted by kevjenw on 11/2/2011 & rated 82 points: Good, dry white; nice acid with green apple and dry finish; Buy again for a dry white (3530 views)
Tasted by dwaynelm on 10/14/2011 & rated 87 points: Pear and minerality. Reminds me of a roussane. Good alternative to a chard. Nice lime acidity. (3982 views)

Verdejo

Verdejo thrives in Northwestern Castile continental climate and gravel soils. The grape gives aromatic wines, often soft with body.
Wines take on a slightly yellowish color, with a youthful, greenish hue. A crisp and fresh white variety with grassy notes, a touch of fruit and excellent level of acidity. The extract, a key factor when assessing the personality of great white wines, is perceived through its volume and its characteristic bitter touch, which leaves a glint of originality in the mouth, accompanied by a rich fruity expression. These wines are harmonious, and their aftertaste invites to go on drinking.

Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
