Front Page | Recent Changes | Title Index | HelpCellarTracker uses the term 'varietal' to describe the name of the grape (or cépage in French) from which a wine is vinified. As a side note, this is somewhat of a misnomer, as you might refer to a wine reflecting proper varietal character, but you would typically refer to the variety. In many cases, the varietal might also reflect a somewhat less specific 'regional' blend. As a matter of policy, we have not tried to get too specific with these, instead preferring to classify things in ways that are as consistent as possible across vintages.
