Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 6/17/2023 & rated 93 points: Retail $75. Under cork. I bought these an astonishing 15 years ago (almost) from an online auction house and this is the first bottle I have cracked. Should I have popped this a decade ago? Likely. Maybe a handful of years ago? Certainly. Yesterday? Yes! Today? Clearly this wine has been affected by the evil demon of oxygen. But. It does not have an (overly) oxidative nose or palate. Sure, there is caramel and a nutty aspect (OK, maybe a touch oxidized), but there is still some fruit, a touch of sweetness, and an astounding acidity. Look. My wife won't like this wine, neither will any of my relatives from across the Midwest, but it is extremely tasty, with a decidedly dessert wine kind of vibe.

Tasted by Hanibal on 8/21/2022 & rated 93 points: Colour brown but not oxidized. Never have drank a white wine this dark and still not oxidized. Such a treat to have tried this. The fruit is still present and complexity is on another level. Very long aftertatste (1103 views)
Tasted by acheng on 11/12/2021 & rated 93 points: Deep golden hue. Fantastic aged sweet honey, apricot nose and just the faintest hint of sweetness in the mouth. At peak. Highly enjoyable with Peking duck at QJD. (705 views)
Tasted by BillBell73 on 5/2/2018: Pretty apparent from the popping of the cork that this is oxidized and shot - at least I got to experience the other bottles while they were still in decent shape.

I love Weinbach and they can be transcendent in youth but I’ve had too many bad experiences with older bottles (mostly Riesling and Pinot Gris, the Gewurtz seems to age better) to ever age one again. It leaves me wondering what exactly they’re doing differently in the cellar than Trimbach and Zind-Himbrecht, both of which seem to age effortlessly. (1542 views)
Tasted by BillBell73 on 12/1/2017: This bottle was delicious and very idiosyncratic. The botrytis, the bottle age, and the acidity are combining into a very interesting whole...I guess they picked at varying levels of ripeness so there is a zingy component that offsets the spicy, rich, botrytised fruit. I know I’ve had varying opinions about this wine before but I’m loving it now as some of the previously gawky components knit together a bit. (1697 views)
Tasted by DanielN on 6/16/2016 & rated 93 points: Alsace Riesling magic. Lat bottle (2330 views)
Tasted by BillBell73 on 1/26/2016: As the last reviewer noted...honeyed caramel with good acidity and a lot of aromatic complexity. This bottle was really drinking well and probably at peak, and will require a strong cheese course or spicy food to show best. (2496 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 11/7/2015 & rated 91 points: A private dinner (at home): Rich, honeyed, earthy, very elegant hint of caramel, impressive but also a bit soft and monolithic and not necessarily a very typical Riesling. Yellow apple on the palate and a lightly burnt quality on the finish. Reminds me a bit of Künstler's Hochheimer Hölle Goldkapsel 2002. Puts power above precision and finesse. Should really have been enjoyed in the first decade of its life. (2846 views)
92-93 pts (2143 views)
Tasted by Machiavelli on 9/18/2015: Engagement celebration at Actinolite.
Yellow colour. Intense nose of honey and apricot, with spice and white flowers. Off dry, spicy, creamy, lanolin and wax, medium body, balanced, long finish. Outstanding.
Sweeter and much more mature than I recall from previous bottle. (1685 views)
Tasted by DanielN on 2/6/2015 & rated 91 points: Candide orange and lemon peel with botrytis carachter. Really good drink wine as the first wine of the year early on new years day. (1279 views)
Tasted by BillBell73 on 10/29/2014: A beautifully balanced and mature wine in the very early stages of oxidation. I have no idea if this is just bottle variation but the cork was in very good shape. Fantastic with Sichuan spicy noodles with pork shoulder. (1186 views)
Tasted by Villon on 4/13/2014 & rated 95 points: Très beau nez puissant, exotique et floral. Un vin demi-sec baroque, exubérant, rond et gras, mais bien balancé. Très long, mais léger creux en milieu de bouche, sans doute que le fruit commence à se retirer doucement avec l'âge. Style catholique. (1793 views)
Tasted by DanielN on 1/2/2014: Orange color, notes of candide orange peel and tropical fruits. Oxidized medium sweet and low acidity. Hope the other 2 has kept better. (1703 views)
Tasted by Klugi Wine on 7/20/2013 & rated 95 points: Weinkreis Reise - Burgund 2013; 7/20/2013-7/25/2013 (Vosne-Romanee): Very good structure and some steely acidity. Perfect length, honey and some peaches.
Perfect balance and everything interwoven.
Will hold for some time at this level. (2687 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/11/2012: Random Notes from Travels in France; 4/6/2012-4/14/2012 (Paris, Loire, Alsace): Full yellow. Much fresher than the '99 Cuvée Catherine we drank earlier today. Started with more exotic notes and citrus that made me think of Pinot Gris but got more petrol and Riesling with air. Medium to full, rich, some sugar but electric acidity cuts through the fat. In the end, marvelous tension between fruit and acid. Outstanding wine. (4689 views)
Tasted by Tom Schepers on 1/23/2012: Perzik en abrikozen, honingzoet afdronk mist structuur. Fijne zuren. (2570 views)
Tasted by T.J.Burn on 6/10/2011 & rated 96 points: Apricot all over the nose. Citrus, honey, a little petrol and apricot on the palate. Finish is a bit tight. A truly special wine though. Flavors rarely found in dry/offdry whites. Plenty of life left, but wonderful now. (2938 views)
Tasted by Machiavelli on 2/27/2011: Medium yellow. Gorgeous nose of stone pit fruits (peaches and apricots), just a hint of petrol and slate. On the palate, slightly off-dry, medium acidity, replay from the nose with mineral and honeyed spicy botrytis notes on the lush mid-palate. Slightly bitter, peach kernel on the medium length finish. This is outstanding and I couldn't keep my hands off it! (2366 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 1/4/2011: Not sure this is the bottling I drank, but anyway....golden color, but strong flavors of petrol and not especially sweet as some Alsatians can be....better the second night as it rounded out and the fruit that was there emerged (2276 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/6/2009 & rated 96 points: 25 gr RS. Bright yellow with a golden sheen; late harvested grapes from the middle part of the slope, includes some botrytis fruit, which is evident on the nose, rich and smoky, with tropical fruit, depth, wax and minerals, nice freshness too; wonderful tension and balance on the palate, very concentrated yet elegant with a velvety sweetness completely countered by the grip of the steely acidity; fabulous length. Now - 2018. (2195 views)
Tasted by scamhi on 5/3/2008: golden hue, delicious honey, tropical lychee, boyrtitis. Very ripe, full and long finish (3010 views)
Tasted by slon on 3/25/2005: Dinner at Cru in NYC. Fantastic wine. Rich, exotic, and sweet, with just the right amount of acid to keep everything fresh. (3739 views)
