Tasted by wirelesswine on 4/20/2024 & rated 92 points: Classic barolo profile, drinking very well now bordering on tertiary development yet with good fruit remaining. (32 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 2/4/2024 & rated 95 points: Nicely aged, light but has substance, smooth tannins, mellow fruit of the stewed variety, good balance, nice sipping, interestingly no sediment, drank with pizza with sausage, mushrooms, spinach, crust made with organic Utah oo flour, last bottle, I thought 2007 in Piedmont was a good year when they came out and this wine has developed beautifully. (187 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 8/6/2023 flawed bottle: Corked, doh! (320 views)
Tasted by efeldhake@yahoo.com on 3/5/2022 & rated 92 points: Garnet in color. Nose of plums, violets, and dark cherries with hint of leather. Taste of dark cherries, plums, menthol, and hint of tobacco. Lovely fruit and nice balance with pronounced acidity. Probably drinking at its peak but this window should last 3-6 years. (1270 views)
Tasted by bergkamp10 on 2/12/2022 & rated 91 points: Very nice. Deep color, dark crimson, minimal sediment. Expressive bouquet, wood shavings, leather, black tea, dark fruits reaching through. Nice mouthfeel, tarry black cherry, cocoa hints of Orange rind with a tannic bite on the finish. Good if a bit modern, and perhaps lacking a few layers, but a fine value. (1226 views)
Tasted by braised on 12/29/2021: Opened at noon for a 7p dinner.

Fantastic, persistent aroma. Lean rather than voluptuous. Dried cherries, tobacco and underbrush.

Excellent with cheese fondue. Damn good. (1284 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 12/25/2021: Pop and pour. Generous notes of red fruit on the nose and palate along with some secondary earthy notes. Silky texture and very enjoyable. Good combo of a classic producer in a warm vintage. I'm guessing this is in early maturity and will continue to drink well for 10 or 20 more years. (1228 views)
Tasted by SeaSmoke on 12/19/2021 & rated 90 points: Slow ox for 6 hours. Savory and earthy notes with dark cherries dominate on the nose and palate. Tannins have softened. This bottle drank nicely. Still has time left. (1130 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 12/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Pnp, could have used an hour decant as it became more open half way thru our meal. Nice soft fruit profile. Definitely some secondaries there too. All in a good way. Acidity helped it as a good pairing with light Italian fare. Still lots of structure here with edgy tannins still notable. Seems to have lotso life left. (677 views)
Tasted by marcelk on 6/17/2020 flawed bottle: Maderized (1303 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 4/4/2020: very solid classic bottle (1282 views)
Tasted by BaylinBoy on 12/22/2019 & rated 91 points: This is wonderful right now and ready too drink after some decanting. Typical blood-like barolo color, dark fruit, cherry and tobacco notes. Great body and lingering finish. Excellent (1391 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 7/24/2019 & rated 91 points: As others have said, this is in an early mature state and is a good time to drink. Lots of bricking around the edges of the wine. Ripe red fruits, leather, moderate acidity, tannins have softened. (1731 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 12/17/2018 & rated 91 points: Mature Barolo....nose is less fruity and a bit more savory and vegetable like..muted fruit on the tongue, tomato, balsamic vinegar, spice,
Drying leather finish... drink up nothing more to gain.... (2133 views)
Tasted by tbone on 10/23/2018: Good, not great and time to drink up. Starting to dry out and get a little raisiny. (1791 views)
Tasted by Alexroy on 2/1/2018 & rated 87 points: Beautiful aged burgundy and brown. Bright red fruit, some sharpness, smooth tannins, medium length. (2208 views)
Tasted by JuliannaD on 12/2/2017 & rated 89 points: A nice wine with some lighter red fruit, floral notes, and prominent tannins. I think the tannins will outlast any other element in this wine. (2304 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 11/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Brownish red swirl...quick formed legs....aroma is apple pie spice,
Raspberry, ripe tomato...taste is nice acidic fruit of strawberry, leather,
Spice with a good balance of fruit and tannin and acidity..
Delicious wine...Pair with red sauce pasta! (2278 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 10/28/2017 & rated 92 points: Big wine, tannins have mellowed a bit although still prominent, good fruit, nice balance, never soared but great flavor, drank with swordfish, will drink again as I have another bottle, wine should continue to develop. (2090 views)
Tasted by DFBW on 10/21/2017 & rated 92 points: Purchased in a supermarket a few years ago at a pretty good price point. Been sitting in the cellar for a few years and worth the wait. Decanted and left for three hours. Deep musky nose and beautiful Barolo flavour. Deep, floral and very good with food. Lots going on. Bargain. (1953 views)
Tasted by ecola on 10/8/2017 & rated 89 points: Ready to drink. Dried red cherry, tobacco, leather on the medium body. Solid pairing with sausage and pasta. (1593 views)
Tasted by Vinomane on 9/18/2017 & rated 90 points: Pretty simple on the nose, but fine volume and length on the palate. Ample, yet not lush; balanced, yet not tense. A very competent bargain Barolo to be drunk from now until the better crus of this early maturing vintage hit peak in 3 -5 years. (1573 views)
Tasted by petec-s on 9/16/2017 & rated 91 points: Mature looking at the rim. Classic Barolo aromatic bouquet of forest floor, decaying rose, liquorice, tar, underlying sour cherry. All reflected in a refined palate with fine balancing acidity and gentle but firm tannin and length. Very enjoyable. (1460 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 2/13/2017 & rated 90 points: Brick-red coloring... Thin body ...nice aroma of bright Berry... Flavors of cherry herbs leather ... Enjoyable glass of wine
Definitely a food wine ...paired with homemade bolognese lasagna (2132 views)
Tasted by PaulusLoZebra on 1/1/2017 & rated 89 points: Tasted immediately, decanted for 30 minutes and consumed over two hours; in retrospect I should have decanted for 2 hours before serving; medium-brick color; closed nose at first, it eventually showed savory and earthy notes with bitter cherry and dark cherry predominating; big rough tannins that did soften somewhat after 1+ hour but nevertheless are too prominent and lead to a wine that lacks harmony. Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
