Showing some development with dried apricot and honey. A touch of sweetness on the medium bodied palate with impeccable balance via vibrant acidity. Long finish. Delicious. Drink or hold.
WSET notes :
Deep gold.
Pronounced on the nose with peach, orange blossom, mango, grapefruit, wet rock, honey, petrol, dried apricot, and ginger. Developing.
Pronounced and offdry on the palate. Medium body, medium alcohol, high acidity, long finish.
Can drink now but has potential for aging. (536 views) | | Tasted by belfast taxman on 7/29/2023 & rated 92 points: After a couple of slightly lesser Zind Humbrecht’s from 2009 down the sink recently thank goodness we found a return to form with this bottle. We drank it with chicken piri Piri and it was a delightful combination. Complex and yes it was mature in colour - an intriguing mix of lemon curd, beeswax and paraffin. Definitely something out of the ordinary and really worth it. (443 views) | | Tasted by Vino Me on 1/31/2022 & rated 93 points: Opened by Allred. Light yellow color. Petrol aromas. Not completely dry as I expected. Notes of chamomile tea and spiced pears. This had excellent depth and wonderful secondary nuances. I previously drank the 1997 vintage of this wine and it was about the same quality and have a 2008 sitting in my cellar. 93 points (1401 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 1/29/2022 & rated 93 points: Dinner with Friends (Reserve 22, Glen Ellyn): Interesting that others have found some oxidation or found this to be over the hill but it gies to show that there is no such thing as a great wine, only great bottles. This bottle was still on the young side for riesling, with a deep but age appropriate color and aromas of petrol, apple, ripe stone fruit and mineral. The palate mirrors the bouquet and has a terrific richness. Long finish. Beautiful. I wish I had a few more. (1187 views) | | Tasted by mukden on 11/7/2020 & rated 88 points: NO. I think this is gone..should have drunk earlier. It is a too-dark golden colour...and while there is some taste as it enters the mouth (good acidity and some spicy fruit), it soon flattens out into a not too pleasant aftertaste of applyness. Not good. DRINK UP ! Pity opened it to celebrate the election...and we all know the election I am talking about. (1981 views) | | Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 7/24/2020 & rated 89 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2010 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): *** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note *** Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later. Clear, pale amber color. Some lactic notes in the nose, mixed with some hidden fruit an mineral notes. Juicy, surprisingly smooth and round. Very mineral and long. But it lacks depth and pressure to be very good. One of my personal disappointments this night. 88-89 (2472 views) | | Tasted by unrelenting on 3/16/2020 & rated 88 points: Probably 0.5% residual sugar. Medium oxidation (2064 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/3/2019: Another Wine Slog Across France; 11/2/2019-11/13/2019 (Paris, Alsace, Burgundy, Encore Paris): Light yellow. Wonderful high tones of citrus and petrol. Rich, off dry, and stony with penetrating fruit and acidity. Impressive now and a good deal more in store. (2562 views) | | Tasted by colmanstephenson on 3/3/2019: Fully Dry Highly aromatic tropical and citrus fruits. bitters (1943 views) | | Tasted by acb on 11/10/2018 & rated 94 points: Very enjoyable. Lovely golden colour in the glass. A nose that draws you in, lots of honeyed yellow fruits. Good balance in the mouth, with some acidity and minerality to balance the sweet roasted pineapple flavours that come through. Served at a casual lunch with a poached salmon salad, and everyone around the table loved this. (1879 views) | | Tasted by colmanstephenson on 11/8/2018: Sadly I've drunk three of these without notes. One left. I'll do that one justice (1524 views) | | Tasted by ArtF on 8/18/2018 & rated 95 points: Pours light gold. Very smooth, fresh and balanced. Medium to full bodied. Dry but lots of underlying spicy and tropical fruits. I liked this colder. As it warmed, acidity became more noticeable. Should last many more years. (1571 views) | | Tasted by ArtF on 4/22/2018 & rated 94 points: Light gold. Nice nose. Balanced. Dry but rich and fruity. Still improving. (1729 views) | | Tasted by Geoffwine on 2/25/2018 & rated 94 points: V. bright green-yellow. Fresh notes of lime, honeysuckle, jasmine. Rich, long, dryish and very well-balanced. Acidity levels are on the low side but there is a lovely sour/sweet contrast. Not any evidence of petrol notes. Very good now and will stay that way. (1794 views) | | Tasted by ArtF on 12/31/2017 & rated 93 points: Zind-Humbrecht puts an “indice” number under the alcohol percentage on the label. This wine is labeled 1 meaning completely dry impression. It pours light gold. Very smooth, fresh and balanced, dry with hint of spicy tropical fruits. Drank better colder at this young age. (1600 views) | | Tasted by colmanstephenson on 11/26/2017: A: Gold N: Spicy P: Round, rich, rather then sweet. Spice. Quite long. More subdued then I expected. But then it followed Climens. (1766 views) | | Tasted by BioTim on 1/19/2017 & rated 95 points: Doppelt dekantiert und anschliessend 3 Stunden im Kühlschrank.
(1911 views) | | Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 12/13/2015 & rated 88 points: After a bit of air, this settled into a more classic Alsace grand-cru riesling. A bit petrolly, and not the most compelling nose for me, but it's still undeniably well-put-together. Acid could be a bunch stronger. (2908 views) | | Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 11/12/2015 & rated 81 points: Thursday night blinds at the new apartment with Tim (Duboce Triangle, SF): Lots of petrol. Slight botrytis Tastes 14% Alcohol (actually 12.5) Tastes 10-15g/L RS (actually 9.5) Bitter! ? why? Acid is elevated, not high. This is a bit hot, flabby, and bitter for me. I’m surprised! I’ve always liked Z-H’s wines in the past. (3102 views) | | Tasted by cohnwine on 10/14/2014: Delicious. Sorbet-like. Nice balance between sweetness and acidity, though not technically an off-dry wine. It's a dry wine with an off-dry like fullness of body. Lemon, citrus zest. Long finish. (3475 views) | | Tasted by KenPlace on 11/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Somewhat closed. Open at least 1 hour before serving and consider decanting. (4169 views) | | Tasted by GTFreek on 11/4/2013: Blind tasted. Nose of citrus, lemon zest, lime, orange peel. white flowers, almonds, butter. Palate we hovered between dry and off-dry, med-plus acid, medium alcohol. Some of us guessed Chenin, most guessed Riesling. Surprised to find it was such high quality, keep this in the cellar for now. (3407 views) | | Tasted by englishman's claret on 10/20/2013 & rated 92 points: Rich, ripe, full. Stone fruits. Honeyed, just a little unfocused. (3049 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Zind-Humbrecht Producer website Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
