Palate has round rich fruit and piercing bright acidity. Great contrast and tension. Good depth of flavor that largely echoes the nose though a bit less tropical in profile. It was balanced squarely between CA weighty oak and French intense minerality. Lots of depth and complexity. Lemon curd, floral honey scented stone fruit, caramel and pollen. Very expressive nose, lush texture and a lingering finish. I would pair with a seafood dish with a balance of richness and acidity (Seared scallops with citrus vinaigrette). |

| ||Tasted by Frank Murray III on 10/11/2014: Rhys Tasting With The Gang (My House): Opened and poured in prep for the Rhys dinner here at the house tonight. Perfect chill, right stem. There is a distinct pineapple note here, along with a light coconut. The lime skin note adds the zip of acidity and I can sense this is going to be pretty fruit focused and sexy in tone style. Will retaste later in about 3 hours...this seemed to show the oak more over dinner, with the coconut and vanilla barrel tones, which also adds a creaminess. Good acidity, just a fatter feel. We tasted this next to the 2010 Horseshoe chard, which I preferred very much over this Alpine. In the end, as just one Rhys drinker, I wish the oak on this wine would get pulled back. (2589 views)|

| ||Tasted by HowardNZ on 7/19/2014: 2007 Burgundies for Brodie and Raz (Wellington, New Zealand): Pale gold. A rich, ripe bouquet of vanilla bean, almonds, lemon, pear and some lactic aromas. The toasty oak component is quite obvious here. This is hedonistic, with more weight and less complexity and focus than the Combettes. It was a primary, large scaled Chardonnay with plenty of fruit, that was suggested as being a bit too broad and lacking acid. I put this down to the youth of the wine, which might develop more detail and nuance once it sheds its baby fat. (2378 views)|

Taste: Medium/full bodied with tart medium/high acidity. There is a sharpness to the acidity that is a bit overpowering with red apples, pears, white fruits, and some papaya notes.
Overall: This is most certainly on the young side. There are some excellent raw materials here and it needs time to fully show itself. (2259 views)

Alpine vineyard produces really special Chardonnay and this 2010 is a great example. It is fresh and focused with textbook Alpine aromatics of minerals and ocean spray. This great Chardonnay can be enjoyed anytime but will be best with a few years of age.

Once referred to by wine writers as the Chaine d'Or -- or "golden chain" -- the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA sits above Silicon Valley, running along the craggy range next to the Pacific on some of the prettiest parts of Northern California. The area supports more than 75 wineries, despite being limited by geography and high land prices.
In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation became federally recognized, one of the first American viticultural areas to be defined by geophysical and climatic factors. The appellation encompasses the Santa Cruz Mountain range, from Half Moon Bay in the north, to Mount Madonna in the south. The east and west boundaries are defined by elevation, extending down to 800 feet in the east and 400 feet in the west.
