Community Tasting Notes (average 85 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 48 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Bozekt on 10/30/2014 & rated 88 points: Aromas resembling a more subdued sauvignon blanc - grapefruit, citrus, and wildflowers. The palate is quite nice, showing the same flavors, but with a more round and balanced profile as opposed to the sometimes vibrant acidity of a Marlborough sauvignon blanc. Fuller body, more elegant and well integrated with a touch of honeysuckle. Acidity is food-friendly enough, but great on its own. Well worth the price and will seek out this one again for an above average everyday drink. (2378 views)
Tasted by king-bing on 1/4/2014: Lovely as ever/ Probably my favourite sub £10 house wine. Nice weight and balance. Zesty. Enough character. (2063 views)
Tasted by Fatty Cat on 11/30/2013 & rated 90 points: Late Nov 2011: golden color; exotic fruit bowl in nose and mouth.

Liked this wine. Fantastic value. (1232 views)
Tasted by wineaficionado on 10/3/2013 & rated 85 points: Fresh, vibrant wine. A bit of pear and flintstone. Neither very compex nor thought-provoking but well-made. Good with any type of seafood. Drink now or in the next three years. (2038 views)
Tasted by dssmith on 7/23/2013 & rated 79 points: Very dry. Some fruit. Not very interesting (2492 views)
Tasted by Porchino on 7/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Fantastic value pick (2211 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 6/29/2013 & rated 88 points: Aromas of peach, apple, pear, wax crayon, lemon, stone and dry grass are pleasant with hints of spice.
On the palate this wine is balanced and appealing with flavors of apple pie, lemon zest, peach tones and a nice minerality. Clean with moderate acidity and low if any malo. the finish is clean and juicy.
A very food friendly wine (1166 views)
 Tasted by AB_Taggart on 3/17/2013 & rated 85 points: A steal at undr $10 (686 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 2/17/2013 & rated 79 points: Absolutely no personality nor typicity. Drinking reasonably well but watery and shy. Small nose dominated by peach. On the palate a balanced, short, dry wine with S body, M+ acids and no complexity. Earth and small funk in the end-game. Had same experience as Zweeder.
Impression: at the better end of Average.
Non-blind. Had immediately fr 1/2-btl. (770 views)
Tasted by wine_sloth on 1/12/2013 & rated 81 points: Decent, lifted nose of citrus, hints of grapefruit and honeydew melon. Dry and fairly straightforward on the palate, plenty of citrus and green apple fruit character. A good everyday wine, nothing spectacular but very reasonably priced. (4066 views)
Tasted by kevincheng on 12/29/2012 & rated 87 points: I have not had much Verdejo in the past, and i was looking forward to something quite interesting. Nose was quite aromatic with yellow and green fruit and hints of spring flowers. Palate was quite simple, but that was that... a simple drinkable wine which fared well with my grilled hake that night. (4186 views)
Tasted by Conde on 12/11/2012 & rated 87 points: This is an absolute bargain if you are in to broad, fruity and crispy wines. It combines smashing fruit with mouthwatering acidity. The nose is full of yellow fruit , and the palate likewise, but there is also some green grass and a fantastic acid and just a little hint of bitterness which makes you want to come back for more. (3946 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/15/2012 & rated 80 points: Weekly tasting group #047; Spain (@ BD): Flowers, some citrus, peach and grasses in the bouquet. On the palate the same. Some herbs, lime, and grapefruit, but overall not really convincing. Someone said this must be an off bottle. I am not sure. (1021 views)
Tasted by jenss17 on 9/1/2012: Muy bueno, lots of fine acidity
Very sueffig (4401 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 8/18/2012: Visiting Riscal winery in Elciego.
Simple, classic, sappy.
Loved that bitterness that follows freshness.

Simplota, clásica, sabrosa.
Me gustó ese amargor que sigue a la frescura (2556 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 7/19/2012: Restaurant Casa Marlo, Albacete.
Having a japanese lunch with José Manuel.
Bright yet light lime colour.
Typically Verdejo nose, nothing spectacular anyway.
Refreshing palate to match wasabi.
Just fair.

En Casa Marlo de Albacete en una comida japo con José Manuel.
Color lima brillante aunque ligero.
Típicamente Verdejo en nariz, nada espectacular de todos modos.
Boca refrescante para matar al picante.
Simplemente justita. (1379 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 7/2/2012 & rated 83 points: Weekly tasting group #032; A mixed set of white wines. (@ CvR): Some spiciness, pear, white fruits, tart apple, flowers. Refreshing terrace wine. (1740 views)
Tasted by Higgie on 6/25/2012 & rated 81 points: Good value, but I'd prefer more Body and less acidity (1476 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 6/14/2012 & rated 84 points: Screw cap. The wine was yellow-green in colour. It offered an expressive nose with an intense grapefruit aroma, kiwi, lime, gooseberry, ice bonbon, and grassy notes. On the palate the wine showed grapefruit, lime, gooseberry, pear, some kiwi, and some greenish and steely notes, with medium-level acidity and very good length. The wine seemed a little flabby and lacked structure. I would not exclude that I had mistaken the wine for a Sauvignon Blanc in a blind tasting, but according to the producers its 100% Verdejo. Drink now. (69/84) (1493 views)
Tasted by gven on 4/15/2012 & rated 82 points: Beautifull expressive nose with sweet pine-apple and flowers. The palate is less interesting, not as expressive, green. (1427 views)
Tasted by say66what on 2/29/2012 & rated 82 points: This has been the most famous Verdejo-producer from my recent tastings and I thought that it will bring the best flavors to me as well. However, the taste is greener and less exciting than the "Blume-Verdejo" which stays front runner and half of the price of this. (1447 views)

Verdejo

Verdejo thrives in Northwestern Castile continental climate and gravel soils. The grape gives aromatic wines, often soft with body.
Wines take on a slightly yellowish color, with a youthful, greenish hue. A crisp and fresh white variety with grassy notes, a touch of fruit and excellent level of acidity. The extract, a key factor when assessing the personality of great white wines, is perceived through its volume and its characteristic bitter touch, which leaves a glint of originality in the mouth, accompanied by a rich fruity expression. These wines are harmonious, and their aftertaste invites to go on drinking.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
