Tasted by jimkay21 on 4/11/2016 & rated 87 points: Basic Bordeaux. Not bad, not remarkable (2287 views)
Tasted by Regina on 4/14/2015 & rated 88 points: Nice depth of flavour for the price. This has been my house wine for the last while - I'm sorry to not to have more. (2094 views)
Tasted by MindMuse on 11/13/2012 & rated 87 points: Developing garnet color. Nose of cigar box, ash, baked blackberry, green butter bean, some menthol and camphor. Although it doesn't come across as oaky, it seems more wood driven on the palate and seems somewhat less supple than previously. A bit more of a red fruit feel in the mouth. Better with food. (4743 views)
Tasted by bowmanbc on 11/7/2011 & rated 88 points: yay (5556 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 10/8/2011 & rated 89 points: Clear, medium plus purple with a hint of garnet on the edge. The nose is clean and of medium plus intensity. It reveals black fruit (blackberry and black currant), and some evidence of maturiity (baked fruits, tobacco). The nose is developing. The palate is dry, with medium acidity, alcohol and body. The tannins, flavor intensity and length are medium plus. The palate is consistent with the nose, except that herbal (mint) and pungent spice (liquorice) components predominate. Overall this is a very good wine which drinks well above its price point. Drink now, but has potential for ageing further. (5424 views)
Tasted by MindMuse on 9/26/2011 & rated 88 points: Another good showing. Cigar box, cassis, cedar. Food friendly. Pocketbook friendly. (4252 views)
Tasted by bowmanbc on 7/27/2011 & rated 88 points: seriouslny for $9 this wine is a great steal. earned a spot in our Everyday HOF. (4215 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 7/17/2011 & rated 88 points: Purple with a hint of red on the edge. Beautiful, clean, expressive nose. Blackberry, plum, tobacco, with a hint of floral. The nose is best when the wine is cool, the aromas dissipate rather quickly thereafter. The palate is consistent with the nose. Medium plus acidity; medium bodied; a little thin on the finish. Better when served on the cooler side (60 deg), and with food. A very nice wine for the money. Drink now. (2464 views)
Tasted by bowmanbc on 5/22/2011 & rated 90 points: had with balsamic glazed pork and paired nicely. velvet like texture and a cedar/leather type taste. would buy again. (2693 views)
Tasted by cnorvell on 5/21/2011 & rated 90 points: Great flavor. Very mellow. Looking forward to drinking more. (2756 views)
Tasted by wine&roses on 5/16/2011 & rated 88 points: An honest cru-bourgeois claret. Cigar box, licorice, and a hint of wild cherry on the palatte. No over-extraction; no over-oaking--so it's an everyday pleasure, with its tang of bordelaise terroir. But don't expect grand cru. (2780 views)
Tasted by wine&roses on 4/23/2011 & rated 89 points: Classic claret; lovely. (2828 views)
Tasted by bowmanbc on 2/4/2011 & rated 90 points: I concur (2989 views)
Tasted by ecola on 2/3/2011 & rated 90 points: Tight and tannic, maybe a few more years and this will open up more. There is some dark fruit on the nose with a bit of earthiness. Similar flavors on the palate with gripping tannins on the back end....This really opens up after 5 or so hours into intense red and black fruit. ($19) (2930 views)
Tasted by MindMuse on 1/31/2011 & rated 88 points: Had at a French Wine Society class. I didn't really believe the price until the host shop sold it to me for under $15. Very nice Bdx Sup, great QPR. Buying. (3035 views)
Tasted by bowmanbc on 12/18/2010 & rated 91 points: took a bit to open up but when it did it was fantastic. we made a pan sauce with some of the iwne to pair with a steak and it was awesome. really loved this wine. (3088 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/4/2010: Probably the most aromatically expressive as well as integrated Pezat that I have ever tasted. Drink now, don't wait. (3283 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 8/18/2010: cassis with soft earth in the nose. there is a very nice floral nuance to the nose and the palate. a subtle barrel express on the palate. still showing some rather youthful tannin and that's alright by me. (3317 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 4/8/2009: It is a Led Zepplin influenced label. Grapey, hints of green, and really quite nice at $19. Touches of cinnamon and barrel. (3531 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
