Community Tasting Notes (average 92.7 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 59 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by KVM on 7/9/2023: in fine mature condiditon. Showing tertiary flavours, mainly. (436 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 5/26/2023 & rated 93 points: Served with Scallops Provençal (Ina Garten’s recipe). Deep gold in color. At 14 years, the wine has lost all characteristics of fruit and oak from its youth. Now it is a lucious, elegant smooth elixir. So smooth, elegant and refined. (340 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 9/11/2020 & rated 98 points: Kistler at its best; 11 years old and singing; medium yellow; expressive powerful mineral nose with some lemon; rich full-bodied rounded body with fine balance of acidity, butter and exotic fruit, rich and long aftertaste; has everything going for it (1487 views)
Tasted by agnorger on 10/22/2019 & rated 93 points: Tasty golden delicious apple notes straight out of the orchard off set by some herbaceous lavender and rosemary. Long finish. Mouth coating. Really good for an old chard. (1638 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 1/6/2019 & rated 90 points: EG donated this to an Itaian dinner my friends hosted.

Ripe stone fruit, some organic earth notes. Butter, cream, cocont, vanilla. Really nice right now; but don't age it any more. (1339 views)
Tasted by agnorger on 12/10/2018 & rated 87 points: This was flat and flabby. Not up to the Kistler I know. Really not very good. It was kept at cellar temp since I got it. Drink now. (1662 views)
Tasted by RickyT12 on 10/3/2018 & rated 94 points: Nice crispy flavors. Crisp Apple, a little carbonation, yeast on nose, slight vanilla, acid is still good. I would say this particular bottle could still do more years. Great wine. (1945 views)
Tasted by MuskokaWC on 5/20/2018 & rated 93 points: The last bottle I tried was over the hill and I couldn't even drink it. This bottle however, from the same shipment, was fabulous. Very balanced, with secondary characteristics dominating. Citrus on the nose, nuanced vanilla, banana on the palate. Light golden color. Just the way aged chardonnay should be. (1421 views)
Tasted by MuskokaWC on 5/8/2018: I love the Kistler wines from this vineyard, but this one is beyond its drinking window unless you have a strong affinity for old chards. (1323 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 11/25/2017 flawed bottle: Over the hill (1431 views)
Tasted by Keeping It Real on 11/14/2017 & rated 94 points: This is quite possibly the best Chardonnay I've tried to date, but I haven't tried much. Shout out to All Is Whale for having tried this with me.

Two things that stood out: 1) Extra smooth with 0 hard edges; and 2) Nice buttery finish with fine oak, similar to a high-end Napa Cab. All in all this was worth the money. (1467 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 10/6/2017 & rated 94 points: Simply beautiful, mineral driven graceful Chard. Medium weight, nice balance and growing subtlety. Butterscotch, tropical fruits, and minerals. Drink now - as good as it’s going to get. (1220 views)
Tasted by kreuter on 11/21/2016: Outstanding (487 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 6/25/2016 & rated 93 points: Got tons of tropical fruit, lemon zest and wet stone on this - touches of oaky vanilla on the finish. No mistaking this for what it is, big California chard, but an excellent example of the style. (2452 views)
Tasted by pdemaio on 6/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Time to drink these, they have rounded into shape and are heading past.
PDQ93 (2277 views)
Tasted by NY Wino on 1/11/2016 & rated 95 points: Golden color, big nose of tropical fruit and burnt caramel. The wine is very big, mouth coating with a lot of Apple and pear along with good acidity and a long finish. Drinking beautifully right now. (2363 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 9/11/2015 & rated 93 points: Light golden color; fresh flinty nose, exotic fruit; nice, refreshing well-tasting, good rounded aftertaste; very pleasant (2885 views)
Tasted by Fullhouse on 7/26/2015 & rated 91 points: Drinking as expected. Not sure I would keep these much longer - 08's were a disappointment over time. (3026 views)
Tasted by TonyKolish on 8/30/2014 & rated 89 points: Meh. (2587 views)
Tasted by wpd on 9/22/2013 & rated 92 points: Excellent wine. Drank after a Dutton 09 and 10. Both outstanding. This was not quite as big. Medium yellow, citrus, minerals on the palate. (3473 views)
Tasted by cellar.dweller on 8/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Heavy mouthfeel with creamy texture. Nose has a nutty characteristic with hints of pear and green apple. Nice round finish with layers of flavor. (2283 views)
Tasted by asaselzer on 11/26/2012 & rated 94 points: Beautiful. Showed really well last night. (4803 views)
Tasted by markydecker on 11/22/2012 & rated 95 points: Chablisean, powerful aroma of crushed stones, lemon oil, fresh cut flowers. Delicious. This is right in my wheelhouse but it's my last bottle:(( (3729 views)
Tasted by oeno1820 on 11/20/2012 & rated 89 points: Beautifully polished and sparkling, like a diamond, but, unfortunately, tastes like one as well. (3086 views)
Tasted by Double D on 10/28/2012 & rated 94 points: Complex for a chard, good acidity and mineral content...but no one talks about the dominant fruit...doesn't seem to be one...but unmistakeably a chard. (2860 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
