Tasted by lkilpio on 3/29/2024 & rated 96 points: This full-bodied and massive wine is in a great and balanced phase at the moment: the lush fruitiness is still there, but the tannins have softened and integrated. The taste is very rich, deep and captivating, providing alluring notes of ripe blackberries, blueberries, plums, tar and herbs. As a whole, the wine is really enjoyable now. I am not sure, if it will still get better; the answer likely depends on how mature Rhône wines you just prefer to drink. (553 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 2/12/2024 & rated 94 points: Always one of our favorite CNdP (1007 views)
Tasted by Zorg on 1/13/2024: Coravin. Big and bold with sweet dark red fruit. On the nose, blind I would have guessed a port. Garrigue, smoked blueberries with an alcoholic sting. Not really my style but like it anyway. 91 p. (1097 views)
Tasted by KimHartman on 1/6/2024 & rated 94 points: Dark fruit, licorice, smokey BBQ sauce. Very concentrated, a bit hot but it works. Massive! (1057 views)
Tasted by Fugu Me on 10/25/2023: Remaining half of a coravined bottle. Served cool, this did not display alc heat that others have noted. Rich and layered, this was well balanced and gorgeous. Still showing primary fruits and a bit of tannic grip, there is plenty of time to allow further development. (1737 views)
Tasted by awever on 10/15/2023 & rated 96 points: Viel besser geht es kaum, jetzt schon perfekt und noch viel vor sich, 100 PP nebenbei (1451 views)
Tasted by Handy1 on 5/28/2023 & rated 96 points: From magnum popped and poured. Nice dark fruit some spice. Not overly hot. Drinking very well with some unobtrusive tannins with the finish (2109 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 4/29/2023 & rated 90 points: Reynaud Tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Spiegelau Universal
All wines tasted blind/blind, opened a few hours before and decanted right before the tasting.
Clear, deep ruby color -> Pirate.
Bold, fat, dark fruity nose.
On the palate very dense, deep, warm, dark fruit, sweet cherries, spices, hot, overextracted, massive. Creamy texture. Long, hot finish. Will this still existing baby fat ever melt down? This is certainly a very well made wine but never 100+ at the moment. Potential? I don't know? 89-90 (2280 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 1/27/2023 & rated 94 points: Heady nose of baked blue and blackberry cobbler with black plum reduction, herb de Provence and spice. Very full-bodied, rich and alcoholic. This singes the nose hairs and burns the palate. There is blueberry reduction, blackberry jam with an assortment of herbs on the palate. Spicy. This is still moderately tannic with good acidity. This could probably use another few years in bottle to shed some tannin and reach full maturity. That said, it's quite a mouthful right now. Drink now-2035 94 (2448 views)
Tasted by randyjc on 11/21/2022 & rated 94 points: This wine is in a stage where it openly exhibits its flaws - and it has them. Way hopped up alcohol, prevalent on the nose and in the mouth and contributing to a finish that is chopped off by a metallic end note along with the fine-grained tannins. The nose is spicy with charcoal and licorice notes. In the mouth and up until the finish, the wine is flatly fantastic - smoky, charred blackberry and macerated black cherry. Notes of fig and carob. The finish is fine for about ten seconds and then it just goes sideways - closing up with what I described as the taste of metal. Unpleasant. I think this would show ever so much better with really big food - heavily marbled beef steak, a pork roast with roasted vegetables, even something like beef bourguignon. That might help with the finish and let the wine strut a bit. Note to self - don’t drink this without food ever again. Tasted alongside a 2010 Beaucastel, fantastic by the way, in a blind Zoom tasting. My tasting partner nailed both wines to year and producer - an impressive showing for tasters at our decidedly amateur level. (2526 views)
Tasted by Motz on 11/20/2022 & rated 94 points: Pulled the cork on the bottle tasted by Coravin in August and October.

Served at a cooler temperature, about 60F, 16C, which kept the alcohol at bay.

Bouquet of sous-bois, moss, peat, sarsaparilla, worn leather, fig preserves, dates, savory herbs, tobacco, and cured meats.

Highly appealing flavors and substance. Seemingly fully resolved. Indeed, regardless of this wine's press, holding bottles beyond 2025 seems risky. Alcohol came forward as the wine warmed, dominating the experience. (2923 views)
Tasted by bobadopolis on 11/9/2022 & rated 94 points: Smith Dinner, 11/05/22

Decanted 3 hours prior to consumption. Smooth, balanced, with fine unobtrusive tannin structure. Enjoyed by all. Can drink now with decant, but suspect the best years lay ahead. If I had another bottle, would target 2025-2035.

Tasted by Motz on 10/19/2022 & rated 94 points: Another Coravin pour, from the bottle accessed in August.

Paired with a lean beef pot roast and potatoes. Outstanding flavors! Otherwise, alcohol really stood out! Wow! This wine requires heavily marbled meats and other fats. It seems the alcohol overpowers all else. Beware of cellaring for much longer. (2969 views)
Tasted by Motz on 8/11/2022 & rated 95 points: Coravin pour. First chilled and let to sit for about a half hour, then tasted over an hour or so.

Enticing and delicious sense of place, featuring distinctive sweet-savory elements, of noteworthy tug and pull. Indeed, slightly 'sweeter' than is typical of quality CdP, probably influenced by glycerin notes.

The bouquet and profile presented Medjool dates, fig paste, raisins, carob, 'sweet' umami, and savory herbs, all of which begged for lamb or flame-seared, slow roasted pork.

There is a downside. As the wine warmed, the alcohol presented its flames...and they were HOT!!! When tasting this in 2016, I had hoped that the wine would add weight to match the alcohol. It seems that the substance has softened into that appealing sweet-savoriness, which allows this flamethrower to strut its alcy at the back and on the finish.

Likely evolving, but also softening. No reason not to drink now, or in five to seven years, with a well marbled cut of meat and generously herbed vegetables. The alcohol burn prevents me from scoring this above 95 points. (3034 views)
Tasted by peter.mancell@mfg.com.au on 5/20/2022 & rated 96 points: Lovely CNdP.
Great fruit.
Glorious texture. (2582 views)
Tasted by BLam on 5/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Happy Labor Day! After one month shutdown of Shanghai, we all wished the pandemic would be ended shortly. It’s my second bottle from the 12. The wine was still very young to consume. A very high alcohol content of 15.5%. We should decant it longer. (2510 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 4/23/2022 & rated 95 points: From Magnum. Opened 2 hours. Color is garnet/purple. On the nose: Plum, cassis, sour cherry funk and some barnyard. On the palate: Dark chocolate, licorice, plum, baking spices, cassis and herbs. Very rich , dense and well integrated. Decadent wine. (2555 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 4/20/2022 & rated 93 points: Dark, young, primary with anise, blk plum, macerated cherry, big tannins, round, hot but still balanced, gycerin, black and red berries, with coffee/espresso; very concentrated, this will have a good life ahead of it. Try again in 3-5 years. Lawry's DD CdP dinner. (2323 views)
Tasted by dbg on 12/28/2021: Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Double decanted 3 hours before serving, drunk over 3-4 hours. Dark red to rim. Forward nose blasts forth with blackberry/raspberry. Full body, layers of very ripe/glossy fruit, avoids being cloying with enough acidity for good balance, long finish. No aged complexity. Excellent.

Very modern, quite the contrast with the 2010 Jamet. Clearly preferred by the California-philes in the group while the classicists clearly preferred the Jamet. No surprise there. (2965 views)
Tasted by skifree on 12/4/2021 flawed bottle: Wet cardboard - darn (2786 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 11/15/2021 & rated 98 points: BBQ nose, strawberries, nice minerality... Super silky tannin, loads of ripe strawberries, length of 45 seconds. (3027 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 10/29/2021: This seduces with its violette pastille, lavender, sugar dusted blackberry and sweet smoke bouquet; frankly you could simply nose the 2010 VV and feel amply rewarded with its aromas, like human catnip. While creamy, velvety and opulent on the palate, there's a tart red currant twang that mixes with a bump of acidity and inner herbal tones to create wonderful contrasts that leave a lasting impression. Yes it's structured, and frankly I wish I had another five, not ONE, in the cellar, but still--the pleasure factor on this now is totally off the charts. Bury deep if you only have one or two, or indulge if you have a case. (3558 views)
Tasted by Vandelaar on 9/25/2021 & rated 95 points: To be honest, me and two others bought this wine because we wanted to drink an 100pp wine to find out what RP thinks is the absolute summum in wine, the perfect score.

a three hour decant brings a intriguing smokey note, like warm ash on a bbq. Red to darker fruits combined with herbs.
On the very wide palate there is intense focussed fruits, jammy intense without being too jammy, mocca, licorice, earthiness and the whole bunch of southern French garique spreads out in the mouth. We all found that the wine was completely mouth coating touching and caressing every taste bud. Acidity levels are good and counterbalance the intense fruit.
There is only one disturbing element which keeps this wine for me far from the perfect score and that is the 15,5% alcohol which is there and can't be ignored. It burns in the mouth and gives the wine a heavy and bit clumsy feel.
with a 1,5% less this wine would for me be amongst the best ever but it now ends up in the sub-top: Very good to outstanding.
TO finish with the finish; I can still taste last evenings last sip. endless... (2859 views)
Tasted by skifree on 8/9/2021 & rated 93 points: Agree with recent tasting notes that this is drinking beautifully. Still notice the alcohol on the nose, but in the mouth it is a melange of black fruit, dried herb, and minerality that gives a nice balance to the wine. (3077 views)
Tasted by malbrecht on 7/7/2021 & rated 93 points: This is a deep and dark wine, with layers of flavors hidden within its depths. It opens with dark fruit, blackberries, cassis, and maybe some plum before transitioning to notes of garrigue, dark chocolate, and tapenade. It feels like this needs more time to me. It is obviously well-crafted, but some of the secondary notes are still hiding behind the fruit and the alcohol (15.5% ABV). But it seems structurally sound. Will try and revisit in 5+ years. Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
