Tasted by bibendumrrb on 5/6/2023 & rated 98 points: Does it get better? Wow! (393 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 4/4/2023 & rated 95 points: Wine gathering at RJ's; 4/4/2023-4/7/2023 (South Carolina): Expressive nose displaying “cultish” ripe black fruit with a hint of red, crème de cassis, blueberry jam, blackberry concentrate, cherry pie, strong vanilla/oak and caramel, mocha, espresso bean, dark spices and earth. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich and intense, medium acidity, earthy mineral, and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish with mocha and oak at the end. This is a big scale wine showing luxurious oak. (1255 views)
Tasted by Glenn228 on 10/29/2022: Disappointing. Suppressed on the nose and palate. Saved some to try the next day. Will update.

Day 2: Improved, but still could have the tannins mellow and fruit emerge. Maybe another day would have helped but I don’t want to wait 3 days for a wine to be drinkable. Going to shift the drinking window +2 or 3 years and sit on the remaining bottles. (478 views)
Tasted by Ridavids on 8/28/2022: Deep Dark and Delicious, a well rounded succulent wine. From the appearance of darkness a well rounded nose with dark fruit, vanilla a gently loamy notes. The wine dank superb supple soft and smooth, dark cassis and hints of cocoa, dark leather and good balance. (513 views)
Tasted by Hamersly on 7/23/2020 & rated 94 points: Classic notes of dark fruit and cassis on the nose and palette, with a bit of vanilla and a welcome streak of minerality. A beautiful wine that's just now hitting its stride. (1609 views)
Tasted by Tonythefish on 12/31/2019 & rated 94 points: Vanilla, dark fruits and some earthiness. Medium viscosity, deep red color and tannins that have relaxed. A treat for those who like 10 year aged Napa cab. Fruit is there but takes a backseat to the nose the wine has. 40 second finish (1352 views)
Tasted by jkvedar on 11/9/2019 & rated 94 points: The whole experience with this wine at this point in time is the mouth feel. Nose is mostly dark fruits, some vanilla. Palate is exceptional with silky tannins dominating. Really long finish. (1352 views)
Tasted by jkvedar on 9/27/2019 & rated 92 points: Showing well now. Vanilla, plum, blackberry, graphite one nose. Baking spice, dark fruits on the palate. Long fruits on the palate (1285 views)
Tasted by jkvedar on 12/26/2018 & rated 94 points: 2+ hours decant. Dust, minerals, well-balanced palate. Minerality concentrated on the finish. (1539 views)
Tasted by jkvedar on 6/2/2018 & rated 94 points: Beautiful wine. Incredibly elegant and refined. Alluring nose of graphite, dark fruits. Well-balanced on the palate. Long finish. (1115 views)
Tasted by jimyeni on 4/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Tasting in Napa during Campovelo cycling; 4/27/2018-4/30/2018 (Napa, CA): Cherry, strawberry, sweet tobacco, plum, still a baby with a chewy and slight bitterness on the finish. This is a big wine that will get better with age. (1519 views)
Tasted by Vinacull on 8/10/2017 & rated 91 points: Aerate through screen to decanter, mild sediment, went to dinner. Color deep red replete with black hues, opaque, full body. Initial bouquet was restrained if not brooding. Returning 2.5 hours later, fairly expressive aromas of black truffle, volcanic soil, cardamom, white pepper and cinnamon/cedar with dark fruits of ripe cassis, black plum, and some blackberries swirling in the background. Overall a great bouquet but the group agreed this was easily the most earthy of the 5 Barrett reds consumed in the last two days, seemed reminiscent of Right Bank Bordeaux. The same was true on taste, fairly smooth entry, some telltale Barrett layers, foreground shades of rich earth, high grade chocolate, dark drying spice, and graphite with rich cassis, black plums and blackberries percolating underneath. Feeling a twinge of harshness in the midpalate. Medium acid and polished sweet tannins add both firmness and in this case and impression of sweetness to a decidedly drier profile. A very long 1 minute plus finish with an extraordinary aftertaste of earthy goodness that carries on for minutes and leaves you salivating for steak. We drank this alongside the '09 Le Bearitage over a four hour period, and both were outstanding throughout. The difference with this Cab was that it just seemed to be getting better and better with more air, and to my surprise seemed to be revealing more fruit toward the end of the night than the beginning. Perhaps in peak now and will easily go another dozen years, but I wonder how prominently the fruit will show by then. (1630 views)
Tasted by Ajnate on 2/18/2017: What a wonderful bottle of wine. Decanted for over an hour. Dark plummy fruits with solid but not overpowering tannins. Long finish and although still quite young delicious and balanced (to a point). Plenty of time left but would open again in a second it was so well made and so enjoyable. Elegant, compelling nose. (1476 views)
Tasted by jeffm_fla on 1/30/2016 & rated 90 points: A nice wine which I think will continue to evolve. A lot of old school herbaceous flavors with an elegant structure, but not really my style. This is a wine I wanted to love, but only like. One bottle left, will probably wait a couple more years. (1674 views)
Tasted by jeffm_fla on 2/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Subdued; not a big showy cabernet. Probably needs some time and more air than I gave it. Nice wine, but I will give it a couple years before opening another bottle. (3297 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
