Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Tjmayne on 5/3/2015 & rated 95 points: Last bottle, and am I sorry. Gave it very little decanting. Tannins are perfectly integrated - very smooth, lively moth feel. Red fruit, but not bright, more like slightly desiccated and concentrated. This was a joy to drink! I guess it's on to the 2005s. (202 views)
Tasted by nrickman on 12/7/2014 & rated 88 points: Not as good as the last bottle. This was the last one in my cellar. I was hoping for better given my last experience. Very acidic when I first opened but definitely smoothed out - almost tart. Not as fruity as previous bottles. High alcohol content. Decent bottle. (422 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 11/26/2014 & rated 75 points: Very dark ruby - purple is gone but there is very little lightening towards rim. Rugged color. A good whiff of VA on the nose overpowers rich red fruits and ink. Medium bodied, there is a real richness to this wine. However, the palate is a bit disjointed with a bitter finish. There is also a green note. The VA really hurts this bottle. (75) (472 views)
Tasted by Pvinbrock on 8/23/2014 & rated 93 points: Had along side a 1998 Insignia. For the price it held up really well. Drinking perfect now. Wish I had more. (607 views)
Tasted by DaninClearwater on 5/7/2013 & rated 91 points: very smooth, integrated flavors. Tannins gone (1355 views)
Tasted by nrickman on 1/10/2013 & rated 94 points: Absolutely wonderful! Almost Chewy, tons of fruit, well balanced. Great with food or by itself. Best I can remember this bottle. (1474 views)
Tasted by SCWineDrinker on 5/13/2012 & rated 90 points: Received as a gift and finally opened for a nice dinner with my wife. Very good at the first glass and kept opening until the last. The wine was mature which gave it some silkiness without too much bite. Not an enormously big wine but very nice complexity and nice fruit notes. (1645 views)
Tasted by Ben Paquet on 8/27/2011 & rated 89 points: A friend brought this for dinner (Duck confit with its Magret served on a Orange and honey sauce.)

Color: Still bright but with some orange at the rim

Nose: Complex, cedar, sweet plum and cherry, liquorice

Palate: This fully mature cabernet is soft and silky. it shows sweet plum and cherry, dusty red fruits, liquorice...ending with medium silky tannin

Good wine ! Fun to try when comparing to Grand-puy Lacoste 2003 (which I preferred)

Tasted by Kevdog on 5/14/2011 & rated 89 points: Should have decanted, but not worth the $$ (1909 views)
Tasted by eden93 on 6/1/2008 & rated 94 points: Fantastic. Strong tannins, strong berries. Lush. (2291 views)
Tasted by polimeri on 12/25/2007 & rated 92 points: Dark black cherry and cedar box. Had with Christmas leftovers. Finish is green pepper medium tannins. They are slighly sour. Looks like this one is ready to drink. Not sure I would pay $45 again for this one, but it was enjoyable. (2319 views)
Tasted by hcampana on 9/9/2007 flawed bottle: Full ruby color. The nose is foul. Dominated by a fermentation reminding CO2 and yeasty nose. The palate offers some cold steel and lower acidity than the 2002 Unfirltered Merlot. The nose ruins this wine’s fairly attractive density and palate. Flawed. NR. (2306 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
