Tasted by dmitchell4 on 7/24/2015 & rated 90 points: Time to drink up. (968 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 7/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Nose, fruit all still there (887 views)
Tasted by lebo on 5/31/2015 & rated 84 points: blah. Not sure why. Old? Bottle variation? Bad night for my palate? (951 views)
Tasted by BMorelli on 2/22/2015 & rated 91 points: Understandably slow to open. Floral on the nose with a real nice berry finish. (1279 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 2/18/2015 flawed bottle: Corked. (1080 views)
Tasted by Mscruggs on 12/6/2014 & rated 90 points: Nice red fruit on the palate but not a very complex finish, almost seemed a little "thin". We opened up a 2006 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast right and it seemed to overwhelm the WS. (901 views)
Tasted by grumi62 on 11/12/2014 & rated 89 points: was good but turning brown already, drink up (948 views)
Tasted by BGK810 on 8/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Raspberry, strawberry, cherry with a but of earth and some pleasant vanilla. Very rich and tasty. (1174 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 4/24/2014 & rated 91 points: red, orange, in the color. black cherry, raspberry, earth, spice, mineral, on the nose. light body, high acid, low-medium tannins, on the finish. (617 views)
Tasted by grapist on 12/5/2013: Didn't give it time to breath and open. (1899 views)
Tasted by Jonathan T on 10/18/2013 & rated 89 points: This a delicate, very elegant pinot noir. Stylistically, it's not going to offend anyone, but probably not wow anyone either. At this price point, I don't mind if the pinot makes a statement and is slightly controversial. The nose and palate are filled with bright red bruits fruits but is not hugely complex. Very soft and silky mouthfeel. It's clearly showing some age, but has not developed any secondary, more earthy qualities. It does have sufficient acidity consistent with the W-S style. I have to say though, that this was a delicious food pairing with a pan-seared roasted salmon. (1784 views)
Tasted by timdrex on 8/7/2013 & rated 91 points: Nice notes of cherry, strawberry. Fruit is present but restrained. Slightly lacking in brightness that would probably push the score up another couple of points, but overall a very good pinot. To me it expresses the area's terroir quite well. (1920 views)
Tasted by JS199 on 4/18/2013 & rated 92 points: Solid but didn't have the 'wow' factor. I guess my expectations were too high given the price and ST rating. (2111 views)
Tasted by mwinterod on 4/16/2013 & rated 94 points: Outstanding! Beautiful cranberry color with bright fruit and nice acid balance. This is not your earthy Pinot, and that is not a complaint. (1832 views)
Tasted by Sternmat on 4/14/2013 & rated 93 points: Great representation of the vintage. Pure Pinot flavor - berries mixed with earth. Great structure and long finish. Drink now. Not getting better (1247 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 4/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Garnet color with some transparency. Cinnamon, cherry and earth aromas. Cherry, strawberry, and cranberry flavors with cinnamon and vanilla. Good balance with shorter finish. (1055 views)
Tasted by djarcara on 3/24/2013 & rated 93 points: Ready to drink. Showing a bit of age and strikes a nice balance between fruit and restraint. At it's peak. Light to Medium body with nose of cinnamon and cola with flavors of strawberry and cranberry. (1026 views)
Tasted by levinml on 1/26/2013 & rated 91 points: Drank at annual birthday dinner after champagne, before big boys. Nice, easy drinking, rounded flavors, well balanced. Not spectacular, but good. (1054 views)
Tasted by mcook on 12/24/2012 & rated 89 points: Consistent with what others have said - wonderful nose of cherry, vanilla, cola. Ripe red fruits in the thin palate leading to a short slightly acidic finish. A good wine, but relative to the price and previous Williams Selyem offerings, was underwhelmed by this one. (989 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 12/7/2012: China King. Classic cherry and cola nose. Very well-made and enjoyed by all. Good match for Peking Duck. (1101 views)
Tasted by fwota on 12/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Typical(ly great) Williams Selyem pinot. Mid- to strong-bodied (for a pinot), pleasant fruit and earth balance with some cranberry notes, a hint of smoke and just a touch of spice with a pleasant, albeit not super long finish. Drinking very well right now. Even better after a brief decanting. (1130 views)
Tasted by underwds on 12/2/2012 & rated 89 points: Bright and floral, cherry and raspberry fruit. A little thin on the palate, but all the over-the-top CA Pinots may have shifted my scale. Good acidity makes it a pretty good food wine: the lightness was good with our leftover turkey.

3/26/13 Same general impression as last time, but it did rock out the Cornish game hens we had for dinner. Probably deserves a higher score as a food wine. (919 views)
Tasted by JB in SD on 12/2/2012 & rated 88 points: Nice nose, but palate did not deliver. There was little to no complexity. It was all red fruit, and a bit thin and hollow. Drinkable, but disappointing. (1113 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 10/6/2012 & rated 89 points: This light weight tasty RRV drink is probably at peak. Fragrant and floral on the nose, "chocolate covered cherries" and oak. On the palate it's much lighter, but balanced and lively. As noted by some, finish is a bit astringent and short.

Recent reviews have been over the top, but then these guys have always had a bit of a cult following, and if you are part of the "in crowd" you have an image and reputation to protect! It's pretty good, but no where near as nice as recent reviewers would have you believe.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with just being "pretty good". At current prices to buy this bottle you may not agree with me, but then that shows you are just not part of the cult....... (1336 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Austria, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.
