This was good as usual, not the powerhouse that it was 12 to 24 months ago. Still delivers well with tropical fruit, oak, apple, pineapple, peach, butter toffee. It is not quite as vibrant, and my sense though is that this has crested and is now on a slow decline. I'd drink these sooner rather that later, but I think they will satisfy for another 2 years. A little slower to full emerge, the nose develops over 20 minutes or so. The nose has pineapple, oak, apple, and orange blossoms. The palate is full bodied, deep, apple, lemon, pineapple, tangerine, mildly buttery, oak, spices. Medium plus finish. 92+ to 93pts. Needed time to fully show. (1253 views)|

It was light yellow gold, a little fruit forward with pineapple, melon, peach and a hint of vanilla. Mid-palate, as it was coating my taste buds, was a little oak and soft butter with a little velvet and nicely balanced. It was full bodied with a medium to long finish. We had it with salmon & Ahi Tuna at River Oaks Grille in Memphis. (842 views)|

John Shafer and his family founded Shafer Vineyards, located in the Stags Leap District of the Napa Valley, in 1979. From the Shafers' first wine, a 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon,
their wines have won much acclaim. Today, the Shafers farm 200 acres of vineyard in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Oak Knoll regions. Their flagship wine, Hillside Select,
is produced from selected blocks of the family's hillside vineyards and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. They also produce Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay, Merlot, One Point Five
(Cabernet Sauvignon) and Relentless (a Syrah/Petite Sirah blend), which was named #1 wine of the year by Wine Spectator's "Top 100" of 2012.
