Community Tasting Notes (average 85.9 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 29 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by SavorStudy on 9/17/2012 & rated 90 points: Lemon, lychee, pineapple aroma.
Lemon and floral flavor, with slightly oily vanilla base.
Medium acid with long, crisp finish.

A truly interesting, complex and lovely wine. Delish with seafood pasta, or even a mustard-crusted pork loin. Would also hold well with a cheese plate. (4818 views)
Tasted by Beernut on 6/18/2011 & rated 87 points: Slightly sweet. Nice honey and fruit. (6356 views)
Tasted by Mike Kopanski on 4/29/2011 & rated 85 points: Compared to the prototypical Oregon Pinot Gris, this one may be a little more brisk and one dimensional. We expect them to be sharp and well defined, and this is no exception to that, but may be a little lacking in the fruit department. This one probably is a touch less complex and more acidic. It makes your mouth pucker pretty bad, as the acid raises straight to the top of the mouth, leading me to believe it lacks some of the structure necessary to hold it together deeper into the palate. I don't think there is any malolactic fermentation. Completely stainless. More high handed acid on the finish. (6293 views)
Tasted by carlturcotte on 1/8/2011 & rated 88 points: great with fresh truite topped with mango-peach salsa (6640 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 10/8/2010 & rated 79 points: Melon and apple nose, hints of white flowers and citrus on the palate, short dry finish. (6921 views)
Tasted by Mythlogic on 9/4/2010 & rated 86 points: First Pinot Gris. Nothing to compare against. Not much nose. Hint of lemon.Low acid on the palette, lemon, some spice.Did not feel dry. Good balance. Decent finish.Again first Pinot Gris so I can't compare to others.
I guess for the price not bad. (3526 views)
Tasted by Ron Van Holland on 8/6/2010 & rated 88 points: Not usually a pinot gris fan, I ordered "Acrobat" (by the glass) as the chef recommendation, with a shrug. Really liked the wine. Came home and found it was King Estate, with a nod: I had been impressed previously with King Estate PG Signature. I did not take notes except to note my contentment, how well Acrobat went with my halibut, and to buy for my cellar. (3475 views)
Tasted by hutch on 7/15/2010 & rated 88 points: 7/15/10: Soft, apples and pears. Medium bodied. Very good, and a nice value. 87-88

1/22/10: Very tasty stuff, with that signature Oregon richness. I'm a sucker their Pinot Gris' and this is no exception. Apples and pears. Clean. Very good. 88 (4339 views)
Tasted by Klochner on 7/7/2010 & rated 83 points: Citrus with a slightly bitter finish (3622 views)
Tasted by ribold on 7/2/2010 & rated 85 points: Decent, understated pinot gris. Hints of citrus and medium acidity. Slightly bitter finish. Good wine for the value but not a truly memorable Oregon pinot gris. (3657 views)
Tasted by bbqtom on 6/25/2010: Nice drinkable Pinot Gris for the price. Hint of fruits (3869 views)
Tasted by jnmcdonald@gmail.com on 6/25/2010 & rated 86 points: We enjoyed. Could serve to guests. Not sweet or fruity (3670 views)
Tasted by stercomm on 6/20/2010 & rated 89 points: Same notes as before, ladies drank at yesterday's cookout, they must have liked it as they went through 3 bottles. A very nice citrusy wine with balanced acid, good summer quaffer, not real demanding does show up for the game and contribute a strong effort. (3693 views)
Tasted by stercomm on 5/30/2010 & rated 89 points: Same notes as before, ladies drank at daughter's bridal shower, everyone liked (3756 views)
Tasted by boyajian on 5/16/2010 & rated 89 points: Apricot and Pear on the nose, palate is sweet, not to sweet but really pretty much perfect. I get green apple and pear as it moves through the palate. Finish is acidic and slightly sweet. Very good wine! Highly Impressed by this one, drinks better than most of the Italian pinot grigio's I've tried. (3875 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 5/8/2010 & rated 88 points: Big Reds and Crisp Whites (Farpointe Cellar): The nose was mainly fruit - pear, apple, pineapple, and citrus. It also had a small amount of stone. The palate was also very fruity, just like the nose. The only difference was the finish had some tangerine. (4313 views)
Tasted by The Kokopelli on 3/24/2010 & rated 85 points: Discovering Wine: Pale yellow wine with a light body. The nose is floral with mineral and pear. The taste is citrus with medium acidity. The finish is tart citrus, white grapefruit with OK length decent length for a pinot gris. (4470 views)
Tasted by stercomm on 2/6/2010 & rated 89 points: Very crisp and citrusy, a very nice Pinot Gris for the price. Got lime and grapefruit on the nose, same on the palate with some pears and a very nice minerality to the finish. A very tasty wine. (4162 views)
Tasted by nstange on 1/26/2010 & rated 88 points: Very tasty, fruit juicy yet clean mouth feel -- tasted this one night before opening King Estate Signature Edition Pinot Gris and found it to be quite comparable at a lower price point. (4480 views)
Tasted by Nikk on 1/3/2010 & rated 90 points: Light bodied great tasting wine (4374 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 1/3/2010 & rated 87 points: Very different Pinot Gris. Nice peach aroma and taste, as well as a citrus taste that gave it a Sauvignon Blanc kind of feel. Good value here. (4451 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/9/2009: Drank over two nights, both showed nicely. Fresh apricot, Fuji apple and loamy minerals on the nose with a light toward medium body. Nothing flashy, or overly extracted, just nice fresh citrus notes, good acidity and a refreshing mouthfeel and finish. On night 2, the white peach, lime zest and zingy acidity were front and center - the wine also fleshed out a little. At only 12,5% abv, this is a lovely, balanced and very feminine Pinot Gris. Drink thru 2011. (1462 views)

Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
