Tasted by bsiegSTL on 6/17/2023: Wonderful. Was worried about the age, but drank very well. (336 views)
Tasted by rmarcos on 6/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Paired excellently with white fish. 12 yr old and didn't miss a beat. Took a little time to open up (1199 views)
Tasted by abbotm64 on 5/21/2021: Moved to Sag (1185 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 11/7/2019 & rated 82 points: Fat, oily golden in the glass with slight copper hues. Quite subtle on the nose, offering nothing beyond some weird milky aromas and a bit of tropical fruit. No acidity, no structure. Way past its prime, should have been opened at least two years ago. (1948 views)
Tasted by R Z on 6/21/2016 & rated 91 points: First impression was very favorable. Ripe French melon flavors and immediately approachable. Did not improve noticeably with air. Would recommend drinking soon. Had with fresh-cooked lobster with coral-colored roe. (2895 views)
Tasted by Meneley on 7/12/2015: Ripe citrus notes, smoky nose with a tropical fruit finish. Drink soon. LO (3264 views)
Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 6/28/2015 & rated 90 points: Pale yellow. Nose was Sauvignon blanc but less acidic, citrus in the nose. Taste was smoother than anticipated, citrus in the taste. Good. (2876 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 5/13/2015 & rated 87 points: Deep alcohol on the nose, some funk. Massive viscosity with barrels of oak, paint, tropical fruit and vanilla extract. Little to no acid, flat on palate. How this represents true Sauvignon blanc will always be a mystery to me. Clearly a lot of time and effort put into the wine but stylistically overreaching. Drink now. (2816 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 8/4/2014: This one might have been a bit corky...unfortunately. (3297 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 8/2/2014 & rated 90 points: This was my last bottle and you could tell it was a bit over the hill. This was a brilliant bottle about 18 months ago with a fantastic minerality but still combining zesty fruit flavors. Just waited a bit long to drink this bottle. Drink them if you have them. (2302 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 11/11/2013 & rated 90 points: This is really consistent with previous bottles. Wonderful acidity with a elegant style. Continues to evolve as it is open. I appreciate this wine a touch warmer than most of my Sauv. Blancs as it brings out the fullness and complexity of this wine. Drink now (2366 views)
Tasted by Mark H. LeQuire on 9/26/2013 & rated 94 points: Simply Amazing. (2402 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 9/9/2013: Cheeky little wine that had everyone stumped. Opens with good SB typicity, but moves fairly quickly to a bigger, fuller expression that might easily confuse most. Never goes out of bounds and only introduces a brief volley of tropical and slight honey notes. Very nice, especially with the fried calamari. Drink up. (2865 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 9/4/2013 & rated 91 points: This bottle changes as it opens a great deal as it opens up in the glass. The nose is citrus the mouth continues with the citrus but goes to pears. I really enjoy this bottle. Drink now to 2014 (1920 views)
Tasted by NY Wino on 7/28/2013 & rated 94 points: Drinking beautifully now. Excellent fruit, big bodied Sauvignon blanc (1954 views)
Tasted by Tonythefish on 6/15/2013 & rated 89 points: Nice SB. Too sweet for me, but was nice accompaniment to seafood. Citrus and melon overtones (1578 views)
Tasted by mrmedoes on 12/29/2012 & rated 92 points: One of the top Cali SBs that I've had, along with Quintessa, Merry Edwards and Mondavi To Kalon (which is bottled as fume blanc, so not technically SB). A great drinker that shows what SB can be in the hands of great winemakers. (2188 views)
Tasted by fdub on 11/27/2012 & rated 94 points: Nice melon and barrel ferment richness. Lovely viscosity. Long lingering finish and kiwi aftertaste. A great SB. (2315 views)
Tasted by aof on 11/23/2012 & rated 91 points: Restrained style, just lacking intensity and complexity. (2197 views)
Tasted by jc-mmb on 7/26/2012 & rated 89 points: not my fav bottle of this. nose was very good and full of light fruits and bright aromas. palate was muted compared to other bottles i've had. missed on depth of fruit and really missed on those clean tropical notes that wake the palate. finish was again blunted. not defective, perhaps just an off bottle of sorts. (2544 views)
Tasted by ataraxy on 6/16/2012 & rated 92 points: lovely. very full-bodied for a sauvignon blanc. (2474 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 6/3/2012 & rated 91 points: Lovely light color with pale yellow color and a nice amount of grass and apple on the nose. Has a nice amount of lime, lemon and grassiness in a very serious mineral finish (2220 views)
Tasted by MJTed on 5/24/2012 & rated 91 points: Last bottle. Still great. Thick for and SB but showing pure fruit and a complex finish. (2128 views)
Tasted by NEwino on 2/17/2012 & rated 91 points: As others have said I would have to agree that this is one of the most unique Sauvignon Blancs that I have had. It is extremely complex with muted citrus and pear. The nose had a wonderful smell of rich butterscotch that had me very interested from the start. I really enjoyed this wine as a change of pace but it is a very different and complex type of Sauvignon Blanc that may not appeal to some. (2599 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 1/21/2012 & rated 91 points: Probably the most unique Sauvignon Blanc I have had. Very complex and coy with muted citrus, some tropical notes and hazelnut influences. Richness evident with vanilla, tropical fruits with limited acidity. Round and delicious with melon and floral qualities. Wow! Would have never guessed this varietal for some reason. (2722 views)

Peter Michael

Producer website

The Peter Michael Winery is the California outpost of British-born Sir Peter Michael who has shown a Midas touch for selecting brilliant winemakers, including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, Luc Morlet and more recently Luc’s brother, Nicolas. The consistency of these offerings from the cool climate hillside vineyards in Knight’s Valley and the Sonoma Coast has been respected and cherished by each of these winemakers... All things considered, Peter Michael is one of the reference point wineries in California.

2009 Peter Michael Sauvignon Blanc L'Apres-Midi

Winemaker's Tasting Notes:
Very intense and multi-layered, the bouquet is dominated by forest spring flowers, honeysuckle, lily, acacia, orange blossom, with white peach, lemon, lime, William pear, grapefruit, honey, minerals. The rich and delicate, zesty flavors follow seamlessly from the aroma. Layered, elegant and very long, the estate’s signature wet stone minerality balances the richness lending a superb refinement to the finish. Build to age, the 2009 L’Après-Midi is already revealing itself as a superb expression our estate’s terroir.

Sauvignon Blanc

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
