Tasted by CU on 3/15/2024 & rated 94 points: Great wine. I’d say this more mid stride than fading. (340 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 2/24/2024 & rated 94 points: This is a terrific bottle of wine. I have 2024 down as the last year in the drink window. One bottle left. While the wine does not show any signs of tiring, I will likely drink the last bottle later this year. It used to require a decant. This bottle was just opened for an hour and a half.....did not need a decant. Warning.......the cork broke in half. (491 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 1/18/2024 & rated 94 points: Open for about 30 minutes followed by a one and a half hour decant. Still drinking very well. No signs of it tiring. (618 views)
Tasted by Bluethunder on 11/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Drinking really well. A rich full bodied cabernet within lots of lush dark fruit, spice, cassis, soft tannins with velvety smooth finish. (710 views)
Tasted by doug374 on 11/17/2023 & rated 95 points: Excellent wine with a Chile poco carne meal. Smooth like a velvet glove with a firm hold on the fruit, mineral and earth tones that run through this wine. Tannins only showed by holding it together, this was a sleek and pleasurable glass to the end. (625 views)
Tasted by napasoutherner on 2/22/2023 & rated 87 points: Way too grape-y! (1226 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 1/11/2023 & rated 93 points: Enjoyed subsequent to the 2010 Shafer Hillside Select. Although not quite as deep and rich as the Hillside, this is an outstanding wine. Displays a plethora of black fruits, wonderful balance, very good complexity, and a long finish. Perfect for the grilled ribeyes. Drink through 2030. (1248 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 11/13/2022 & rated 94 points: In the bouquet ripe dark berries, sweet spices, red berries, eucalyptus, sweet licorice. Same on the palate, chocolate, beautiful acidity and round tannin with a lovely bite. Some pleasant sweetness as well. Beautiful and delicious wine in its early maturity stage. (1460 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 7/13/2022 & rated 90 points: Anniversary tradition continues. We opened another bottle of our wedding wine to celebrate the day.

The blue fruit notes are in full swing and the glycerin is starting to back off with more herb and mineral notes coming through at this point. The Abv is starting to show, so I recommend a quick decant and starting drinking before the fruit drops further. (1776 views)
Tasted by alhun on 1/31/2022 & rated 93 points: a good new world wine, full of black currant initially with smooth tannin, then it's growing with vanilla, later slight mint and then give out dry plum.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), vanilla and mint. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity. (1895 views)
Tasted by yasha on 7/29/2021 & rated 94 points: Great! (2158 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 7/14/2021 & rated 93 points: Nose: big black cherry nose with some wet stone, herbs and plum candy notes. Palate: Seamless and perfectly integrated tannin, black fruit, glycerin, leather and just a touch of thyme. Heat pokes out a bit on the back palate. Finish: lengthy and dark.

PNP for full enjoyment now. Best bottle of this yet. Served this at our wedding and kept a case to enjoy at anniversaries. Happy anniversary to my wife! (2354 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 6/1/2021 & rated 93 points: My 3rd bottle in under 60 days. Same tasting notes as before. Enjoyable, dark berries, and full bodied. Shafer always hits the spot and the 2010 has held up well for a 2nd wine. (1884 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 4/11/2021 & rated 92 points: More or less consistent with previous tasting note, although this bottle was noticeably more tannic than our bottle from five years ago, which surprised me. Hard to know which of the two bottles is representative, but another five years in the cellar can't hurt, right? (1816 views)
Tasted by markcic on 4/10/2021 & rated 93 points: Almost a year since I last tried a bottle. Last time I PNP'd while this time I opened slow ox'd for an hour or so and then decanted and let sit for two hours and it did make a difference. The nose was dark fruit with a hint of fresh cut wood. The palate was dark berries, dark plum, cassis, a little wood and a touch of thyme which came out on the finish which was moderate to long. Served with a roasted leg of lamb which was crusted with panko, garlic, rosemary and dijon mustard. I have one bottle of the 2010 left and I will save it until next year to see if it develops further. With the disorganization downstairs in my cellar it will probably take me a year to find it anyway, Happy Sunday everyone (1660 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 3/29/2021 & rated 92 points: Unike my notes earlier this month, this time the wine was a flabby and lacking verve. It was enjoyable but lack any secondary flavor. Maybe it was because I was also drinking an 08 Feytit Clinet which beat this hands down. (1374 views)
Tasted by Elkcims on 3/4/2021 & rated 94 points: Lovely, Blackberry, spice, cassis, soft tannin. I've never had a Shafer CS that I did not like. I think 10 years is the sweet spot for One-Point Five as I have had the 2013 and 2014 with little to no secondary flavors. (1458 views)
Tasted by Bluethunder on 1/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Soft cork. Drinking well but may be at peak given the cork issue. All stored in temp/humidity controlled environment. (1464 views)
Tasted by CR lawrence on 12/29/2020 & rated 95 points: The 2010 One Point Five is outstanding at this juncture; full of fresh aromas and soft tannins, fresh barnyard after a cool rain, and lots of fruit. Give it 30 minutes, and what a pleasant surprise. Great with anything: beef, lamb, cheese - plus, or just simply drinking. If one is lucky to find a few bottles that have been stored properly at 55 degrees and perfect humidity... it will be a great find, and great drinking. (1402 views)
Tasted by Bluethunder on 12/17/2020 & rated 93 points: A rich, full-bodied cab with a smooth finish. Blueberries, dark fruit, currant and spice. Will continue to age well. (1383 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 10/28/2020 & rated 94 points: This wine is all it should be right now. It will last, but no reason not to open bottles now. (1535 views)
Tasted by doug374 on 10/25/2020 & rated 94 points: Drinking very well. Fruit and mineral elements fully integrated. (1551 views)
Tasted by AZEngineer on 7/25/2020 & rated 94 points: We really enjoyed it. Great after 15 min. Fantastic after 1.5 hrs. Liked this more than bottles so far this year (1559 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 7/4/2020 & rated 91 points: This was a perfect wine for a July 4 celebration with all of the great food that Memphis has to offer. It was big, powerful, balanced with wonderful combination of red and dark fruit. It was also smooth on the palate and had a finish that (as you would expect from Shafer) went on and on. (1510 views)
Tasted by JB12 on 6/28/2020 & rated 95 points: Really great. Ready to drink out of the bottle, BUT if you wait 2 hours, you will be treated to something great. The wine completely smooths out. It has a berry flavor that is not overwhelming and has some nice notes up and down the scale. smooth in on the tongue and stays that way in the finish.
Did I say really great, wished I had more. (1479 views)

Shafer

Producer website
John Shafer and his family founded Shafer Vineyards, located in the Stags Leap District of the Napa Valley, in 1979. From the Shafers' first wine, a 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon,
their wines have won much acclaim. Today, the Shafers farm 200 acres of vineyard in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Oak Knoll regions. Their flagship wine, Hillside Select,
is produced from selected blocks of the family's hillside vineyards and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. They also produce Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay, Merlot, One Point Five
(Cabernet Sauvignon) and Relentless (a Syrah/Petite Sirah blend), which was named #1 wine of the year by Wine Spectator's "Top 100" of 2012.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
