Community Tasting Notes (average 89 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 155 notes)

Tasted by chelidon on 3/15/2020 & rated 86 points: Still slipping, but enjoyable. This will not get any better, drink them if you have them. (1570 views)
Tasted by KPPJ on 8/11/2018: Very good (2399 views)
Tasted by chelidon on 4/30/2016 & rated 87 points: Slipped a bit from December, but still drinking well enough. A little less intense nose with a bit more mustiness, a little more licorice on the finish. Very smooth, tannins are as mellow as they can be. (4559 views)
Tasted by chelidon on 12/15/2015 & rated 88 points: Definitely on the decline, but still pleasant -- a nose like BBQ ribs and sex (for some, maybe the same thing), structure is still present, but lessened over the previous year, and fruit is way down from prior tastings. Drink 'em if you got 'em. (4939 views)
Tasted by djreme on 10/11/2014 & rated 88 points: - Violet color with a medium/full body - Still drinking well.

Tasted by cdp1276 on 10/7/2014 & rated 82 points: Consumed on rooftop patio at Noble Rot. (5246 views)
Tasted by wino3002 on 9/5/2014 & rated 90 points: A great bottle, perhaps just past peak, but still putting out the dark fruit. Gravel and grass on the nose. Vacuum sealed half the bottle and drank again 5 days later. Noticeably inkier on second pour, with notes of asphalt dominating the fruit. (4663 views)
Tasted by KevinTucker on 8/3/2014 & rated 90 points: Plum dominates...brick color, not so tannic after the years. This is a great cab for the price and very much at or near peak. Drink up.

Paired with bison tonight--excellent and held up well. (3250 views)
Tasted by Domer99 on 6/1/2014 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured. Appears to be a synthetic cork. Several years in and this wine is still very fresh, with lots of fruit. The color is darker and there was a bunch of setiment to work around, but the wine didn't appear to have lost any of its delicious fruit. I don't see this going downhill in the near term, but no need to hold it either. (2960 views)
Tasted by prism on 2/13/2014 & rated 89 points: Pnv. Solid, easy drinking cab. Consumed two-thirds of a bottle, then VV'd and refrigerated, then warmed to room temp and consumed the rest two evenings later. Okay, but not as good as on Day One. Drink up. (2216 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 4/9/2013 & rated 90 points: Nice Napa Cab! (4065 views)
Tasted by swade on 2/5/2013 flawed bottle: Brick color. Masses of sediment, unlike the bottle from last year. Cork sound, but corked none the less. Foul smelling and tasted not much better. Poured down the drain. Fifth corked bottle ever. (4085 views)
Tasted by swade on 7/4/2012 & rated 88 points: I let this breathe in the glass for three hours. Powerful nose of plums and rust. Tri-colored, with the appearance of some age. Watery rim to violet to blood. Relatively simple palate of plums with an astringent sensation and a drying finish of fine, gritty tannins. I had this a few years ago and it has evolved, but laterally. This will hold a couple of years, but you can enjoy it now. (4395 views)
Tasted by chefshren on 6/13/2012 & rated 90 points: Very light tannins, nice body. Plum chocolate and some light herbal notes. (4256 views)
Tasted by tcufletch on 3/9/2012 & rated 89 points: Deep ruby with slight watery edge; plum and light chocolate on the nose; plum palate...lots of it; tannins have almost disappeared; very smooth drinker; relatively low alcohol at 14.2%.

This producer makes a very nice and reliable Cab. In-line with what I would expect from 2005 Napa fruit. (4628 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 2/16/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nice. Dark fruit on the palate throughout. Not overbearing--nice finish. Very tasty. (3747 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 2/8/2012: going going gone =( (3465 views)
Tasted by LCHammer on 12/3/2011 & rated 88 points: Great Napa value. I believe that I hit this one right on the head by drinking it now. Great currant and blackberry fruit on front and mid palete. Nice round tannins and a decent finish. May start fading soon so drink now. You can spend a whole lot more than the $20 or so I paid for this and get less in a Napa cab. (2001 views)
Tasted by rehiltz on 10/28/2011 & rated 87 points: Some nice dark berry notes on the nose with hints of oak. Still pleasantly fruity, with just a little bit of a hot alcohol streak running through the finish. A nice Cab, but I'm not on board with WS 90 point rating of this wine. Good QPR but not a 90 point Cab for me. (4098 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/8/2011 & rated 91 points: Very dark red violet color; ripe plum, black currant, blackberry nose; mature, tart black fruit, black currant, tart plum palate; medium-plus finish (2840 views)
Tasted by jimmyrice14 on 10/3/2011 & rated 91 points: Great value cab...opened up right away, cherries on the nose, smooth tannins, drinking great. Under rated for sure. (3934 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 5/31/2011 & rated 87 points: I usually grade this higher -maybe just a bad wine day for my palate. (4727 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 4/26/2011 & rated 84 points: Not sure what to expect for the price, but found this wine to be thin, lacking in rich fruit and any finish to mention. However, the wine has structure with tannins integrated with what little fruit exists in the bottle. (4843 views)
Tasted by socerjim on 4/2/2011 & rated 87 points: This is a very solid Cali Cab, but way over-rated by others, and nowhere near the value some proclaim. The fruit is hidden by too much oak and tanning, making it a real mouthful in the old style...not very approachable now, and I think it might not improve. (2008 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 2/20/2011 & rated 90 points: Smooth! (5056 views)
Tasted by bwk on 1/11/2011 & rated 88 points: Tannins basically gone. Nice, Cali Cab... Drink up! (5590 views)
Tasted by Normones on 11/15/2010 & rated 86 points: I really thought this was an average cali Cab. a little thin, a little light on the fruit, a little too much oak. The tannins were nice and in check but the whole experience was similar to a $9 cab that you get at the local chain grocery store. Not bad but not great. (5706 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 11/14/2010 & rated 88 points: Omg...agree with last tasting note drink up.......... (5649 views)
Tasted by BeachBum_73 on 11/5/2010 & rated 89 points: Still good, but has aged. THIS IS A DRINK NOW, AS SHE IS IN HER SUNSET! (5706 views)
Tasted by vinomex on 10/8/2010 & rated 87 points: just OK. (6172 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 8/22/2010 & rated 90 points: Consistent with last bottle. (6010 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 7/30/2010 & rated 90 points: This has picked up more weight since my last bottle in '08. Oak is subtle and beginning to integrate. Drinking very well right now. (6177 views)
Tasted by goodbertgrapes on 7/11/2010 & rated 90 points: Decent fruit and body. Not much complexity but good at this price point. (6553 views)
Tasted by RobertDwyer on 6/15/2010 & rated 88 points: Plummier at this point than prior bottles I enjoyed a bit more but still a nice Napa Cab at an attractive price point. (6878 views)
Tasted by lumpkins on 5/21/2010 & rated 89 points: very easy drinking cali cab. cassis and black currant with a nice tartness to it. (6630 views)
Tasted by jimmyrice14 on 5/10/2010 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly smooth, big fruit...hard to beat for the money for a Napa cab. I think it benefited from two years in the cellar. (6529 views)
Tasted by nogohawk on 5/9/2010 & rated 89 points: VG Cali Cab - nice QPR; popped & poured - currant & blackberry - nice finish (6543 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 5/2/2010 & rated 89 points: Gonna miss this wine when my stash is gone (6633 views)
Tasted by Joelene on 4/15/2010 & rated 91 points: Refined, subdued, silky smooth, better after 2-3 hours open, this is good solid cab, not a rustic style a bit polished and not overly complex but the quality is unmistakable.
Notes of cassis, blueberry, cedar chips, mocha, clove vanilla extract and cherry-cola. Great QPR for Napa. (6724 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 4/10/2010 & rated 89 points: As always a real crowd pleaser!! (6232 views)
Tasted by WineBovine on 3/20/2010 & rated 87 points: Fruit hidden... Missing that top flight edge... (6415 views)
Tasted by 97edwardc on 2/21/2010 & rated 92 points: Outstanding. Full, rich, Napa cab nose. The tannins are there but nicely smoothed out. Dark fruit with a bit of coffee on the palate. Medium finish with a small touch of bitterness, although not unpleasant. Great QPR. (6482 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 2/11/2010 & rated 89 points: Drinking well. Tart cherry well balanced. This a steady wine around $20 area. Goes well with most meats even salmon. I like this wine and will miss this vintage when my stash is gone. Thank you Buehler! (6178 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 1/27/2010 & rated 89 points: Open, decant 1 hour and enjoy (6305 views)
Tasted by Fishboy on 1/17/2010 & rated 89 points: Dark fruit, currant and alittle vanilla. Nice cab for the price (5622 views)
Tasted by pete s. on 12/30/2009 & rated 89 points: Notes from memory. Bright red raspberry and currant on the nose. Very youthful on the palate this time around. A bit out of balance with a little heat on the back end but still tasty. The currant and red fruit flavors carry over to the mouth with some nice oak nuances. Solid at $20 for a Napa Cab. Might be in a slight dumb phase. (5867 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 12/25/2009 & rated 88 points: Opened nicely after about two hours. Blackberry, black cherry and currant notes with some secondary complexity. There was a hard edge that didn't shake off but overall very good for the entry level Buehler Cab. (5692 views)
Tasted by Kraigers1 on 12/19/2009 & rated 85 points: This wine was big, bold and in your face - but not really in a good way if you ask me. A harsh wine, it’s not terribly approachable...and doesn’t seem like a few years is going to help, either. Found it overpowered anything in its path, and would probably only do well against a steak straight up. Not my kind of wine. (1721 views)
Tasted by Vinacull on 12/19/2009 & rated 89 points: P&P at a Xmas party, and it was gone before one could utter "Blitzen". Dark cherry red in the glass with some black hues, full body. Unsure of the storage on this, but it smelled and tasted aged beyond its years. Big nose of ripe blackberries, cherries, tomato, leather, spices, and volcanic soil. Rich blackerries, cherries, and plum on the palate, along with obvious leather, graphite and herbs, especially in the finish. Medium-low acid, and some chewy texture from tannins, but by and large well-integrated. A little heat on the finish. Delicious and the WS90 doesn't seem overblown. Excellent value at 20-22 as noted by others. (5212 views)
Tasted by dpohlman on 12/5/2009 & rated 88 points: Nice for the price. (5201 views)
Tasted by jrwhitney6 on 11/27/2009 & rated 90 points: good nose. balanced wine with notes of blackberry. very enjoyable. (4851 views)
Tasted by 11mcraig on 11/22/2009 & rated 89 points: Allowed to decant for 1 hour. Typical Napa Cab...great color, nice fruit on the nose, decent finish. This wine needs another couple of years to develop. (1969 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 11/1/2009 & rated 89 points: See my note below. I decanted one hour, but nose and wonderful taste seemed gone after an additional hour. Wow I may need a stop watch to enjoy this great juice. (4796 views)
Tasted by jjclips2 on 10/26/2009 & rated 88 points: Its hard to find a Napa cab for under a $20 bill let alone one that delivers. This is one of the exceptions. Typical cassis, black cherry, cedar, and toast. Nice acidity and firm tannins, yet not over the top. Very good QPR. (4530 views)
Tasted by pmilne on 10/6/2009 & rated 92 points: Great QPR. Nose was nice berries, with hint of pepper and some herbs. Taste was nice lingering berries and cassis. Finish was fantastic with great tannins making it a lingering 30+ second finish with alternating tastes of berries, pepper, oak, and herbs. (4523 views)
Tasted by redman77 on 9/22/2009 & rated 89 points: Buehler...Buehler...Buehler....A solid QPR which needs to breath for about an hour. Dark red fruit with vanilla hint. The wine opens very tight but the alcohol burns off in an hour. I have a nice stash of this wine and will report back. I believe this may be cellar worthy. (4429 views)
Tasted by In.Vino.Veritas on 8/22/2009 & rated 89 points: previous notes apply. Not a bad wine, but it just lacks personality. (4343 views)
Tasted by TomLark on 6/25/2009 & rated 89 points: Currant, blackberry, oak. Decant for 30 minutes. (4891 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 5/29/2009 & rated 88 points: opened and left open for about 40 minutes before first glass. Ran each glass through the Vinturi. Dark fruit on the nose, with that following through on the palate. The tannins while present are nice and smooth, they place nice with the vanilla from the oak. A nice bottle. (4510 views)
Tasted by mik3p0p3 on 5/23/2009 & rated 90 points: Not quite as full bodied as I expected. Opened 3 hours before drinking. Nice wine overall. A good wine for mid-range cellar (3-5 years). (4492 views)
Tasted by drewrowe on 5/20/2009 & rated 91 points: book club mtg, they love this wine, as do we all. (4373 views)
Tasted by brucef on 5/14/2009 & rated 90 points: I could tell this was a notch above the average run of the mill cab from the first taste. Some complexity, a bit of nose, good structure. Very pleasant. A good value if priced under $20. (4505 views)
Tasted by zoulodi on 4/30/2009 & rated 91 points: Well-proportioned, with a mix of spicy currant, blackberry, cedar and mineral notes, picking up a hint of anise on the finish. Ends with a long, persistent finish (1890 views)
Tasted by futronic on 4/29/2009 & rated 89 points: April 2009 FWR Tasting (FWR, Toronto, Canada): Opaque purple/black colour. Aromas of green pepper and blackcurrant. Full-bodied, lush, with vanillan, blackcurrant, blackberry cassis, and alcohol. Moderate-long, spicy, black fruit finish. Nice. Drink now. (4816 views)
Tasted by DennisL on 4/12/2009 & rated 91 points: Very good value. (4618 views)
Tasted by csu.viticulture on 3/27/2009: Complex and well-integrated wine. Rich, hot, cassis and vanilla on the nose. Chewey, cocoa-like tannins on the palate with a layer of dark fruit on the palate. After breathing in the glass for about 20 min., I noticed a bouquet of violet and rose intertwined with pipe tobacco emerge. (4529 views)
Tasted by Steve01 on 3/14/2009 & rated 90 points: Plum and blackberry flavors with a nice lasting finish. A consistent wine from a consistent winery. (4387 views)
Tasted by deltacop on 3/13/2009 & rated 89 points: maybe 89+ It's OK but nothing I'm jumping up and down about. At $22 its good but I've got a good QPR for a lot less. No need for a 50% premium for similar quality. (4353 views)
Tasted by RobertDwyer on 3/9/2009 & rated 90 points: Just what I'm looking for in a Napa Cab. Blackberries, caramel and vanilla on the nose. Very round on the palate and a delight to drink. (4338 views)
Tasted by whynblog on 3/5/2009 & rated 89 points: A good amount of sweet dark fruit on the nose. Currant, blackberry and hints of dill and cedar across the palate. The finish is long with fine grained tannins hanging on all the way through. Buehler seems to always deliver consistent quality at a fair price with their Napa Valley designated Cabernet Sauvignon and this 2005 vintage is no exception. (4102 views)
Tasted by jwolf99 on 3/1/2009 & rated 90 points: Did not decant this time; consistent with previous notes, although flavors were slightly more subdued; had with beef stroganoff (4012 views)
Tasted by jwolf99 on 2/8/2009 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 30 mins; strong nose of strawberry jam and leather; plums and fresh berry jam flavors; herbs de provance on finish; medium body with smooth, light tannins; moderate to long finish; very good QPR; had with bbq porterhouse and garlic mashed potatoes (4104 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 2/1/2009 & rated 88 points: Nice effort - a bit thin on flavor, tannins and finish. (3922 views)
Tasted by Domer99 on 1/31/2009 & rated 89 points: Popped and it tasted tight, so decanted for 30 minutes. To start, there were lots of dark fruit on the nose - blackberry, black cherry, plum and a little leather. The leather was stronger on the palate. As the wine opened over the course of a couple of hours, it developed more complex vegetal aromas and flavors. Not offensive, but different. Basil, a little sage, more rustic than the strong fruit at the beginning. Had with filet in balsamic reduction. (3853 views)
Tasted by SFDoug on 1/30/2009: Mellowed considerably 20 minutes after opening. Mild tannins. Very drinkable, lighter bodied Cabernet. (3732 views)
Tasted by VinoGreenBay on 1/24/2009: Started the night with Hedges Three Vineyards, moved to Buehler, then on to Tablas Creek. Buehler was best in our book, tablas was very good as well. Had with sun dried tomato pesto stuffed pork tenderloin wrapped in panchetta. yum... (3618 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 1/22/2009 & rated 90 points: same as other bottles. (3547 views)
Tasted by jbshows on 12/29/2008 & rated 91 points: Top notch value. Well balanced with velvety texture. (3760 views)
Tasted by vinole on 12/24/2008 & rated 90 points: Consistent with previous note. (3232 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 12/24/2008 & rated 90 points: consistent with other bottles. Decanted for 30 minutes and really made a difference. (3200 views)
Tasted by deltacop on 12/23/2008 & rated 90 points: P&P - I don't think this needs a decant. The tannins are light and if anything it seemed to lose something after a couple hours. (not much, but a little). Anyway, I've been looking forward to having this for the first time, and I was not disappointed. It was light to medium bodied with a nice nose. QPR all the way. Slightly better then the Indian Wells, but at a cost of 50% more. I know its not big bucks but on a QPR basis, I'd still have to give the edge to CSM for cost alone. Having said that, I'll make sure to have a few of these in my cellar at all times to switch hit for a change of pace. Enjoy! (3198 views)
Tasted by dirtyharry on 12/22/2008 & rated 91 points: Excellent, well knit wine. Intense nose, nice mouthfeel, velvety tannins with a long finish. (3223 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 12/19/2008 & rated 90 points: very smooth and consistent from start to finish. A great wine for the money. (3017 views)
Tasted by *Vine* on 12/17/2008 & rated 89 points: Popped and aerated for 30 minutes. Medium to dark red-purple hue. Immediately upon pouring a pronounced aroma of cherries leapt out of the glass.....plus additional aromas of black currant, creme de cassis, red bell pepper, anise and some spice. Further aromas that developed in glass veered on the herbaceous side of Cabernet (cedar, basil, and mint). Medium-plus body. On the palate one is immediately hit with the fruit - think black cherry, cherry pie, and currant. Tannins are slightly astringent but well integrated with the fruit. Plus finish. Although slightly one dimensional on the palate at this point, it still only takes one taste to quickly realize that this wine has potential......give it at least another 12 months - preferably 2-3 years - and it will definitely gain in complexity.

Relative to the the rest of Napa Cabernet, this label has proven to be a steady QPR selection every year....and the 2005 certainly lives up to that standard. (3137 views)
Tasted by Hazeo on 12/6/2008 & rated 89 points: Smooth and friendly napa cab. Like others have said this is not the in your face type cab but with more subtlety. Not extraordinary by any means but very good QPR. (2922 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 11/28/2008 & rated 89 points: Popped, decanted and poured. Nice bottle, well integrated tannis. (2716 views)
Tasted by CTwine on 11/17/2008 & rated 90 points: Nice wine good QPR (2892 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 11/13/2008 & rated 90 points: This is drinking very nicely now.. perhaps a notch better than the bottle I opened in June. If you like big, bold cabs, this may let you down. Buehler is more simple and subtle and light on its feet. Finesse and fine tannins. Be sure to give it an hour or two of air before serving. (2718 views)
Tasted by pkbackman on 11/9/2008 & rated 87 points: Very Good Napa Cab. Bright, light, black cherry fruit. A little "thin" for me, but still a very good Cab for the price. (2717 views)
Tasted by DTWOB on 10/29/2008 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured - Actually 91 +! This is a very good cali-cab. Will only get better with a year or two of cellar time. Dense, plumb color with a tight, almost non-existant halo, ripe dark cherries overpower the nose, Dark cherries with spice, cedar and mixed dark berry palate. Smooth, medium body mouthfeel with well rounded tannins, low heat, well placed and controlled acidity that helps drive a deep and long finish with more spice and mineral notes. Well, controlled oak! Excellent overall structure. Not too complex - this baby sings through the entire experience. Only bought two bottles, will definitely "case-up" on this one - great QPR!! (2745 views)
Tasted by whynblog on 10/27/2008 & rated 90 points: A very well put together wine. The nose features flavors of black currant, green peppercorn and ginger. On the palate it's more black currant toasted oak and spice box and lingers all the way through the medium length finish. An excellent value at $22. (2044 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 10/10/2008 & rated 92 points: Great wine! Decanted for 30 minutes. Big fruit nose. Blackberry and currant flavors. Very nice finish. My last bottle - I have to get more. (2059 views)
Tasted by caplone on 10/7/2008 & rated 90 points: After an hour and a half of decanting this stuff was a real solid effort. (3066 views)
Tasted by elamasters on 9/25/2008 & rated 79 points: Disappointing. Very thin and simple. Lacking depth, concentration, and complexity. Not bad, but not interesting. (2922 views)
Tasted by acox on 9/22/2008 & rated 89 points: Great cab at a great price. Sweet smoke and dark cherry. A hint of spice, medium finish. (2863 views)
Tasted by Wino from Michigan on 9/7/2008 & rated 88 points: This is a value wine that has some strong points and weak points but overall it was good for the price and still has a lot of bottle time left. The strong points was that it was well structured with a lot of room for maturing as the tannins and wood/oak were still very strong on the palate and dominated -- along with this you tell there was some plum, charcoal and nice spiciness to the raw taste. (2862 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 9/6/2008: consistent with prior bottle. dark fruit on the nose. On the palate there are plenty of dark fruit and a bit of spicy earthiness. The tannins are smooth, and the acidity is in check. (2871 views)
Tasted by ocattorney on 9/2/2008 & rated 88 points: Nice dark color. Good nose of red fruit and vanilla. The vanilla (oak) was way too strong initially. The oak dominated all flavor profile. After about 1 hour, the oak backed off some and the fruit came through. Nice wine, I would decant for at least an hour. (2895 views)
Tasted by jasonh on 8/31/2008 & rated 92 points: The aromatics really evolved. At first there was lots of spice and I probably would not have picked it as cab. Over time it came into focus showing some green elements but at the same time, ripe focused fruit. The next night there were more leather and animal aromas. Tart fruit on the palate. Underlying vegetation and sweet light tannins. The tannins hardly showed on the finish. On the next day the wine was fuller, richer and the oak was more noticeable. One element I loved was the persistence of the finish. The wine went on an on with fruit, iron and rocks. (2783 views)
Tasted by alandf on 8/28/2008 & rated 90 points: Nice dark fruit and flavor, with a touch of oak, and medium-heavy body. (2812 views)
Tasted by vinole on 8/26/2008 & rated 90 points: Decanted for about 45 minutes. One of the best QPR's I've had for Napa cab. I was able to buy for less than $20 with a coupon. Medium to full body with lush dark fruit and enough acidity and tannin to keep it balanced. The finish is 25-30 seconds of currants, black cherry, and plum. No mid palate hole or overly soft like you usually get in this price point. Just a tiny bit of heat at the end, but a great wine at it's price. Heartily recommended. (2849 views)
Tasted by King Cab on 8/23/2008 & rated 90 points: Good dark color. Intense red and black fruits fill the nose. Initially the palate was very hot ad awkward, but after an hour or so this really fleshed out nicely. Intense currant and blackberry are forefront. There is some perfume fruits on the nose that walks a fine line of nice and awkward. This holds on though. It has a wonderful mouth feel that belies its price. Great leather and volcanic rock with a touch of anise and tar. Nice. I actually was looking for the '06, but am not disappointed the least. A highly tannic wine that needs time, but the acid really balances it out. A long finish with lots of stuffing. This is a sure sleeper & QPR (3077 views)
Tasted by AndrewH on 6/14/2008 & rated 90 points: Solid. Consistent. Typical Cab. Good value @ $20. Actually a great value. (3729 views)

Tasted by TCKM on 6/5/2008 & rated 90 points: Dark purple with nose of black fruit and anise. Flavors of black cherry and spice but a lighter body than expected. Very little oak presence and ultra fine tannins. It initially had a relatively short and hot finish, but after about two to three hours of air, this really came together. I recommend decanting. A very nice daily drinker and good QPR for $22. (3390 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 5/19/2008 & rated 87 points: Very good. The dark fruit jumps out of the glass on the nose. On the palate there are plenty of dark fruit and a bit of spicy earthiness. The tannins are smooth, and the acidity is in check. A nice bottle. (3583 views)

Tasted by hutch on 5/2/2008 & rated 89 points: Great nose. Very cab like. Dark fruits. On the palate, ripe, but not overly so. Great dark red/black fruits with a little herbelness. Medium finish. The quality is higher then one would expect for a $20 bottle. Good buy at the price, but I wouldn't be quite so excited at $30. (3688 views)

Tasted by LACERS on 4/11/2008 & rated 88 points: Tasted this last summer and again tonight. Seems to of lost the red fruits, but darker fruits, tobacco and earthiness comes in.

6/07 notes: Complex nose of red cherries, cassis, anise, with a hint of graphite, spice and earth. Medium to Fullbodied, this wine has mild tannins, smooth with finesse and has quite a long finish. Red cherries, cassis, black cherry, raspberry, with a nice touch of anise, allspice and java chip on the palate. 91 points

4/08 notes: Nose of blackberry, plums, graphite, black cherry with a touch of spice. Medium bodied, moderate drying tannins, more pronounced than last year. Finish got shorter with just a Medium finish. Tightened up quite a bit. A little disappointed this did not get better from last summer. Palate of blackberry, currant, cocoa, anise and some tobacco. Can't complain though for a $21 Cab. (4208 views)

Tasted by LACERS on 6/20/2007 & rated 91 points: Did the Tour at the winery and I must say, John Buehler is so nice and down to earth person who gave me one of the best tours I ever had! Tasted this Cab at the winery and it was delicious! The winery I went to before Buehler served me a couple $200+ Cabs and I have to say this $20 Buehler came pretty close to those. Complex nose of red cherries, cassis, anise, with a hint of graphite, spice and earth. Medium to Fullbodied, this wine has mild tannins, smooth with finesse and has quite a long finish. Red cherries, cassis, black cherry, raspberry, with a nice touch of anise, allspice and java chip on the palate. Great QPR again for a Napa Cab under $25. Well done John! Thanks again for the great tour with breathtaking views! (4676 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
