Tasted by StefanAkiko on 11/27/2019: Paris - Stockholm - Umeå - Tokyo in 6 days; 11/26/2019-12/1/2019 (World): This one disappeared from my notes ?!?
Should have been a wine that I'd be very happy with. (4298 views)
Tasted by Elvis1969 on 11/27/2019 & rated 89 points: Jordig, bläck, mörka bär, bättre och bättre med luft. (3224 views)
Tasted by PacoHigon on 5/17/2018: Ribete abierto, bastante capa. (4917 views)
Tasted by william perry on 3/2/2018: decanted for 1 hour --outstanding .. complex but smooth
excellent nose fruit forward gives way to white pepper tobacco and finishes with slight forest really enjoyed it on a special occasion (4576 views)
Tasted by Klump on 11/9/2017 & rated 91 points: Brett funkiness, color is ruby, slight dullness around edges. Red fruit, tannins are gone, Medium body, medium finish. Any bottles left I’d drink up. It’s not going to get any better. (4864 views)
(3484 views)
Tasted by PimpDaddy2Kool on 5/5/2017 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 90 minutes. Lots of bottle sediment. Paired well with the roasted lamb. Still drinking well, but not sure if it's going to last much longer. (3621 views)
(2636 views)
Tasted by Corgi on 7/19/2016 & rated 93 points: Went through two bottles, paired with with grilled meats. Truly in its prime now. Balanced with good (but not over) concentration. (3207 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 4/3/2016 & rated 90 points: Slow oed for an hour. Nice aged version of Tempranillo. Nose a bit reticent compared with younger new worldean wines. Fruit still present. Softened up after an hour or so. Handled grilled meats well. Better with food. (3253 views)
Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 3/23/2016 & rated 89 points: Ready but no hurry. 100% Tinto Fino, aka Tempranillo. A little one dimensional perhaps but the oak has integrated well. (2447 views)
Tasted by Keith Cooper on 11/8/2015 & rated 95 points: A gift from a friend who had stored it in his underground cellar since original purchase on release. Looking surprisingly young, bold ruby colour, just a hint of cloudiness. On the nose, orange and blackcurrants. Smooth, long. I reckon would keep longer, but best to drink soon. (3083 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 1/8/2014 & rated 90 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS #085; Spain: Ribera del Duero. (by EvA): Beautiful and mature bouquet with dark and red forest fruits, red cherries, good oak and some licorice. On the palate chocolate, hazelnuts , ripe dark fruits and powdery tannin. Good freshness and length. Nice wine and fully mature now. (6218 views)
Tasted by epicurian on 11/29/2013: really quite elegant and well rounded; great value. however, I do believe it does not have much life left, although one never truly knows... ;-) (4341 views)
Tasted by Wineshington on 3/14/2013 & rated 92 points: Delicious wine, great with red meat. Definitely in the drinking window. Decanted for 2+ hours. (5013 views)
Tasted by Pavan on 12/25/2012 & rated 93 points: Vibrant and concentrated wine with long finish (5009 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 11/15/2012: Historical & Vertical Alión Tasting (Bodega Santa Cecilia - Madrid): So good and typical. Nice all the way. Coke. This is very good indeed. Whata 2000 to refill a complete cellar

Tan rica y típica. Buena todo el rato. Cola. Sin duda es muy buena. Menudo2000, para rellenar una bodega completa. (5648 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 7/8/2012 & rated 92 points: Good colour, dark plum centre, pretty even cherry rim. But what a wonderful nose, smoked meat, blackberry a little soy and iodine - really complex and very interesting right out of the bottle. Well balanced, great flavour, lovely sweet blackberry fruit with juicy acidy and soft tannins. Nice long finish. Not extraordinary - but a beautiful wine. Drinking really well now. (3411 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 3/7/2012 & rated 91 points: CABO SAN LUCAS

Served Cold

Deep burgundy-onyx-like center

Faint nose due to serving temperature, as it warmed pulled some traces of cassis and light cedar

Full bodied, hints of tar, cedar, light vanilla. Some 'meatiness' Long finish. It is a well structured wine that is aging gracefully (3427 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 8/26/2011 & rated 90 points: A lot of expressive ripe, mainly red fruits in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Very juicy. Good concentration and acidity. Possibly at its best now. (3185 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 8/19/2011 & rated 89 points: Impromptu tasting @ Peter Z. (Belgium): Shy, blackberry-tinged nose hinting on syrah. Citrusfruit, Earl-Grey tea. Modern and internationally styled. This is a nice glass of wine, but lacking some identity and typicity IMHO to make it truly memorable. (17/20) (3927 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 5/22/2011 & rated 90 points: Nice expressive nose. Drying tannins. Slight herb smoke and spice. Very nice but appears at its peak. (3287 views)
Tasted by tomandlu on 11/18/2010 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. Intense, virtually opaque purple-garnet color with little fading at the rim. Explosive nose of tar, anise, smoke, ripe currants, and mixed spices. Powerfully fruit and moderately tannic but balanced. The tannins are very fine and there's good acidity to balance the intensity of the fruit. Long, tannic, fruity finish. Lovely wine. Drank from the winelist at Cafe Soriah in Eugene, OR. Note: We had two bottles, the second of which was not nearly as intense as the first. (3648 views)
Tasted by Marcyrillo on 11/15/2010 & rated 91 points: Envelhecer fez muito bem a este vinho. (3921 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 7/13/2010: An absolute belter. Old world fruit, new world feel, dense yet supple and sweet. Red currant fruits are laced with liquorice and earth. Seamless in the mouth with excellent length. (3168 views)
Tasted by inkana on 6/8/2010: Popped the cork four hours before drinking. Deep garnet. Nose of dark fruit, leather, cedar, herb and vanilla. Strawberry and raspberry flavors on the palate with cedar, earth and leather. Tannins just al dente. Finishes on leather notes with smoke and a little licorice. Very enjoyable. (4432 views)
Tasted by samwe on 2/25/2010 & rated 90 points: enjoyable (3996 views)
Tasted by cassetta on 8/24/2009 & rated 89 points: Dark and concentrated. Very new world. Nose offers sweet black fruit but with a hint of vanilla. Sweet on the palate but not enough backbone..a little flabby. Nice wine..correct...but nothing special...no earth, no real mid palate...finish is pleasant but short. Expected more from a $50 wine that has spent nearly five years in the cellar...I don't see this getting any better. (4945 views)
Tasted by GrandeSerataFuori on 7/31/2009 & rated 90 points: First stab at an aging (but still TOTALLY FULL OF LIFE) Alion. Gorgeous. WOTN for me. Feeling that new world style fade is a treat. Will score more of these if around. (4486 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 6/16/2009 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured at an event, no formal notes. I loved this wine. The aromas of vanilla, black cherry, flint, and a little smoke was amazing. On the palate there was massive black cherry, smoke, and a saltiness to this wine on the backend that was amazing. The finish was quite long. Definately my favorite of the bunch. (4834 views)
Tasted by CMz on 12/28/2008: Berries, cherry and black currant; firm but well integrated tannins. Smooth, almost velvety with a long finish. Will definitely benefit from more time. Best to decant, starting to throw a lot of sediment & wine still needs about an hour of air to really open. (4789 views)
Tasted by joni.m.anttonen@gmail.com on 8/29/2008 & rated 92 points: Nose: earth, oak, vanilla, ripe berries, cherry, liquorice
Palate: Full-bodied, smooth, integrated tannins, lonf finish, complex
very good (4764 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 12/8/2007 & rated 84 points: Volatile, cherryliquor, cassis, impressions of glue. Candylike and concentrated but not unattractive. Very suave and modern. Lots of tannines. But something's missing in the middle.. Lacking structure and not enough "muscle on the bones". 14,5/20. I was very disappointed when the (blinded) bottle was shown... (5357 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 9/23/2007 & rated 90 points: I cannot help myselft with stuff - I keep bringing a bottle up from the cellar when I know I should be keeping it for a few more years (see previous notes).

Drank yesterday with the in-laws and the wine is now showing a real sweetness that is just breaking through the other flavours. Much softer than previous bottles and in the glass the wine was really revealing much more complex flavours than before. Still inky black and powerful but with real elegance underneath the smell of tar and tobacco. There is a lot of sediment in the bottle so I would recommend decanting to get rid of this, and also to let the wine breathe a bit. A great wine that will probably get better by 4 or 5 points over the years. (5516 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 7/3/2007 & rated 89 points: Tasted again today after a disappointing couple of bottles from the case -see previous note) and this wine is opening up again. Rich textures - aromas of concentrated fruits and flint and vanilla. Still quite dark colour in the glass - not much thinning out on the rim. Shows that this wine is still some way off its best. Taste is smoky and concentrated - good acidity - the wine is becoming much more balanced than previous tastings. I would recommend waiting another couple of years on this to see how it holds up. Excellent. (5430 views)
Tasted by pederwelander on 3/14/2007 & rated 89 points: Purpurfärg, lite kött/animaliskt grönsaker i doften, bäring smak, låg tannin, färdigt och bra. Drick nu (5553 views)
Tasted by Vinho on 2/20/2007 & rated 90 points: Garrafa n. 069992. Excelente. (5700 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 2/3/2007 & rated 85 points: Decanted wine for a couple of hours before drinking. A lot of sediment on the side of the bottle. This wine seems to have closed down a bit compared to a couple of bottles drank a year previously. Tannins quite high compared to what I was expecting, slightly sour after taste, although there is an under current of leather and tobacco. Nose still quite closed. This wine needs some more time before opening out but when it does I think it will be well worth the wait. (5483 views)
Tasted by Vinho on 10/29/2006 & rated 91 points: Rubi fechado, alguns sedimentos, brilhante. Aromas lembrando tostado, café e fruta vermelha. Taninos finos e numerosos, boa fruta e ótima acidez. Final bastante longo. Excelente (6144 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/8/2006 & rated 90 points: Occasional tasting group: Top Spain (@ AW): Dark red with a purple rim. A lot of fruit, black currants in the nose. Firm, cherries, black currants, some medical associations, soft and sweet. Long aftertaste. Now in the glory of its life, but definitely remaining there for a while. (6078 views)
Tasted by pontac on 8/30/2006 & rated 84 points: CLWS - Mainly Spain with Sheila Taylor of Albion Wine Shippers Ltd (Civil Service Club, London): Murky dark black red, inky fruit, cherries and spice, enjoyable and expensive at 30GBP (6452 views)
Tasted by Marcyrillo on 8/1/2006 & rated 90 points: Tomado na inauguração do apto com o Edua e a Gra e depois com o Christovam. Excelente vinho. Muito corpo, concentração, profundidade. Um vinho para lembrar! (3532 views)
Tasted by randomly on 11/27/2005 & rated 90 points: Upon opening: very one dimensional and a little austere and rough in the mouth, slight drying tannins. Rather disappointing. (85 points)

Next Day: Much more interesting. Restained blueberry and underbrush on the nose. Significantly more fleshy in the mouth, with slight cinammon, clove and asphault. Short finish. (90 points) (5844 views)
Tasted by Jeff W on 11/14/2005 & rated 92 points: This is a well made wine - nicely balanced and apparently flawless. Deep purple colour, ripe dark fruit, and soft tannins lifted by minerality. My initial impression can be described as "easy drinking quality". However, returning to the bottle the next day it is a much more impressive and satisfying wine, with richer fruit, deeper tannins and a nice spicy quality. It will definitely benefit from decanting at this stage. dg (6174 views)

Tinto Fino

Tinto Fino or Tinta del País is the local name in Ribera del Duero for Tempranillo, probably Spain’s most famous grape. The name relates to the early fruit ripening, ideal for the harsh continental climate and short growing season of the region.

In Ribera del Duero Tempranillo yields smaller berries, loose clusters and tougher skin, which encourages more skin-to-juice contact and promotes full-bodied, powerful wines that still retain the grape’s renowned elegance. It’s a vibrant, aromatic variety that offers spicy, red fruit aromas and flavors.

The combination of power and elegance represents Tempranillo’s signature in Ribera del Duero, and the region’s singular contribution to winemaking today.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
