Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 59 notes)

Tasted by pkatz on 9/23/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with prior notes. (4937 views)
Tasted by vinophobic on 9/19/2014 & rated 92 points: First time having a DP Sav Blanc and I'm extremely impressed. This shows a really unique personality. Very enjoyable and different racy and zippy grapefruit and slight peach flavor with some Chablis-esque minerality and seashell balance. My favorite NZ Sav Blanc thus far -- makes Cloudy Bay seem pedestrian. (4696 views)
Tasted by graemeg on 8/13/2014: {screwcap, 13.5%} Pungent, intense nose of seashells and stainless steel. The palate tastes like someone put a bunch of oyster shells in a blender, so briney and salty are the flavours. Mineral, sandstone, with a touch of grapefruit and gooseberry too. No oak. Medium-bodied, with good mid-palate presence, decent balance along the tongue, and a dry, not-too-acidic medium-length finish. Clearly Marlborough, but with a touch of class about it; doesn't seem too commercial. Auction buy at A$15 was good value. (4872 views)
Tasted by 422dbowlsby on 8/11/2014 & rated 90 points: Typical NZ lemongrass and grapefruit aromas, but clean and crisp delivery. Almost a sparkling wine mouth feel. (4766 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 6/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Per prior tasting note, maybe slightly less wowed, but still a fine SB, with great up front nose of citrus/grapefruit/mineral and ample body as well as a fine finish. (5092 views)
Tasted by pkatz on 5/19/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous notes. (1621 views)
Tasted by Too much practice. on 5/9/2014 & rated 85 points: Meh. Too juicy, too fruity. (1214 views)
Tasted by pkatz on 5/5/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous notes. (1663 views)
Tasted by chatters on 5/1/2014: Green capsicum, stale passion fruit and cats pee. An indifferent Kiwi Sav Blanc. (1497 views)
Tasted by JFI on 4/26/2014 & rated 90 points: Hanne og Kirsten (1682 views)
Tasted by Praxis on 4/11/2014 & rated 89 points: Light yellow with a beautiful floral nose with citrus, tropical fruits, and asparagus. An intensely fruity and medium weight NZ sauvignon blanc with a nice zippy savory finish. (2443 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 4/4/2014 & rated 90 points: Just a bit on the simple side, but this was still a rather good Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The nose had pretty tropical aromas of ripe gooseberries, passion fruit and green mangoes, with a little floral ring and a touch of mineral. The palate was very pleasant, with a lovely citrus balance and nice, juicy flavours of lemons and limes leading into more tropical green guava notes. The finish led out with a little spice and mineral trailing into the back palate. Nothing too complex or serious, but this was quite enjoyable. It is drinking well young too. (2905 views)
Tasted by dimdic on 3/12/2014 & rated 93 points: Its fresh cut grassy aroma was significantly less than ordinary New Zealand's sauvignon blanc but its fruitiness was stronger. Good aroma of asparagus. Very strong taste of green lemon and passion fruit. Concentrated acidity, fruitiness and body. (1679 views)
Tasted by Andrew H on 3/1/2014 & rated 88 points: Odd funky smell on opening that dissipated quickly. Fairly standard NZ SB, with grapefruit and hint of pineapple. (1621 views)
Tasted by Deputy on 1/25/2014 & rated 88 points: Pretty typical good NZ Sauv. I doubt I'd be able to tell it from a KC. Maybe a touch deeper...? (1926 views)
Tasted by ccarter5181 on 1/19/2014 & rated 90 points: Grapefruit and grassy gooseberry on the nose and palate. Elegant, good fruit intensity and good acid balance. Great overall and a good value. (1797 views)
Tasted by _water.into.wine_ on 1/15/2014 & rated 90 points: Incredibly pale with tiny bubbles. Very intense nose of fruits and green pepper. Lovely in the mouth, smooth, and little acid. Good QPR (1887 views)
Tasted by juffer on 1/10/2014 & rated 91 points: I served this in my wine class. Very distinctive green pepper nose along with the usual grassy gooseberry. Perfect as an example of the Marlborough style. Better than most, and a good value. (1774 views)
Tasted by joekroe on 11/4/2013: Green pepper to the max (1844 views)
Tasted by pkatz on 10/7/2013 & rated 91 points: Delicious citrus and grapefruit flavors without being overly so. (2381 views)
Tasted by HStaal on 10/5/2013 & rated 87 points: WSET Level 2 Course - Berry Brothers & Rudd; 9/28/2013-10/26/2013 (Berry Brothers & Rudd - Basingstoke): A: clear pale lemon green appearance
N: clean very pronounced fruit; gooseberry; kiwi fruit; asparagus; grassy notes
P: dry; high- acidity; medium body; medium finish; sweet green fruits -> stewed gooseberry / pink grapefruit on finish. Sharp but also some sweetness
O: balanced acidity; medium length; very intense; no great complexity – GOOD (3345 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 10/5/2013: Green bell pepper notes pretty much overwhelm everything else in this wine. Not that enjoyable. Which is surprising given that I've had some lovely Dog Points in the past. (2187 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 10/1/2013 & rated 90 points: Herbal, peppery, grapefruit and guava nose. Assertive but balanced, supple fruit flavours with fresh acidity; long, smoky, savoury finish.

Tasted by drdecanto on 9/29/2013 & rated 79 points: Yikes! What happened to this wine? 3 months ago I thought this had grapefruit notes. Now this has as much acid as grapefruit juice. Screaming acidity! If you have this, it's time to pop one and see if your bottle is like this one. I've always liked Dog Point, so I don't know what has happened. (2274 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 9/26/2013 & rated 89 points: Pale, almost clear in color. Forward and attractive nose of grassy & gooseberries overtones, citrus notes of lemons/limes & grapefruit and a hint of minerals in the background. Medium-light to light bodied of ripe yet tangy fruit flavors of citrus of lemons/limes & white grapefruit, some lychee & green apples and some minerals. Good balance. Sharp acidity in the lingering finish. (2144 views)
Tasted by mchiew on 9/22/2013 & rated 87 points: a typical SB. nose of lime & mineral. fairly one dimentional, and strong acidity (due to its young age). nothing to shout abt. (1703 views)
Tasted by Fokkewagner on 9/17/2013 & rated 80 points: Green fresh pepper, hint of a bitter grapefruit.

Tasted by TKS9 on 9/3/2013 & rated 89 points: Quintessentially NZ SB, with abundant grassy grapefruit on the nose and floral tropical fruit notes on the mid palate, while thankfully lacking that off putting aftertaste that sometimes shows up in these wines. Perfect served slightly chilled on a warm afternoon. Can't say this is the best value out there, but would buy again. (1881 views)
Tasted by alohashirt on 8/27/2013 & rated 93 points: My favorite kiwi sauvignon blanc for the past few years. Bright, clean gooseberry fruit without any of the sourness or short finish that the weaker ones have. (1859 views)
Tasted by Knitted Character on 8/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Colour of lime juice and intense grapefruity nose. Palate is rather assaulted with tanginess but it very refreshing on a hot day like today, and anyway it'sntempered with herbs, crisp apples, and an oily texture. (1961 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 8/4/2013 & rated 87 points: Grass and bell pepper notes overshadow the refreshing citrus notes. Still, it's a fine SB and low stress summer wine. (1871 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 7/25/2013 & rated 89 points: Just a touch less generous than previous bottle (1924 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 7/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Extra lively citrus & grapefruit, but not simply that. Richer than many NZ SB. Crisp and balanced on the palate beyond the lemon/grapefruit, into richer fruit. Very enjoyable and could be a food wine, unlike some less dimensional counterparts (1671 views)
Tasted by ABrennan on 7/7/2013 & rated 86 points: - Greenish color with medium forming legs - A very typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - greenish and sharp with lots of citrus fruit. Zesty lemon with a touch of smoothing oil on the mid-palate. (1891 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 6/2/2013 & rated 91 points: Grapefruit notes. Crisp and floral. Lovely. (2038 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 5/14/2013 & rated 90 points: Green bean, green pepper, white pepper, guava and pineapple nose. Juicy and bright, ripe and long finishing.
4/5 (772 views)
Tasted by yofog on 4/18/2013 & rated 88 points: Delicious and interesting, musky, harmonious, mostly tasting of melon, but also with some green undernotes (without actually tasting like vegetables). (2188 views)
Tasted by Andrew H on 4/16/2013 & rated 90 points: Very light straw color. Hint of kiwi and lemon on palate and easy crisp finish. (1984 views)
Tasted by Lijmes on 4/10/2013 & rated 91 points: Clean & clear, slight straw tinge, almost colourless. Refreshing burst of Marlborough grassiness, strong nose lemon-lime zest & grapefruit that concludes with a dominant aroma of guava at medium length. Light yet citrusy on the initial, sharp acidity that leads into a bitter-lime transition. Clean & refreshing on the palate, leading to a nice medium length crisp finish. Notes of grapefruit & guava may be detected throughout. Beautiful sauvignon blan, good to drink young and on its own. (2279 views)
Tasted by Catflap on 3/2/2013 & rated 90 points: Pale and bright with a fresh, grapefruit nose. Melon and maybe a touch of peach are balanced by a steely, mineral backbone that makes the tongue tingle. Has everything I want from a Marlborough SB but with a little something extra to keep things interesting. (1994 views)
Tasted by Bisty on 1/18/2013 & rated 90 points: Delicious, bright fruit with a chalky acidity. Medium concentration. (2072 views)
Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 1/3/2013: lots of green pepper on the nose, t. passionfruit
very dry, more green pepper
not very keen (1848 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 9/4/2012 & rated 85 points: Overt and pungent, green pepper, smoke and kiwi fruit nose. distinct flavours with a long, peppery finish.
