Tasted by shafer1994 on 12/4/2022 & rated 91 points: Dark color, a bit of a restrained nose. Tight bouquet with some dark fruit, vanilla, smoke. Medium bodied, medium finish with some tannins still present. (539 views)

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of leather, pepper, black berries, smoke and roasted meat. Rich flavorsof black berries, plums and black raspberries. Medium to tart acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now. (1286 views)
Tasted by Mnawacki on 1/11/2020 & rated 89 points: Honestly, found this overhyped and overrated. I'd say very good, but not wow considering the price. Quite pruney, lots of dark, compote fruit "dans la bouche"...a bit barnyard stinky on initial opening, but mellowed out after about an hour. Nice to try but won't go out of my way for more of these....so many other great Super T choices that I'd rank ahead. (1520 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 12/26/2016 & rated 91 points: Boxing Day dinner at Chandra's. Pop and poured. Drank over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of earth, blueberry, black cherry, black pepper spice. Developed.
On the palaet, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol, initially smooth attacking but grippy high tannins on the back end, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blueberry, blackberries, black pepper, sweet spices, earth. Long finish.
Good quality. Acidity not fantastic and veering towards the brooding side already. Time to drink up.
Blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. All 4 varieties fermented separately. No Sangiovese here. (3185 views)
Tasted by Androurse on 4/9/2016 & rated 92 points: The wine looks brick colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like cranberry and prune. It tastes like black currant (cassis), prune, oak and vanilla. The body is medium/full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity. (3568 views)

Tasted by GEDC on 7/14/2013 & rated 92 points: While still young has the elements that will make this beauty into a fine wine. I will try to wait, but it's hard to resist because they are drinking well at this young stage. (3104 views)
Tasted by farinas on 2/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Deep full body with some ruby tinges on the edges, delicious bouquet of spicy new oak, currants, and herbal tones, great entry with acid and tannin support and bit of heat, body is lush with sweet rasperries and a medium finish of blackberry. Argiano takes full advantage of the bouquet of Montalcino fruit with the lush body of Tuscan fruit. This is starting to show some age on the palate in the form of dustier tannins and dryer herbs.  Tasted by The Tourist on 12/30/2010 & rated 88 points: indian spices, leather, dark fruit and oak... layers of tannins, very long wine, not quite enough fruit makes it to the surface on this one and the oak is a little much for me. feel this will develop quite a bit still, will keep the others in the cellar for a while.  Tasted by InternationalWineReport on 12/26/2010 & rated 91 points: Beautiful aromas of currant, blackberry, wet earth and Indian spices, with a perfumed floral undertone. Full-bodied, balanced and refined. Very long. (Drink 2010-2017) JD91 (3730 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 10/24/2010 & rated 92 points: I had my doubts about this with a big whiff of leather and barnyard on the nose. The palate changed that with some nice dark fruits, licorice, herb and smoke. Needs time in the bottle but still drinking great. (1589 views)
Tasted by hutch on 2/17/2009 & rated 88 points: Via: The Big Red Tour (Boston, MA): Nice spicy plum fruits on the nose. Very modern in style. Good. 87-89 (5600 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 11/21/2008 & rated 91 points: Argiano tasting (Wine What Else): My goodness, this was a Robert Parker monster of a wine. Opaque, dark, dark purple colour, almost tinged with black. Leather, meat and funk on the nose, along with a whiff of raw meat and a whole lot of dark fruits lurking menacingly behind the more savoury characteristics. After some time, a sweet, almost candy-like seam of liquorice and spice along with a liberal dash of black pepper started to emerge. The palate was dense, thick and muscular. Huge, almost monstrous in its aspect, it showed chewy, mouth-coating tannins, tons of rich dark fruit (a little indistinct at the moment), cracked white pepper and meaty funk. The finish was quite a bit longer than the 2003 Solengo, with a clean lift from underlying acidity, more raw meat and a final coating of tannins on the teeth. Not sure I really like the style of this wine, but it was decent enough and will get better with time. (4900 views)
Tasted by Wrighty on 5/17/2008 & rated 90 points: Decanter Great Italian Fine Wine Encounter (Landmark Hotel, London): Subtle nose, although hints of farmyard - tight palate. Structured, packed finish. (5693 views)

SuperTuscan Blend

SuperTuscan Blend refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties. There is often confusion as many wines most famous associated with the term "Super Tuscan" like Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia have no Sangiovese and are properly linked to 'Red Bordeaux Blend.'

In fact, Super Tuscan was a term coined to refer specifically to wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello. These were wines that "fell out" of the official DOCG classification of Italian wines because they either contained grapes not permitted (international varietals such as cabernet sauvignon or merlot,) were aged differently (I.e. in barrique) or were 100% sangiovese - which was not permitted at the time for Chianti (E.g. Fontodi Flaccianello.) Forced to be classified as simply "Vina di Tavola" these wines nontheless quickly found favour in international markets and comanded prices above the highest quality DOCG Chianti Classico & Brunello di Montalcino wines at the time. The wine industry and press began to refer to these wines as SuperTuscans because of their popularity and quality, but also because of the prices they commanded. Subsequently, the Italian authorities, under the Goria Law 1992, redrew the classifications, and included the category IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) to classify the SuperTuscans.
