Community Tasting Notes (average 83.7 pts. and median of 84 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by cmmatthews on 1/31/2013 & rated 84 points: Surpsingly still drinkable. Some sediment. Color slightly brown. some fruit, almost no finish. (3846 views)
Tasted by Nedder_travels_the_world on 9/11/2011 & rated 85 points: served blind, chocolate notes, some spice. drink now. surprising for a cheap wine to have held up this well. (4777 views)
Tasted by MurphyCellar on 4/8/2007 & rated 85 points: What can I say? You can't beat this red for the money. (5342 views)
Tasted by last chance on 7/14/2006 & rated 78 points: My first tasting of Two Buck Chuck. Though this wine was very strange for a Shiraz, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. My expectations were very low before tasting this. It's drinkable, but I wouldn't want to drink it very often at all. (5779 views)
Tasted by MrSnooty on 2/18/2006 & rated 82 points: This was our "mystery wine" at a recent tasting. Dark red, inky colour. A rather strange and unpleasant odour: funky, sweaty, farm-yard, with some red fruit emerging towards the end. Medium bodied, fruit flavours dominate at first, then soft tannins come through at the finish. Very easy-drinking everyday wine, but a little jammy and flabby for my liking. (6736 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 12/2/2005: (Tasted blind; double-decanted 8 hours earlier) Whoa. Bizarre, aromatic Viognier like nose. Wild estery fruit on the palate with some licorice. Frankenwine -- tastes nothing like Syrah. I almost like it anyway, but it's just too bubblegum-like. (3155 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 11/12/2005 & rated 84 points: Cheap Stuff: Pre-Thanksgiving Value Wine Tasting Party (Chicago NW Suburbs): Soft red fruit. A bit of spice. Easily quaffable. $3 at TJ's (5046 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 9/2/2005 & rated 85 points: This bottle must have been from a different tank than my last one. This was a pleasant improvement over the 03 vintage with more flavor and not as light. Some adequate fruit concentration and a touch of spice. (2842 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 8/11/2005 & rated 83 points: Honestly, nothing special in this shiraz - very little spice. But some sweetness makes this perfectly drinkable at $2! (3136 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 6/15/2005 & rated 83 points: Lighter than the 03. (2860 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
