Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Anthony Chinn on 2/17/2013 & rated 89 points: Seems like P&H Chard is highly variable from bottle to bottle. It is always at least good, but I've had better. Wondering if getting the temp and O2 right on this makes a big difference. Overall, good balance of citrus and mineral. (325 views)
Tasted by RobertDwyer on 12/26/2012 & rated 91 points: I've had a tough time with CA Chardonnay *but* this one pleased with its clean, voluptuous lemony characteristics on the nose and palate. Had a feeling I'd like it thanks to positive impressions of their Pinots. Great producer. (663 views)
Tasted by What I'm Drinking Now on 12/8/2012 & rated 88 points: Patz & Hall makes clean Chardonnays that pair extraordinarily well with food and last night at Posto was no exception. The wine possessed muted pineapple and quince but finishes with red apple. Moderate acidity keeps his one really fresh on the palate but doesn't overwhelm. Cheers! (672 views)
Tasted by tomherer on 10/31/2012 & rated 87 points: Decent sipper, but simple, with caramel, baked apple and pear flavors, and some lemon oil around the edges. Little fizzy up front; finish is short and slightly acrid. Better than a sharp stick in the eye, but there are better AVA chards for the money in this vintage. Ramey comes to mind as a comparable price/production alternative.

For what it's worth, feels like P&H's Pinots have been significantly outperforming their Chardonnays for the past few years. (1085 views)
Tasted by The Vinsider on 5/15/2012 & rated 92 points: Consistent with previous notes. Drank for Jessica's birthday. (1369 views)
Tasted by DSaeedi on 2/22/2012 & rated 89 points: An Evening with Donald Patz of Patz & Hall (Lincoln Park Binnys Tasting Room): Nose reveals some lemon citrus and some apple, toast and malolactic flavors, a strong current of banana and some other tropical notes. Palate is a nice balance of rich and lean. Slightly noticeable alcohol and could use a little more acidity to balance. But still a very pleasing effort and a very attractive nose. (1447 views)
Tasted by Tamu1956 on 2/15/2012 & rated 91 points: A nice light nose, apple with hint of oak. Smooth tastes of apple, pear with a balance of acidity to make a nice layered chardonnay. Paired with a range of seafood and the wine really opened up with air and as it warmed in the glass. (1172 views)
Tasted by The Vinsider on 1/4/2012 & rated 92 points: Drank alongside artisan cheese and spicy crab cakes on New Year's Eve with friends. This wine got praise from "I generally like Burgundy whites" crowd. Lovely acid, not too much oak, very fresh bright fruit, with layers of apple, citrus and stone fruit. (1296 views)
Tasted by wineglas on 10/9/2011 & rated 91 points: Patz & Hall Wines (Bloomington, MN): A little better than the 08 with carmel, pinneapple, minerals and sour apples. A nicely balance wine and the oak is integrated into the wine. Medium finish. (1440 views)
Tasted by wino_tim on 7/22/2011 & rated 87 points: Subtle and elegantly styled with pear, flower, caramel nut, melon and tarragon flavors. Medium bodied and round on the palate, and while not particularly concentrated this is notably fresh, with good acidity and cut. (1366 views)
Tasted by ed-d on 11/12/2010 & rated 93 points: Clear gold color. Pretty deep smoke & lemon on the nose. Deeply rich entry with vibrant apple & pear flavors that flow into dusty acids. This is lovely. (1567 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
