Tasted by ikkaariainen on 7/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Definitely recommend with the caveat that any remaining holdings need to be drunk up sooner rather then later - definitely time to drink not hold. Still drinking extremely well, likely slightly past peak and we were amazed at how well this wine is holding up. Had at our wine club tasting that Kim & I hosted 7/19/22 in Hickory NC at restaurant BOCA in a flight with 3 other '97 CA cabernet dominant wines. We recently obtained this bottle as part of a much larger cellar contents purchase. Reddish purple, peripheral bricking present, fully integrated, soft mouth feel, medium+ bodied, oak & tannins essentially undetectable with a good fruit core present and surprisingly minimal acidity. The famed Rutherford "dust" is more pronounced both on nose and palate in this bottle then I have previously come across. Lovely medium length lingering aftertaste. Nose soft, dark and quite complex with "dust", smoke, kirsch, cedar and lilac. Flavor profile up front of classic Napa cab dark stone fruit and cassis followed by more dominant red fruit, black pepper, licorice and an interesting mix of what I can best describe as yeasty kitchen spices with a very "dusty" and smokey finish. A quintessential well made / well aged Napa cabernet that is still holding up just amazingly well. This is a VERY good QPR wine. (290 views)
Tasted by BeyondTheFog on 12/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Drinking very nicely right now; the fruit has darkened somewhat but is still reasonably full. Nice dusty woodsy notes have appeared. Good acidity remains. Very much what one would expect in a well aged cab. (469 views)
Tasted by mike1234 on 6/9/2020 & rated 89 points: Opaque purple color, ripe berries on the nose, could acidity and tannin level, some fruit on the finish. A pleasing wine. (548 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 7/16/2019 flawed bottle: Over the hill... (707 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 11/16/2014 & rated 90 points: Really pretty good, 2 hour decant, still has fruit, med bodied at this point, with good oak integration, med+ finish.
Overall a nice reflection of that vintage.

Tasted by jctaylor on 9/21/2007 & rated 87 points: Decent fruit flavors, but somewhat austere lacking the plush Rutherford style I like. I thought it had passed its prime. (4186 views)
Tasted by fmoehl@yahoo.com on 9/26/2006: Not sure if wine was still good, may have been over it's peak (4398 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
