| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by M.Batard on 11/2/2021 & rated 91 points: I think this is growing on me as I get down to last few bottles…Intense peach nectar over chalk (rather than slate) on the palate here, standing out more as the wine gets air. Tasting now on the second night, both times with/after homemade mild chicken curry; it could stand up to more heat if I’d had it. Would score it higher were it not for an impression of less precision than with my favorites from Germany. (317 views) | | Tasted by M.Batard on 1/22/2021 & rated 90 points: Five years since my last note, but this was consistent with those earlier bottles. Other than a deeper hue, more yellow than straw, I didn’t find much different. Possibly more harmonious, but not more complex with age. Paired with lamb Goan curry and checken biryani from Tandoori Mela. Perhaps I will take Riesling-fan’s advice and pair with foie gras... (369 views) | | Tasted by Rieslingfan on 5/12/2019: Another 18 months in bottle, and this is still a monster. It has the richness and sweetness of Beerenauslese, but without botrytis, so that explains the Spatlese labeling. But don't be fooled, this is not a dinner wine. Have it after a meal, maybe with cheese. Or have it with the foie gras course. This is a beast with decades of life ahead of it. (807 views) | | Tasted by Rieslingfan on 11/26/2017: I drank a bottle of this a year ago, and thought “that’s a big Auslese labeled as Spätlese.” I was wrong. That’s a Beerenauslese labeled as Spätlese. Holy cow it’s a big wine. It’s dessert rich, and has more power than three bottles of Spätlese in one. Pretty much the poster child, not for pradikat creep, but pradikat launch! (907 views) | | Tasted by Rieslingfan on 12/4/2016: Want a rich spatlese that does not apologize for slapping you upside the head and shouting "wake up!!!" when you drink it? Well here it is. This is a rush of ripe tropical fruit with tons of body and extract to burn. It's really more of a big auslese, but so what. Wham! Drink it now for total fun factor, or let it age, as it's got tons of time to go. (999 views) | | Tasted by M.Batard on 10/1/2014 & rated 90 points: Still the same straw color. Peach and honey notes. Quite on the sweet end of Spatlese. Bright acidity. Long finish. Paired with lamb curry, paneer. Stood up to the spice easily. Suffered in comparison with the same vineyard's 2001 Hochgewächs. [Note: this wine coming into its own three hours later, as I savor the last glass after clearing up after the tasting dinner. So stay tuned as this one ages.] (615 views) | | Tasted by M.Batard on 11/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Consistent with last year's note. Good pairing with both Massaman curry and the (spicy) wild boar at Origin. (623 views) | | Tasted by M.Batard on 11/28/2012 & rated 90 points: Pale straw color. Lemons, honey, and white flowers. Delightful with pork vindaloo (723 views) | | Tasted by AMC Eagle on 4/15/2012 & rated 92 points: Like a faint looking apple juice in colour. Lovely concentrated smell of peaches, pears, and spicy green apples accompanied by the funky minerality of the wine. Sour green apples, some peaches, and a slight hint of honey on the palate. A touch too sweet me thinks. Light bodied with a pretty good finish. This is my first German riesling, and will be buying more so I may expand my palate. (864 views) |

#2014 Vintage Notes: 2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise 2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator "My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)NaheAn der Nahe erwarten den Besucher sanftes Grün, romantische Flusstäler und dramatische Felsformationen. Interactive map on weinlagen.info |
