| ||Tasted by Anonymous on 4/27/2015: Very much drinkable, albeit reflecting its age--crispness has receded, replaced by mellower texture and a bit of sweetness. (114 views)|
| ||Tasted by John Nezlek on 11/14/2014 & rated 88 points: Given the chorus of 90s for this bottle, and my general love of Vouvray and Chenin Blanc, I was a bit disappointed in this bottle. Not quite as rich as I hoped. There did not seem to be enough sweetness to offset the other flavors. Still a very good/excellent bottle, but just a little short of what I expected. Admittedly, the style is sec, so perhaps my expectations were not accurate/realistic. (494 views)|
| ||Tasted by vanpe003 on 12/30/2013 & rated 92 points: My score may be a point or two high, but I'm somewhat blown away by this wine as it appears to be in its perfect drinking window. Excellent balance between chenin blanc fruit and acidity, the latter of which has largely folded into the body of this wine. A hint of resin on the finish keeps it long. 90-91 points objectively. 92-93 points for pure enjoyment. (1639 views)|
| ||Tasted by Anonymous on 2/3/2013 & rated 90 points: Rich and well delineated. A real find for the money. (2614 views)|
| ||Tasted by vanpe003 on 10/22/2012 & rated 91 points: Pop/pour. Light straw in color. On the nose, honey, pears and and a bit of soapy florals. On the palate, great fruit depth kept lively by nicely balanced acidity. While this has smoothed out, it is showing no signs of decline, and in fact may continue to improve over the next couple of years. (2915 views)|
| ||Tasted by Sijan on 8/27/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nice - tropical nose suggests sweetness, but this is a dry wine on the palate. Good minerality with a nice strong acidity. Very good food wine. (2878 views)|
| ||Tasted by garambler on 7/14/2012 & rated 91 points: I opened this at our 7/14/12 white wine tasting. It had a clean, intense and fragrant bouquet of apple, pear, pineapple, lime and mineral aromas. The palate was crisp, dry and sharp with flavors of apple, pear, pineapple, lime and chalky minerals...sorry this was my last bottle! (2764 views)|
| ||Tasted by andtheodor on 6/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Serious nose showing pineapple, mango(!), honey, apricot. Concentrated palate that is thick but bright and fresh at the same time; limey acidity on top of a malic, slatey feel makes this intense and refreshing on a really hot day. (2231 views)|
| ||Tasted by garambler on 6/22/2012 & rated 91 points: This had a clean and intense bouquet of apple, pineapple, lime and mineral aromas. The palate was crisp, dry and sharp with flavors of apple, melon, lime, pineapple and chalky minerals. (1564 views)|
| ||Tasted by mmurry on 5/31/2012 & rated 90 points: Tasted at room temperature after glass decanting for 2 hours. Crushed seashells and apple on the nose, along with some citrus, pear, and floral notes. Biting acidity on the palate, with lots of stone and citrus. There's some apple and pear on the mid-palate, and a touch of honeycomb on the finish. (2124 views)|
| ||Tasted by sidenote on 11/3/2011 & rated 86 points: Solid - mineral laced stone fruit, classic Vouvray, and a good bargain. Nothing super special, but great for every day quaffing. (2679 views)|
| ||Tasted by chifred on 9/29/2011 & rated 91 points: Crisp. Nose of tropical fruit and stone/gravel. Biting acidity/citrus on the attack which transitions to a more mellow chenin blank hint of sweetness (for a second) until the stony/acid finish develops. A bit of fizz almost on the nose. Wakes you up. Tasted at room temperature, just opened. (2630 views)|
| ||Tasted by cse on 8/14/2011 & rated 92 points: a gorgeous wine--one of the best dry vouvray's i've ever tried. talc and honeysuckle on the nose, crystaline and explosive on the palate--mint, honey, apple. long, echoing finish. much better on day 2 than day 1. i'm guessing this has at least 5-10 years ahead of it. | ||Tasted by garambler on 7/29/2011 & rated 92 points: I had this after work on 7/29/11. It had a wonderful bouquet of apple, melon, lime, pineapple and mineral aromas. The palate was dry, crisp and sharp with flavors of apple, melon, lime, pineapple and chalky minerals. Terrific! 91+ (2669 views)|
| ||Tasted by LikeABC on 7/11/2011: won the best of tasting vs five other Chenin (2 domestic and 3 Vourary).|
should have bought a case of this:( (2874 views)
| ||Tasted by chifred on 7/1/2011: Room temperature open and pour. Honey, spritz and apple on the nose. Lots of acid on first sip. Really limits taste of fruit although you can tell it is back there. Some hint of sweetness trying to balance out the acid. Long sharp finish. Interesting. Will see how it develops today and maybe put it on ice. (2665 views)|
| ||Tasted by mikeaukenbals on 6/26/2011 & rated 91 points: should have bought more (2739 views)|
| ||Tasted by chifred on 5/20/2011 & rated 90 points: Light clear yellow. Moderate nose (fridge temp) with mineral, flower and lemon-lime - very clean. Very dry, crisp and lemony on the palate, almost more s blanc than chenin blanc (but none of the grass or tropical fruits). None of the honey or other complex sweet/acid of other Vouvrays I have had. Mouth feel is light to moderate and there is a pleasant long finish. A great summer white for a hot afternoon or by the pool. (2804 views)|
| ||Tasted by mikeaukenbals on 5/11/2011 & rated 91 points: buy more if i get the chance (2948 views)|
| ||Tasted by vanpe003 on 4/22/2011 & rated 92 points: So, after opening a bunch of Garagiste wines on receipt a couple weeks ago, and being well, not overwhelmed, this one came in today, and "pop" went the cork.|
This is what I've been waiting for. A true Garagiste gem. I don't have a lot of experience with Chenin / Vouvray, but this is easily among the best I've had. Aromatic nose of pears, apples, and melon. If this saw any oak, it was very subtle.
On the palate, more of the same. JR refers to this as "dry", but for me it's at the sweet end of the dry scale, approaching "off dry". Has enough acidity to give at an edge, but not so much to suggest this needs to be put down for 5 years before it can be enjoyed. A slight dryness on the finish suggests this will be better in a few years, but all-in-all this is very approachable for current drinking.
Update: after 5 days in the fridge, this continues to go strong. Great wine, great QPR. (2975 views)

(AUGUSTINS Vouvray SILEX)
I had this wine last night and if you are a fan of Huet’s Clos du Bourg sec, I cannot recommend it enough.
From an old-vine parcel of pure silex-based Chenin Blanc in the far northerly sector of Vouvray, this is a property on the rise and the miniscule production makes the wine not only highly desirable but nearly impossible to find (except in Paris or a few local restaurants in Tours).
Over the last few months, I received several tips on this wine from my sommelier friends in Paris (“you better secure this - fast”) but I was not prepared for the mature level of winemaking nor the depth and complexity in this example. A true sec bottling (with very low RS), the 2008 Silex is among the very best dry wines produced in all of Vouvray in 2008. It has a wonderful and pure varietal sense aligned to a palate coating, mineral and lime infused back-end that rolls along for a full minute after the wine has left your lips.
As it gains air, the Silex sparkles and comes alive with energy as an electric cut and texture begin to emerge that are hallmarks of top Chenin. The wine is just as good or even better on the second night (which is quite remarkable).
A titillating effort from an unknown artist on the fast track...
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for exemplary price/value and opportunity to discover something special while it is still reasonably priced.
