Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 49 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 2/27/2015 & rated 88 points: Macerated blackberries, sweet mulling spices, currants, chocolate. Fairly sweet attack, but with very good acid and a nice, approachable spine of tannin. Quite nice, and great for the price. A bit hot on the (medium-short) finish. (485 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 1/18/2015 & rated 90 points: This drank very well the 1st night, rich and full bodied. (658 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 1/10/2015 & rated 89 points: Port Style Tasting (Minneapolis, MN): Surprisingly good, given the price point.
Brandy sweet but well balanced, with juicy berries and less spice than the 10 and 20 yr tawnies.
Me - 90, Wife - 88. (627 views)
Tasted by Amarone Man on 10/15/2014 & rated 88 points: Defintely drinking well, but needs more time. Suggest drinking over a few days. (1181 views)
Tasted by poste244 on 6/7/2014 & rated 88 points: Sans être exceptionnel, un bon LBV équilibré. Pas alcooleux ou écoeurement sucré. Un millésime "moyen" donc, dans le bon sens du terme. (1751 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 2/11/2014 & rated 89 points: A nose of dark fruits and sweet spice, dark black in color. A medium to full bodied LBV port, with blackberry jam, currant, black cherry, dark chocolate and spice on finish. Drinking good now, a good value. www.winelx.com (2262 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 2/1/2014 & rated 89 points: 4xx
This is an extremely drinkable LBV. It is nicely balanced and loaded with prune and raisin with just the right sweetness. I'll drink it regularly at the under $18 I got it for. (1935 views)
Tasted by xScottx on 1/17/2014: WSET Level 3; 1/13/2014-1/17/2014 (WSET School, London): A bit spirity on the nose.
Plums, jam, fig on the palate.
I always found the alcohol lacking integration on most LBVs, this included. (1023 views)
(2277 views)
Tasted by jaubine on 11/13/2013 & rated 83 points: Deep ruby color, heavy on the alcohol with a medium, dry heat finish full of cherry and plum; certainly not silky as others. Slight ammoniac nose, but full of raspberry. I'm on the fence about this one, and willing to give it another try, but doesn't stand up as well as I'd hoped. (2322 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 11/12/2013: Plum and other dark fruit. Palate is generous and smooth with a lovely finish. Very good port for the price. (1967 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 11/2/2013: Sweet Wine Tasting (Bin 75): Dark core with purple rim; blackberry, plum, cassis, peperoni like spiciness; medium plus viscosity, peppery, alcohol stands out a bit, sweet dark fruit, some schist; ok. (1361 views)
Tasted by ckilpatrick on 10/28/2013 & rated 86 points: This bottle was a bit off - lacked the fruit of the others. (1601 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 9/1/2013 & rated 86 points: On KLM long haul.
Dark red.
Porty, fruity red berry aromas in both nose and mouth.
Well balanced, great acids, very good fruit, perfect sugar level however a non-layered disposition. Some things remain yet to emerge from a few more years of cellaring. As a wine: Too simple for my taste buds to perform any kind of dance, but nevertheless a great companion to the "Cheezus" plate.
Did well on board. (1968 views)
Tasted by ckilpatrick on 7/18/2013 & rated 91 points: So good...liquid chocolate and berries. (2025 views)
Tasted by footloosiety on 6/15/2013 & rated 82 points: This was a decent LBV port (bottled in 2012). Nice deep ruby color, but a lot of alcohol on the nose & palate. One you got into it, was perfectly drinklable (and enjoyable). Just dont pull this one out expecting to impress on first taste. (2046 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 3/7/2013 & rated 90 points: A real bargain at the $18USD that I paid. Spicy raisin, walnut, and ripe berry aromas and flavors. Heads and shoulders above the typical ruby ports for very few extra dollars. (2914 views)
Tasted by Gestug on 2/9/2013 & rated 90 points: Not plumy tasting. A dark fruit, with complex palate finish (2872 views)
Tasted by Biggsy on 12/26/2012 & rated 87 points: Great power on the nose, the spicy black fruits leap from the glass. Plumper, fuller and spicier than the 07 Sandemans LBV alongside it with lovely intense black fruits, a delicate sweetness and a little hint of Christmas cake on the finish. (2566 views)
Tasted by Haggis on 12/25/2012 & rated 89 points: Not a blockbuster LVB, that's for sure, but went very nicely after Christmas dinner with some Cubans. For the price ($19 on closeout at Tamura's), this is a good decent QPR. (2516 views)
Tasted by spo on 12/21/2012 & rated 86 points: This wine was never 100% there for me. Sometimes it had a strong iodine/wood flavor, other times nice berries and chocolate. Different from sip to sip. Liked it most the first night. (2010 views)
Tasted by jonanator on 12/4/2012 & rated 88 points: Enjoyed this LBV. Good fruit character but I enjoyed the 2005 Taylor Fladgate LBV much more. (2198 views)
Tasted by socidelvino on 12/3/2012 & rated 87 points: Tasted onboard KLM

Eye: dark purple color. Nose: black fruit, licorice, spices, alcohol. Palate: very juicy, loads of fruit, not well balanced, needs more time maybe? (1982 views)
Tasted by yofog on 11/15/2012 & rated 91 points: Good tannic structure, firm, a little extra fruit seriousness and lower sweetness compared to the other LBVs on the table. I like it, and it will age, which is what I would recommend. (2262 views)
Tasted by Vintomas on 10/24/2012 & rated 87 points: Taylor’s Port (Stockholm): Deep dark red colour. In the nose dark berries, quite spicy, chocolate, good aroma intensity. Rather sweet on the palate, quite spicy, alcoholic, dark berries, medium concentration, good acidity.
This wine was less aromatic than all the Vintage Ports (including the Quinta Ports) of the same tasting. (2081 views)
