Tasted by DickJ94507 on 11/14/2020 & rated 90 points: I just find these wines age so well -- such a testiment to Ridge's wine making. I have a couple more left of these old ridge zin's and just enjoy every mouth full. (868 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 7/10/2017 & rated 90 points: Auction purchase. Bit of a dry cork. Fun bottle. Browning. Smoky chocolate, more traditional zin flavors in the background. Real depth here. (1536 views)
Tasted by drmarclevine on 5/26/2014 & rated 90 points: Another lovely bottle of aged Ridge Zin. This was all dark chocolate, red plums and menthol. Just starting to thin out a bit but still soft and plenty round enough. Got better with air over the course of two hours. Probably won't hold in this place for long so drink up. (2265 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 1/1/2014 & rated 90 points: The nicest old bottle of Ridge I have had over the past few years. It is fully mature at this point with hints of bitter sweet chocolate and cinnamon on the nose and palate. Just enough underlying fruit to keep it balanced. Long finish. Very Nice. (2457 views)
Tasted by ErikaandAmy on 2/9/2013 & rated 94 points: Took to wingfields. Very yummy! (2669 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 7/13/2011 & rated 90 points: Drink it now. (2772 views)
Tasted by bjschmitt on 3/14/2010 & rated 87 points: With Pork shoulder roast (with Pears and Leeks, garlic/herb pesto, and mustard sauce). Clear ruby, no longer opaque but still bright. Nice nose, a little earthy and some cedar, but not overly perfumed. Mature, with integrated soft tannins and still some fruit, but the characteristic Zin signature had mellowed. Rich enough yet to stand up to the pork. Nice medium length. Mature now, and probably over its prime, but still an old friend and gentleman, come visiting for this meal, not ostentatious but certainly welcome. (2787 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 7/31/2009 & rated 87 points: A field blend that has the advantage of avoiding the overripe flavors seen in many 2003 zin's, this wine still feels long in the tooth. Some fruit but kind of muted blues and hints of cherry, red berry and earth nose, just enough tannin and acid to keep it from dying. I would put this on a 6 month consume list. (2407 views)
Tasted by migliore on 7/23/2009 & rated 88 points: More earthy Zin. Had some blueberries in the beginning, not as much any more. I think this one might be a little over the hill, but still enjoyable. My rating doesn't incorporate value, which is low on this wine at $30. I would put it around $16-18. (2349 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 5/26/2009 & rated 89 points: Nice blend. (2293 views)
Tasted by agnorger on 5/9/2009 & rated 89 points: Really nice. lighter style than those jammy type zins. I taste a lot of wines and have to say this is one of the better zins I have tasted in quite a while. (2276 views)
Tasted by stufis on 5/1/2009 & rated 85 points: What a disappointment...over 3 days this did not add anything...ashy on the nose and palate, no "real Zin" nose to speak of, certainly no fruit that spoke "ZIN!"...or even "zin..." Where's that Draper Perfune TomHill talks about??? Is it just that American Osk???Oh, the horror...What a waste...time to nuke that vyd...I've half a mind to go up there and tell them just that...welll, it's only a half of my minds...luckily only one more to force down... (2265 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 11/10/2008 & rated 87 points: Spicy nose, a little too phenolic for my tastes, too much nail polish remover. Sort of a dark red but a hint of cloudiness, the wine is not a ballbreaker...it is more floral, some spicy tannin and really not a lot about fruit. Some red fruit that is underneath the other components. Dries up some on the finish. Okay, not great, good for pizza or leftovers but maybe a little too pricey. Should cost $20 or so, not $30. I am more glad every day that I have dropped most of my Ridge subscriptions. They are really not the same winery they were 5 or ten years ago. (2318 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 8/28/2008 & rated 91 points: Beautiful fruit, very harmonious, soft tannins. Lovely. (2256 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 5/25/2008 & rated 86 points: Alcohol, a bit of ashtray along with a berry top note in the nose. This seems just a tad overripe, with a bit of cooked berry fruit, some sour cherry and fairly well integrated tannin. Not the most pleasurable of Ridge Zins. No volatile acidity, but I think it approached VA with the fruit ripeness and fermentation properties. (2376 views)
Tasted by eastover on 12/23/2007: At home with a roast beef, Jill's doble stuffed potatos and chop salad - wine ok - last bottle of the vintage. (2596 views)
Tasted by eastover on 12/20/2007: Thursday night at home with pizza - the start of christmas vacation. Just fine - nothing special. (2612 views)
Tasted by eastover on 5/27/2007: Memorial Day BBQ - Mom and Dad and the Goldmans - mini tasting, Nervo, Lytton East and Buchignani. All the ladies preferred the Nervo, Lee and I the Lytton. (2717 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 5/11/2007 & rated 87 points: The wine had an offensive sulfur nose which blew off within a few minutes in the glass. Behnd that was typical Ridge zin fruit, a jazzy, just pressed red wine nose. There was also some oak in the nose. The color was red-purple but pretty clear, not opaque at all. Moderate tannins with a readily apparent acidity, the wine also had a cooked raspberry note with a finish of oak. This was a year when Ridge seemed to have cooked some of their zins and this is one of those that, to find fault, is a little cooked in the fruit (overripe to the point of being burned). The high alcohol supports a long hang time and risk of overripeness. (2680 views)
Tasted by eastover on 5/6/2007: Sunday night - BBQ ribs, baked potato and salad. Wine seemd a little "thin" - nothing special. But on this day Danny had a career game - 3 goals and 2 assists in his soccer match at Montville. He was everywhere all game long - only coming out briefly after goal #3. This game should do much for his confidence the rest of the season. (2765 views)
Tasted by TashNYC on 5/29/2006 & rated 91 points: Soft fruit, but lots of it, with some leather and tannins. It was delicious with Mac 'n cheese & hot dogs. Drink now. Ridge claims this is available only @ the winery. (3215 views)
Tasted by jwwinec on 1/27/2006 & rated 89 points: Lots of sweet dark fruit, hints of spices and leather. The palate is driven by rich, sweet fruit, with tannins barely noticable on the finish. Not over the top, this wine is easy to guzzle. (3268 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
