Community Tasting Notes (average 93.5 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jsmorris707 on 1/20/2024 & rated 94 points: Flavor profile similar to prior note after SO for 1 hour, with the exception that there is a little tartness on the finish (bottle variation?); still delicious, drink (255 views)
Tasted by Wamrod on 12/25/2023 & rated 94 points: Cellared. Absolutely fantastic bottle that is drinking really beautifully right now - put this on your must-try list. Rich golden to the eye. Lush tropical aromatics on the nose that mix citrus and orchard notes. The expectation of fruity sweetness is instead met on the palate by very balanced flavors, with a creamy richness to the fruit and acid. So intense was the first taste that it took a second and third to realize that this was the intent, not a flaw. (165 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 2/11/2023 & rated 97 points: Similar to prior note after SO for 1 hour, deep gold, creamy apple, pear, some citrus & honey; outstanding, ready to drink (761 views)
Tasted by lesz on 5/21/2022 & rated 94 points: loved it (740 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 8/28/2021 & rated 98 points: SO for 1 hour, deep gold, creamy apple, pear, some citrus & honey; outstanding and possibly the finest white Bordeaux I have ever had, ready to drink (1423 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 10/24/2017 & rated 92 points: A similar pineapple and white pepper note cf the 2005, but this has a distinctly cheesy note - almost Comte-like. Is it the bottle? With air, a little something green-fruited, almost kiwi like. So saline on the palate. Appetizing. Difficult to tell whether this is still pulling itself together and dusting itself off. (3515 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 11/5/2015 & rated 94 points: We had a serious adventure last night. We had read about and decided to visit a French “private kitchen” (Cafe F39) run by a Hong Kong Chinese couple who lived in France for 30 years and returned to their home village in the countryside. The third floor of their village house is dedicated to serving a small number (no more than 12) diners. Two days advanced booking and the Chef will prepare pretty much any French dish you want. Fine French food in the countryside of Hong Kong…does it get any better!?

A blend of 51% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Semillon and 16% Sauvignon Gris. Light golden yellow on the eye is alluring. Aromas of tropical fruits, oak, vanilla and spice...and everything very nice. Round and toasty creamy vanilla in the mouth. Luscious, full-mouth, yet sophisticated, bombshell. Elegant and silky finish. A truly stunning wine!!!

We visited Chateau Pape Clement several years ago. An awesome Chateau, well-organised and pleasant tour and, well, top-shelf wines. If you are in the neighbourhood, you would do yourself a disservice not to pop in! (4987 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 10/15/2015 & rated 94 points: A blend of 51% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Semillon and 16% Sauvignon Gris. Light golden yellow on the eye is alluring. Aromas of tropical fruits, oak, vanilla and spice...very nice. Round and creamy in the mouth and full-bodied. Elegant and silky finish. Arguably, the reds often rue the day among our friends, the WOTN. Difficult QPR, but the Q definitely present! (4763 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/17/2014 & rated 94 points: Sweet, rich, fat, juicy and packed with fresh, ripe, citrus, grapefruit, vanilla bean, stone and candied lemon peel, the wine is concentrated, vibrant and lively and a lot of pep and energy. (6264 views)
Tasted by fhirsch on 1/1/2014 & rated 93 points: a somewhat reticent nose of wet rocks, smoke, exotic fruits, wax, gooseberries, and stone fruits emerges from the glass; there is tremendous persistence and glycerin on the palate, with combination of minerally tension, a strong savoury, spicy element, and explosively juicy, honeyed fruit that make this a joy to drink despite its young age. (5674 views)
Tasted by Stadshagen Conoisseur on 9/14/2013 & rated 94 points: Very nice bordeaux. Deep taste of apricot, oak barrel, herbs and citrus. Long aftertaste of sweet bitterness and oak. Still very young so needs decanting and will evolve much further. (4435 views)
Tasted by DonalOB on 2/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Grande Bordeaux Tasting, 2010 (Grand Hyatt Hong Kong): Apparently '10 is better than '09 - someone should tell RP.
Rich smokey nose with some gooseberry but not full-on cat-pee. Plenty of fruit so needs time to integrate with the oak. (4538 views)
Tasted by lmberto on 2/27/2013 & rated 95 points: Wine Advocate (2013): A blend of 51% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Semillon and the rest Sauvignon Gris, this wine has staggering aromatics of orange blossom, lemon custard, pineapple and mango. Exotic, rich and full-bodied, it should drink nicely for at least 10 -15 years or more. (790 views)
Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 2/23/2013: A very nice Blanc that loaded with peaches, lemon custard as well as pineapple like richness. Pack a lot of power supporting with solid structure. Quite approachable due to its richness and sweetness but somewhat disjointed at the back resulting in slightly shorter finished than we expect. This should be able to come around in another 5yrs time. (4080 views)
Tasted by curtr on 2/12/2013: Subtle grapefruit, very deep, balanced, very good acidity. (670 views)
Tasted by Vmaster007 on 1/26/2013 & rated 88 points: bel équilibre et bonne fraîcheur, minéral, pas mal du tout (2434 views)
Tasted by lumpyelbow on 1/25/2013: Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2010 (Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, ON): Near perfect? Extreme persistence with an elongated finish. Would purchase. (3362 views)
Tasted by SoundinBetween on 1/23/2013 & rated 94 points: UGCB tasting in chicago, absolutely delicious soft flavor of peach on the mid-palate.. would love to try it at a lower temp. (1779 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 1/23/2013 & rated 92 points: 2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: There is a toasty quality on the nose that strikes right away. That is backed up by tones of pears, marshmallows, white fruits an some citrus tones as well.

Taste: Medium bodied with very noticeable medium/high acidity. The structure is fairly imposing along with tones of toast, white fruits, marshmallow, and citrus.

Overall: This does need some time to come into harmony. There is good balance to it and though there is oak there, it doesn't seem to dominate the other fruit. (3172 views)
Tasted by yofog on 1/22/2013 & rated 89 points: A big, overripe wine with lots of perfume and an off note...Kissack's "musky" is probably what I'm referring to but I'm not sure what to call it. Not an exciting wine, for my palate. (1668 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 1/21/2013 & rated 92 points: Very pretty nose – a mix of mineral funk and tropical, dewy fruits. Feels alcoholic. Very good wine, but doesn’t touch the 2007 and the extraordinary lift of that vintage. 92-93 (1734 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/18/2013 & rated 94 points: 2010 Bordeaux at 2012 Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel, San Francisco, California): Light lemon yellow color; appealing, light menthol, smoke, tart peach nose; tasty, rich but poised, lightly oily textured, ripe pear, tart peach mineral palate; medium-plus finish (3017 views)
Tasted by MattTM on 1/18/2013: Union des Grands Crus 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel - San Francisco): Nice nose showing tons of tart candied lemon and charred oak, along with some papaya. Quite round and rich on the palate, showing plenty of fresh lemon juice and papaya, along with a bit of heat poking through. Lots of acidity and a long length finish. Lots of lemon character through this, although the heat on the palate is a touch distracting. There are some nice underlying components here but this needs some time to come together. Very good- (2543 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 11/12/2012 & rated 95 points: Pale gold colour; Very rich and complex lemon spectrum fruits on the nose. Wonderful savouriness; exceptional palate. Weighty, defined. Pure, excellent wine. Very long - an outstanding showing today. 94-96+ (1941 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/30/2012 & rated 94 points: UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2010 (Brussels): Enormously luxurious bouquet with good fruits and exclusive well dosed toasted oak and some minerals. The same impressions on the palate. A very tempting and luxurious wine already. (2242 views)

Bordeaux Wine Guide

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
