Tasted by EJDALEwine on 9/24/2020: beautiful pinot. Needed about 30 minutes and then lasted well with a steak and into after dinner. Well made. (818 views)
Tasted by King of all vines on 11/28/2019 & rated 93 points: Incredible Pinot Noir. (1023 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 11/24/2019 & rated 91 points: Super wine. With superb fish dish. We first had a Peter Michael 2005, belle Cote, which was very good. None of other people wanted red wine so we had a glass ourselves. Super Pinot with age showing that the taste profile really has developed and matured. Worth the cellaring. Great fruit, great finish. (982 views)
Tasted by floating_cellar on 8/14/2016 & rated 92 points: Decanted 1hr. Excellent Pinot it a sweet spot right now. Great bright red fruits with that cherry cola hint. Medium finish. (2317 views)
Tasted by westcoastwannabe on 4/11/2015 & rated 91 points: A nice medium-bodied pinot with layers of dark fruit, which yield nice depth and an extended, smooth finish. I initially thought I wouldn't like this as the fruit is not as bright as Russian River fruit (my favorite pinot style), but I very much liked this pinot. Great partner for our salmon dinner. (3080 views)
Tasted by SactoWino on 4/22/2014 & rated 93 points: Layers of dark berries, mineral and floral notes. Really enjoyable Pinot that seems to be drinking in its prime. Silky mouthfeel and nice lingering finish. (3496 views)
Tasted by Jmac56 on 3/29/2014 & rated 93 points: Beautiful cherry nose, jammy and well balanced- excellent wine. (3389 views)
Tasted by AMM3RD on 10/21/2013 & rated 92 points: Better than my last bottle. Served at a dinner party was enjoyed by all, but i think this needs a year or two to mellow. Dark pinot fruit that is ripe on the palate. Some nice spice and soft tannin to keep it interesting. (3824 views)
Tasted by jpferna on 10/19/2013 & rated 90 points: One of my favorites. Fresh berries over the palate and moderate tannins make for a delightful pour. (2832 views)
Tasted by AMM3RD on 8/2/2013: This is tasty stuff, but way too young in my opinion. Dark fruits for days, just too primary. (2416 views)
Tasted by Castle Peak on 7/20/2013 & rated 93 points: Really tasty. Layers of crushed ripe strawberries, thanksgiving spice, cedar and buttery pie crust. Flavorful, yet elegant. (1702 views)
Tasted by bzell on 3/18/2013 & rated 92 points: Started with 6 half way through and I am still impressed with this wine. Good deep aromas multiple layers of fruit and spice on the palate, great mouth feel and a very long finish. At $40 this wine is a good value for the high quality of this. (2026 views)
Tasted by beaunehead on 1/3/2013 & rated 93 points: Young, but jam packed with black cherry aromas and flavors, with massively ripe tannins and a long supple finish of black cherry liqueur, spice and creamy vanillins. As delicious as it is now, another year or two will do wonders. (1944 views)
Tasted by Castle Peak on 12/8/2012 & rated 93 points: Rich, complex and elegant. Mouth filling flavors and textures of strawberries, ripe cherries, nutmeg, dry earth and cedar. Soft tannins are nicely balanced and lead to a near perfect finish. Interesting after tasting you look at the wine in the glass and expect a dense red color. Instead the wine appears on the lighter bright red side of things. This wine packs a punch. Picked up 2 bottles this afternoon at the Safeway in Truckee for $35. One of the better QPR deals of the year. (1938 views)
Tasted by vancouvermatt on 10/27/2012 & rated 94 points: Spectacular blockbuster. Pop and pour and it's ready to go. Need to find more. (2058 views)
Tasted by bzell on 10/17/2012 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured we should have decanted and waited a while how ever it is still a great wine. A thick wine with a great color and really long legs. My first impression on the nose was of cola and my first taste were of heat but that left after 15 minutes and on the palate were tastes of cherry, cola, and pepper with a very long finish. A really good wine, great fruit and not a ridiculous price. (1927 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/4/2012 & rated 90 points: West of West Wine Festival; 8/4/2012-8/5/2012 (Occidental Center for the Arts, Occidental, California): Medium cherry red color with pale meniscus; focused, raspberry, sandalwood nose; ripe cherry, raspberry, vanilla palate; medium-plus finish (1800 views)
Tasted by vancouvermatt on 7/23/2012 & rated 94 points: Terrific now, probably even better in 6-12 months. Buy, buy, buy. (2199 views)
Tasted by Manalikarma on 7/18/2012 & rated 87 points: Nose has hints of cherry, bark, mouthfeel is very smooth, light bodied, very enjoyable. (2069 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 6/28/2012 & rated 91 points: Honeymoon Wine Tasting; 6/25/2012-7/3/2012 (California - Napa & Sonoma Counties): Tasted at Winery. Light ruby red in color with some bricking; with fragrant oak, earth, and ripe red fruit aromas. The mild tannins were very smooth and lead into a moderate length finish. A tasty modern wine. Drink now. (4270 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 8/21/2011 & rated 93 points: Family Winemakers Tasting. lovely nose of dark cherry fruit, better nose than its two peers I tasted, more of the same on the palate, rich, touch of spice, smoke, and game, medium body, and medium/long finish. (1102 views)

2009 Hartford / Hartford Court Pinot Noir Land's Edge Vineyards

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: Complex aromas of cocoa powder, black cherries and black raspberries are balanced with crushed quartz and dried rose petal nuances. The layered flavors of perfectly ripe, dark berries and dried flowers transition to a silky elegant and lingering finish of coffee and minerals.

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
