Tasted by A&C on 4/18/2024 & rated 95 points: This was smooth. The fruit is subsiding. I would say it is time to start drinking up. In fairness, we drank 10 bottles of wine among 13 of us before we got to this wine, so admittedly, my memory is a bit hazy. That, and all of the other wines were from the 1990s, so it was a bit out of place. That said, what I do remember is a smooth, beautiful wine, that is entering its final 10 years of life. But don't hold me to it :) (116 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 2/24/2024 & rated 94 points: 14.8% abv. A blend of Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Dense and chewy. Mildy elevated acidity but not overly so. (504 views)
Tasted by Fullhouse on 1/23/2024 & rated 96 points: Wine was a delight. Was decanted using an aerated shower funnel which helped the wine to open up. Nose, mouthfeel, and long lasting taste were all there. Should have bought more. (612 views)
Tasted by sdr on 12/9/2023 & rated 91 points: Not as blowsy as some and there’s a good level of ripe mixed friut, adequate acidity and tannins. It doesn’t add up to all that much but it’s relatively easy to drink. (768 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 8/14/2023 & rated 94 points: Dense rich and vivid California cabernwt from Pritchard Hill. This shows a large scaled blueberry, cassis and blackberry frame with strong underrlying mineral and tobacco notes. A large, but reasonably balanced wine. Served a bit too warm ( near room temp) and suffered showing ABV too much, but overall remains a strong wine from this vintage.

Consumed at The Woods in Mackinac Island where we had our first bottle 10 years ago. (923 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 10/8/2022 & rated 96 points: Double decanted for 2 hrs, deep ruby with no brick, black cherries, med. tannins, long finish; outstanding, drink or hold (1760 views)
Tasted by Spookey on 1/4/2022: This went up against a 2006 Grange and 2009 Ch Margaux. Served with A5 from grill master Chaz. All the wines were spectacular. The 09 Ovid has plenty of life left but is ready now. Slow ox'd for 8 hours. Dark purple color, dark berries, plum, anise, cocoa, full bodied. (2144 views)
Tasted by j@$0n p€++y on 12/3/2021 & rated 84 points: Awful! Out of mag. 2 hr decant. Overripe, lipton tea, walnut oil, dark fruits, stinky, barnyard, dried oak, unbalanced. Fell apart. Much better tasting when this was first released. Hoping this was an off bottle, otherwise, the rest gets sent to auction. (2102 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 10/10/2021 & rated 95 points: Agree with all the notes below. I suspect it holds up well against most main courses. (2211 views)
Tasted by A&C on 9/29/2021 & rated 98 points: This wine really sang last night. It was at the perfect moment to drink. It paired incredibly well with bone-in all-day smoked prime rib, twice baked smoked potatoes, smoked wild mushrooms, Brussel spourts and okra. My friend Ron made an amazing feast at his NYC apartment overlooking the World Trade Center. We dined on his outdoor patio, drank incredible wines, and had an over-the-top night. We started with about a pound of russian caviar, and an assortment of cheeses, and ended the night with the best strawberry shortcake I've ever had. I did not crawl back to my hotel in mid-town until the wee hours of the morning, which made teaching law school on Zoom the next morning a mandatory 4-cups-of-coffee morning. Anyway, this wine was so damn good. It was such a treat that matched one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. Thanks Ron!! (2075 views)

This is beautiful now ... Decent acidity - pleasant and drinking well. (248 views)
Tasted by AusTxJim on 12/5/2020 & rated 98 points: Right in the middle of the fairway. Still complex and lots of depth with minimal fruit upfront. Earthy with Bits of licorice and blackberry (2368 views)
Tasted by A&C on 11/5/2020 & rated 95 points: This is an incredible wine. Big. Bold. Balanced. Integrated. Amazing fruit. An inky monster of a wine. Paired incredibly well with slow-roasted lamb and wild mushrooms at a going away dinner for a friend of mine who is moving to Italy. I think it was the WOTN and we had a lot of big gun wines in the room last night. This is ready now, but still has lots of life left in it. Enjoy!! (1981 views)
Tasted by Tonythefish on 5/12/2020 & rated 96 points: Powerhouse wine that is excellent. Dark red color, light amount of sediment. 30-40 minute decant. Dark fruits, pencil lead and tar. medium tannins that eased over the 90 minutes we enjoyed. Finish lasted for about 45 seconds, and left floral hints of wet roses. Great bottle of wine (2197 views)
Tasted by Bcw1989 on 5/2/2020 & rated 94 points: Deep dark black only look to it. Nose was filled with lots different red ripe fruits. Full of tannins and even several hours after dinner, this vintage was still going strong. Finish was long and had hints of cedar and tobacco on the end. Wonderful wine by itself or with food. (2046 views)
Tasted by ddsolomon2000 on 4/12/2020 & rated 97 points: Wonderful wine. Still going strong. Rich, deep color, lots of tannin. Many more years to go. (2070 views)
Tasted by gteran76 on 4/1/2020 & rated 93 points: After 30 min decant it was closed on the nose and a bit tannic. Then it started to show all its finess and ended shinning. Medium+ body, long finish and long life ahead...

Tasted by Bcw1989 on 2/15/2020 & rated 94 points: Deep dark purple color. Long finish. Smell of nice ripe red fruits. Drank with dinner consisting of seafood and sushi. Very approachable. Wine still has many years in the bottle. (1720 views)
Tasted by EM_MB on 7/26/2019 & rated 94 points: 5 hour decant. Drink now! (2080 views)
Tasted by zazoo on 6/12/2019 & rated 95 points: Needs at least 1 hour in the Decaunter (2081 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 4/2/2019 & rated 96 points: This ripe and integrated Cabernet is stunning right now, with rich flavors, a silky mouthfeel, and impeccable balance for such a modern wine. Dark purple in color; full in body; nose of fresh blueberry, black licorice, cocoa powder, and warm rosemary. Luscious tastes of blackberry, plum, mocha, and freshly-ground pepper, with a silky and round finish. Blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. 14.8% alcohol. Decant at least an hour, since the air helps it blow off some of the sweetness. Drink in next few years. 96+. (3836 views)
Tasted by Siebs Cellar on 2/2/2019 & rated 96 points: Good bones and balanced, luscious fruit. (2160 views)
Tasted by Bcw1989 on 12/1/2018 & rated 94 points: Tight and wound up at first. Popped and poured-no decant. Would have benefited from a decant. After about 1 hour, really began to open up and show its personality. Truly a Bordeaux style wine, with a very old world feeling to it. Dark looking with lots of red fruits on the nose. Tannins were still present but not so gripping. Finish was long lasting and had hints of cherry and tobacco in it. Definitely and enjoyable wine. This vintage has many more years of cellaring. A Coravined bottle previously. (2247 views)
Tasted by Winegeek83 on 6/12/2018 & rated 96 points: What a beautiful wine this was! I had been waiting for the right occasion to open the 2009 OVID Napa Valley, as I had had this once before several years ago and it was the best bottle of wine I had ever had up to that point! I finally decided to host a 2009 vintage tasting and ended the night with this. What a complete wine this was. Complex, huge structure, and yet so refined. Tobacco, earth, dark fruit, cherry cola. It had shed a lot of the primary fruit since the first time I tasted it (I think between 2013-2014). I kept going back to it and just closing my eyes to smell it. It’s a pondering wine. Makes you appreciate life and the moment you’re in! Winner amongst the 4 of us against a lineup of 2009...

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
