The mouthfeel and the finish all on the nose. Raspberry and cherry infused stone. Rocks and fruit. Ethereal. It is impossible for this wine to get better. (1524 views) | | Tasted by SchlaepDog on 4/4/2021 & rated 93 points: This is why we age Brunello.
Savory nose of red fruit, leather, menthol, spices.
So silky on the palate with black cherry fruit accented nicely by Tuscan earth, tobacco, saddle leather, and minerals. Long finish of more cherry fruit and earth.
In a great spot right now at 15 years of age. Will likely hold for another few years. Drink now - 2024 (1588 views) | | Tasted by rjmp96 on 2/21/2021 & rated 92 points: Dried roses dried cherry, baked clay, a ton of eucalyptus and wild herbs, and meaty notes. Very interesting. Medium bodied, fresh finish and sandy tannins. The fruit is alive and sweet, with a sanguine underpinning to everything. The finish is a touch hot, but long and delicious. At peak and should stay here for the next few years. (1615 views) | | Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 2/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Dark garnet with no bricking. Dried red fruits (currant, raspberry), dusty cherry, cedar and iron shavings on the nose; dried red fruits on the palate. Medium bodied with great, food-friendly tannins and acidity. Falls off on the back of the palate and finish, but who cares - really in a great place at the moment, and went well with a terrific Parmesan-cream sauce. Delicious. (1757 views) | | Tasted by Eigerdog on 8/22/2020 & rated 93 points: Earthy nose with a hint of warm current. Balanced front to back, tannins are very soft, medium to full bodied. Red berry flavor with a hint of smoke and earth. (1753 views) | | Tasted by glennramsdell on 6/21/2020 & rated 92 points: Deep garnet red in the glass. Cedar and juniper on the nose. Soft tannins with some chewiness delighted us. Rounded with fresh acidity. (984 views) | | Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 4/17/2020 & rated 92 points: Ageing well, showing red fruit. In a good spot right now. Took a good hour to open up. Dried fruit, spice, fruit. Maintains grest structure. Me - 92, Wife - 93 (1037 views) | | Tasted by Zed57 on 12/8/2019 & rated 91 points: Flowery raspberry and cherry with an almost explosive long bracing iron finish. Great food wine. (1167 views) | | Tasted by ChateauDutremble on 10/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Couleur rouge pâle...tuilé. Au nez : vieux cuir, vieille barrique...notes fruitées de cerise sucrée...réglisse, chocolat noir. En bouche : riche et bien structuré avec des tannins légèrement présents. Sensation d'umami...avec un beau fruit chaud. Longue finale. Délicieux ! ...avec ou sans bouffe...le fruit domine. Prêt à boire...91+ (1889 views) | | Tasted by northerner on 2/3/2018 & rated 89 points: A medium to full-body, deep red wine. Good dark fruit flavor of dried fruit, cherry, tomato. Good acidity pairing this wine well with barbqued striploin steak. A food wine with a few years left. A little over-priced for the quality, compared to other Brunellos. (2404 views) | | Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 5/20/2016 & rated 88 points: Enjoyed over three nights. All the right notes on the nose: black cherry, dried cranberry, some oak; but thin and tannic. Edges rounded off over the next two days, but never achieved the body or finish we anticipated. (3531 views) | | Tasted by mzmijewski on 1/9/2015 & rated 88 points: Light in color, lacks finish, tannins strong (4649 views) | | Tasted by _water.into.wine_ on 1/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Drank with Kevin and the family on Xmas day 2014
Clear medium red with strong brown and orange hues. A nose of wood, barnyard and leather. To taste, the wine is very smooth with well integrated tannins. A medium body with a layered and complex palate of old oak and subtle red fruits.
Reminds me of a vintage Rioja. Very elegant verses some of the big Italians. All about the subtely rather than power. Highly acidic.
Showed serious fade both in colour and taste reminiscent of a 20-30 year old wine. I cannot believe this is only a 2006 as could easily pass as a 1996 or older. (4442 views) | | Tasted by drunken sommelier on 4/15/2014: Tasted blind as part of WSET Level 3 wine class. Light garnet in colour. Pronounced nose led by cedar, game, savoury and barnyard along with sour red cherry, stewed fruits, dill, mint, tobacco, nutmeg, medicinal and charred wood. High acidity and tannins. Medium plus body. Red and black cherry on the palate with earth, tomato, nutmeg, tobacco and cedar. Very good wine. (4656 views) | | Tasted by Bam_Man on 2/17/2013 & rated 95 points: Tasted this at a B-21 event this afternoon. By far my #1 Brunello at the tasting. Shows a gorgeous nose that is full of floral scents and hints of cherry and spice. Medium-to-full bodied and bursting with ripe, sweet cherry and raspberry flavor. Layered and complex, the spicy finish lingers on for minutes. Impeccably balanced, with beautifully integrated tannins. A magnificent Brunello that is ready to drink now. Excellent! | SangioveseSANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se"). Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]
Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytMontalcino Montalcino websiteBrunello di Montalcino Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino (Official DOCG website) |
