Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 121 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by TexasBob on 4/21/2024 & rated 97 points: Brown-orange with lots of sediment. Brown sugar and maple sugar on the nose with a faint mushroom note. Basalmic notes, sweet figs, sweet maple syrup, and mad honey. Amazing stuff. (69 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 4/12/2024 & rated 94 points: Still a beauty and can probably hold for quite some time in the bottle (years? Decades? Indefinitely?!) Not quite as layered and nuanced as I recall but still vibrant and delicious. Paired beautifully with a “milk and honey” cheesecake and a vanilla bean ice cream with salted caramel sauce. (89 views)
Tasted by anonymoose12345 on 1/14/2023 & rated 92 points: PnP from half bottle. What a color! Very dark brown like cold brew coffee in the glass. Translucent rim. On the nose, honey, burnt sugar, apricot, baking spice. On the palate, mouth filling viscosity and silkiness. Immediate sweetness, honey, brown sugar. Finish that lasts forever of candied orange, more caramelized sugar, and some acidity but enough to counter the cloying-ness of it all. Overall very complex with a uniquely voluptuous mouthfeel.

TL;DR delicious but can't drink more than a small glass. (1102 views)
Tasted by VinoGeeko on 12/14/2022 & rated 94 points: Ambrosia (984 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 6/23/2021 & rated 94 points: As brown as an '83 Rieussec, but at 20 years younger, far more alive. Caramelized apricots and oranges. Touches of hot coco with melted marshmallows. Nonetheless the sweetness was not too syrupy nor sappy. (2260 views)
Tasted by llink on 6/1/2021 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 3 hours. Poured out brown. Really good, sweet, deep caramel nose. The texture is unctuous with a ton of viscosity, sweet without being cloying. Nice surprise. (2248 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 2/17/2021 & rated 96 points: Extremely good. In the dark and raisin-y category of dessert wines. Huge complexity, great acidity. Will age well for several decades.

(Tasted at Angelini Osteria.) (2536 views)
Tasted by Mbad77 on 7/25/2020 & rated 92 points: In many ways very good but not outstanding. A touch sweet and little soft. Very dark and well enough developed . Usual deep brown / orange , orange rind, brown sugar caramel.
In many ways similar to the 2002 except not as good. The 02 very much a step up. Both enjoyable but a glass or so if this one is enough. (2261 views)
Tasted by cuffthis on 5/29/2020 flawed bottle: Heat damaged. Undrinkable.

Brought to friends to share at the end of a delicious, home cooked meal, this bottle was leaking and obviously heat damaged. I've had it in my refrigerated cellar since 2015 so I'm intrigued what may have happened. (2167 views)
Tasted by BigJake67 on 5/19/2020 & rated 95 points: Well worth the wait of cellaring. Outstanding! (1717 views)
Tasted by dkwins on 11/17/2019 & rated 94 points: Unique, enjoyable wine. Bronze color, apricot, honey and raisin notes. I enjoy the sweetness, but can see it being less pleasing to others. (1967 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 2/25/2019 & rated 89 points: Dark orange-rouge, full-bodied, apricots and citrus on the nose, unctuous smooth sweetness on the palate -- altogether excellent, but not quite outstanding in my view, because of dominant sugars. (2386 views)
Tasted by dhammer53 on 11/11/2018 & rated 93 points: Drank this with BestJetsFan at a tailgate party. Oh boy! Lip smacking delicious. Everyone loved this. Sorry I didn't take any notes. Wish I had another bottle. (2214 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 9/8/2018 & rated 94 points: I enjoyed this bottle a bit more than the last one yesterday, but still doesn't stack up to some of the other vintages. (2363 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 9/7/2018 & rated 93 points: Not as mind blowing a vintage as other Mr. K Noble Man I have had, but still a strong showing. (2180 views)
Tasted by Griffeyfan04 on 9/4/2018 & rated 89 points: I would drink this up. The sweetness is starting to dominate with not much acidity to help balance i tout. it still has tremendous flavor but tough to drink more than a glass. (2293 views)
Tasted by ajfret01 on 5/26/2018: Thick and viscous. Prominent apricot. Lush with a nice finish. (2170 views)
Tasted by Vinophiliac559 on 4/20/2018 & rated 93 points: 2008 Napa Cab Retrospective (Fresno): Dried apricot, caramelized brown sugar, a nice botrytis spice and pretty good balance. Great desert pairing and end to dinner. (2132 views)
Tasted by bigredPA on 3/4/2018 & rated 94 points: An exquisite dessert wine. Loads of caramel, brown sugar, fig, with orange & apricot notes; uber-smooth stuff here. (1833 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 1/13/2018: Brown in color. Sweet, apricots, fig, brown sugar. Fun and interesting desert wine. (1856 views)
Tasted by williamswhine on 1/12/2018 & rated 95 points: Hard to believe this stuff is chardonnay. Looked red/deep golden hue. Honey, apricot, caramel, nice balanced sweetness. Really enjoyed this unique dessert wine. (1827 views)
Tasted by Ecbatana on 12/29/2017 & rated 93 points: Color of cognac. A real delight. First botrytized chard and a dead ringer for a TBA for sure. Dried apricots, fig compote, honeysuckle. As others have noted, would have benefited with increased acidity to balance the ultra sweetness. Darn good stuff though (1764 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 7/16/2017 & rated 93 points: Apricot, honey, clove, caramel and a touch of coffee on the finish. As others have mentioned, a bit more acidity would have taken this to the very top rating, but a delicious offering none the less (2337 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 3/24/2017 & rated 91 points: Some great wines with the boy Scouts - Year 2 (BSA Fundraiser): Deeper copper orange in color. The nose is big with canned peaches, honey, and some sugary notes. On the palate, I find this pretty close to cloying without getting there. I would prefer a bit more acidity to wines of this texture. That is not to say this is not delicious. It is very tasty but a little goes a long way. A touch of oxidation perhaps on the finish but I am not sure how long this was opened. Always a treat to try though. (3398 views)
Tasted by Fugu Me on 2/12/2017: Acidity on the finish keeps this from being cloyingly sweet. Dark caramel color, with nice fruit. (2375 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
