Andis Wines

Producer website

Andis Wines was conceived in 2008 as a collaboration between Andy Friedlander and Janis Akuna, prominent Hawaii entrepreneurs, and veteran Amador County winemaker Mark McKenna. Inspired by the enormous potential of the highly diverse and spectacular vineyards of the Sierra Foothills, Andis began crafting supple, deeply fruited and concentrated wines with the 2008 vintage.

The Estate, acquired in 2009, provided a perfect setting for building a modern boutique winery with stunning views, exquisite architecture, and a state-of-the-art winemaking cellar. Located atop a gentle slope at 1,500 feet above sea level, the 25 acre vineyard was planted in 1978 to Zinfandel. In addition to the Estate, Andis sources grapes from 23 other vineyards scattered throughout Amador, El Dorado and Clarksburg. Our wine list includes both common and not-so-common varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Barbera, Grenache, Mourvedre, Primitivo, Petite Sirah and of course Zinfandel. All our fruit is hand sorted and fermented in small lots to promote complexity, diversity of style and varietal correctness. Using both traditional and innovative winemaking approaches, Andis Wines have quickly garnered 90+ point scores in Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, glowing reviews in print and online media, and placements in some of the finest restaurants in Northern California and Hawaii.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
